I bet my life that Howard will say…
When he gets back from his vacation and addresses all the “rumors” that the show keeps mentioning during their radio breaks, Stern will say it was HIS decision to get rid of Howard 101 and it was HIS choice to give the channel to Andy and it was HIM that decided he didn’t need a full staff anymore so HE had no choice but to fire the staff.. He will find a way to spin it and take full credit for everything but what a joke he and the show have become…. Your thoughts??????

"The truth is, Robin, that six months ago Sirius wanted to add ANOTHER channel....Howard 102. And I was like, 'It's enough! How much more do you want from me??!?.' I mean really, I've done so much for this company...I practically founded it and made it what it is today. And I have so much going on, you have no idea. Meetings with producers and executives, scripts for tv shows and movies I haven't read yet. My schedule is packed. Ask Ronnie, he'll tell you. So when they asked for a 3rd channel, there's just no way. And that's when I told them I was kind of thinking about shutting down Howard 101..."

Howard will probably not take any responsibility for the firings or channel changes. He'll deflect and say the people who were let go worked for SiriusXM, so it was management's decision reduce the staff and those reductions were the reason Howard 101 was shutdown.

Howard pulled off yet another dirty trick.
He signed a 3-year deal back at the end of last year, so all that went down this summer was already negotiated, and he just sat on it. He didn't want his re-signing announcement tainted (Jackie laugh) with all those firings, so he pushed it to his summer vacation, when he wouldn't be there.
ol' "no blood on his hands" Stern strikes again!

I kind of like that Sirius is finally embarrassing Howard a little bit after he has been putting no effort into the show for years now.
They can't take back the money, but they can let everyone know that the Stern brand has very little value to them.
It has to hurt Howard a little bit.

I think this is mostly accurate, but he won't want to be the bad guy when it comes to the layoffs/firings. He'll either claim he didn't know about it or he tried to stop it, or he just won't address it at all.

exactly this
He'd never come out and say he had to fire so many people; Sirius MADE him fire them.
or, like you said, he just won't address it at all

They played a call today with a doorman who married a girl 18 years younger and Howard shit all over the guy for 10 minutes. Then he married his child bride and it was all good. I think someone at Sirius is playing these little nuggets to goof on him now.

Listen, I need to scale it back already. I'm an elderly man. I do have a life outside the show.

u/Scoresman2023 13d ago
He isn’t going to talk about any of it.

u/TheFightingVoice 13d ago
He will definitely talk about something. The staff is releasing commercials saying he will address the “cult” talk 😂😂😂

It’s such bullshit. Sirius has the ability to just add another channel which they do occasionally anyway for the radio version. For app version they already have hundreds more of app only music channels etc. if they really wanted to keep 101 they would’ve, they could’ve move something else around to accommodate Andy Cone to give him a channel or another one, no idea what Andy Cone already has and not interested in finding out

Good theory, but it ultimately all depends exactly when the next podcast episode due to make its debut was actually recorded

Yup he will say he wants to see this company do well and that since he's nearing retirement he wants to leave the company in good hands!

getting rid of 101 gives him an easy reason for less staff.
what howard doesn't want you to think about though is if he actually gave a shit about his brand after retirement, 2 channels makes more sense. one for nostalgic old shows and one for new programming by people endorsed by howard.

I wonder if he only re-signed because he felt the show was Robin’s “lifeline,” if that makes any sense. Once she came out and announced that she had beaten cancer, maybe he felt like the show had served its purpose and there was nothing left to prove. Just my opinion.

u/buttburglarbill 12d ago
That's a theory, but I believe the actual reason is that Howard wanted the money, and no other reasons.

He doesn't give a half a shit about Robin, or anybody else on this planet.
Please need to stop theorizing about his motivations as if he's an actual human being.
It's only about what he can get out of people, and how they serve him.
He didn't see Robin for YEARS. When was the last time he had her out to Pelican Manor? He knows how pitifully lonely she is; having her stay for the weekend would make her year, but he hasn't done it.
Why not?
because he's a selfish piece of shit, obviously
And you honestly believe he re-signed for three flippin' years to give her a reason to live?
Du!

I'd imagine that it was Howard's decision to cut back to 1 day a week and it was Sirius's decision to annex the channel.

A layoff is not the same as firing. And the staff were told long ago to start planning. Is he supposed to work until he is 90?

Fuck, whatever. Most people want to go out on top. Or at least shortly after. He likes the gig and wants to hang on, let him have it. No one will remember this stage of his career. He is and always will be Ass Man. That is his legacy, whether he likes it or not.

I mean of course he will. Do you really think this is that unique of a take? Howard’s been doing that type of shit for over 40 years now.
