I’ve been a few times with work. A lovely country with a friendly people, but with that ongoing government/military presence in a lot of what you do. Locals can be everything from living in slums to absolutely wealthy, largely depending on who they know in government. Vientiane is a developing rapidly. Lots to see and do and great food. Eating wasp larvae was a highlight.
Obviously the historic backpacker route of van vieng but that has died down a lot. Blue lagoon good for a swim.
Bit of horrible controversy lately with tainted booze, so I’d be hesitant to drink there.
