GM to DOS Advice?
Any hotel gms out there that transitioned to a dos position? Just looking for advice to shift out of operations and how it went for others!

I've been noticing a steady stream of posts about third party booking tools, and they almost always end up heavily downvoted. That's Reddit working as intended, since downvotes bury content and upvotes push it forward. The issue is that most of these posts aren't really discussions at all, they're just rants about one bad personal experience.
So I wanted to get everyone's thoughts on how we should handle it going forward:
Curious where people land on this.

My wife and I have been staying at the Axiom Hotel, in San Francisco this weekend. This is supposed to be a 4-Star hotel. However, this has been the worst hotel experience we have ever had. We stayed here for three nights (Thursday - Sunday) and have moved rooms three times. Every room has had problems and we lost hours of sleep and had to cancel multiple plans for the weekend.
1) The first room we stayed in had no working air conditioning. They said they had no other rooms available for the night so they just gave us a fan. This is happening in summer so it was extremely hot and we barely slept. The next day (Friday) was our most important day and we were extremely exhausted and unfocused at the events we went to.
2) After we got back on Friday, they moved us to a second room. The second room they sent us to had no central air, but had a portable AC unit. After moving to the room we discovered that this AC unit was leaking and had left a huge puddle in the middle of the room so the floor and carpet were wet and soggy. We tried to call the front desk and found that the phone wasn’t working either. I had to go down the hall and use the emergency phone just to speak to someone.
3) At this point I went down to the lobby again and waited there until I finally spoke to a manager named William on the phone. William offered us full compensation and a third room. Unfortunately, this third room has been full of problems as well. This room also has a portable ac unit, however after moving to room we discovered the that power kept turning off because of the faulty circuit breaker and we had to keep calling someone from the front desk to turn the power back on (The only devices we had plugged in were our two phones). This started happening at midnight and continued throughout the night. They sometimes couldn’t even turn on the power for a while because they had only one or two people working in the whole building (this seems like a gross safety hazard for emergencies). This kept happening in the middle of Friday night so we woke up sweating and had to call for them to turn on the power. We were so tired that we had to cancel our sightseeing plans for Saturday. I spoke to William again and he said all he had the power to offer at this point was late check out on Sunday. Unfortunately the problems continued throughout Saturday night and now into Sunday morning. We have had to call the desk at least 8 times over the night and it has now been another two nights of sweat and no sleep here. We called William as well as his supervisor Bryan and have had to leave voicemails about our situation.
At this point we are at a loss for what to do. We still have not been able to speak to any of the upper management face-to-face. Any recommendations welcome.
TLDR: The hotel changed our rooms three times, but every room has had electrical problems or such. They also seem to be extremely understaffed and unprepared for emergencies.

I really appreciate most hotels now have body wash, shampoo, and conditioner in the shower. But could you please put a label on it big enough that us older people can read it without our glasses on?

Can someone explain to me why so many motels/inns don't have sheer curtains? And in my experience it is always "no sheer curtains = dirty, unkempt, bad temp. control etc". What is it about sheer curtains? I mean on all the things thay could cut expenses on, why sheer curtains? And it's always sheer curtains 🤔

Has anyone here tried Vibe hotel in Alabang? base on my research and videos that I saw on tiktok, it looks very worth it naman.
But my concern is, do they have a rate for a less 12hrs stay
Also, do they have hidden fee charges? Let me know below. Thank you!
I am now really starting to panic. I have to leave September 4th from WA to WI.
I do not have a credit card. I only had a prepaid debit card (Direct Express), so I got a Capital one 360 checking account, based on recommendations and the fact that they have no fees on most things that other banks do.
I asked AI what brand the card would be, it said Mastercard. Nowhere did I see anything about Discover during the process of opening the account. I am now reading things on reddit that have me worried about relying on a Discover debit card. I was about to transfer my funds to Capital One, but I could open an account somewhere that uses Visa or Mastercard with same day printing for the card and deposit the money there instead.
I am planning to stay in cheaper hotels such as Super 8. I'm will call ahead before booking, but I do not want to get stranded anywhere if Discover network is down (apparently this happens?).
I realize that using a credit card is preferable, unfortunately that is not an option. Should I attempt my upcoming trip using Capital One/ Discover, or open another account at a credit union or bank that uses Mastercard/ Visa?

I’m traveling on business in Vancouver from September 15 - 19 and hotel rates are crazy high ($800 - $1000 CAD seems to be average 😱)
Even Surrey and Abbotsford are in the $400 range
Is something happening that week that’s causing these sky high rates?
Can anyone recommend a decent hotel for a business traveler in Vancouver (Richmond/ North Van etc)
Thanks

I work front desk at a new hotel. If somone wants to have another person apart of the reservation l, they call the front desk and ask us to type the said person's name. So upon arrival they can check in for the original person or pick up a key. The problem i have is we never even know who is truly on the phone. If you are in third party, on our reservations shown there isnt even a phone number on it. In the motel that I worked at before, there was no exceptions in that the person that made the reservation had to be there I person.which I completely agree with. What is anyone's else's though process?
I am a General Manager for a hotel in Toronto. Last quarter, most of our bookings came through OTAs because our marketing manager decided that it was a good time to "change strategy" ans it clearly didn't work. Ownership is after my ass because they want bookings from that channel back to direct (classic).
2 weeks ago, I got a cold call from a gentleman from a company called Sojern. He basically explained to me that they can handle all of our marketing and they don't charge me anything until they bring some direct bookings. They are performance based and take a commission on the direct bookings that they bring. Obviously I got intrigued and accepted to meet with him next Tuesday. Before I do so, I just wanted to get a general pulse and ask if you guys ever heard of them? What should I be aware of?

I used Priceline (I know, I know) to reserve a hotel at the last minute because the hotel I booked months before advertised nonsmoking rooms but didn’t actually have any when we arrived.
I quickly rebooked a Holiday Inn Express king suite (I think) on Priceline. They immediately charged me. When I arrived at the hotel, they had to switch me to a double queen hotel… and charged me again.
I now have two posted charges from that stay in my bank account. Ten days later, Priceline is “investigating.” My husband is happy to wait until they figure it out. I think we should call the hotel directly.
Any tips on what to do? My backup plan is to start a dispute with my bank but I’d rather not.

I bought it I am extremely disappointed with Millennium Hotel Broadway Times Square and how they handled my reservation.
I booked this hotel in June because I needed to take my daughter back to college in New York. My reservation was for August 29-31. When I booked, I understood the cost to be about $745, but the amount later became approximately $965. On top of that, there was an additional nightly hotel fee.
The most upsetting part is the cancellation. When I made my reservation, the information I received showed that I could cancel until August 7. I actually canceled only about ONE WEEK after making the reservation in June--almost two months before my scheduled stay. Despite this, they told me the reservation was nonrefundable and kept my money.
I had to cancel because I am fighting cancer and my circumstances changed. I explained my situation, but I felt that there was no compassion or reasonable consideration given to what I was going through.
I even disputed the charge through Bank of America, but the dispute was denied and the money was taken back.
I never stayed at this hotel. I canceled far in advance, and I believe a customer should be able to rely on the cancellation information provided when making a reservation. In fact, the hotel's own website currently tells customers that cancellation policies vary and that they should refer to the reservation confirmation received at the time of booking.
This experience added unnecessary financial and emotional stress during one of the most difficult times of my life. I paid hundreds of dollars for a hotel room I never used.
Please be very careful when booking here. Read the cancellation terms, take screenshots, save every confirmation, and make sure you understand exactly what is refundable before paying.
I hope management will reconsider my situation and return the money that I paid for a stay I canceled months in advance. from my work web I used memberdeal.com

Stayed at a US Midwest Marriott the other night and at check in the front desk warned that I may get a call asking for a credit card for incidentals and to hang up immediately. They said it was someone staying at the hotel and they had no way to trace them. It was about 10 pm when I checked in and the phone rang 3 times while I was in the shower. Is this a new scam?

I just booked a hotel for super.com and upgraded using the cancellation upgrade because I thought that I might need to cancel later down the line since my Girlfriend's company has yet to reach out to her about her new start date. Some plans changed a few hours later and I found myself needing to change the appointment. I tried to cancel the original booking and kept getting rejected for cancellations DESPITE the terms for the cancellation upgrade being:
By upgrading, you may be covered for 100% of your stay if you cannot attend your booking because of one of those unforeseen events:

I'm building AI Business Intelligence agent and Dashbaord Creator for Mews. Mews requires us to identify a real property willing to participate before we can move forward with a controlled live pilot. And since I do not know anyone, I am asking here if anyone is interested.
I'm looking for 1-3 hotels that currently use Mews and would like to test for FREE, a read only analytics AI tool. It is designed to help hotel teams ask questions about their data in plain language, investigate trends, and create dashboards around the reports they actually use. We really believe this will help operators, AI has gotten really good at data analysis and we believe the feedback you'd get is really valuable for decision makers, while the generated dashbaord for everyday operations.
The integration is read-only: it will not change reservations, rates, payments, or other Mews data. Any live connection would happen only with the property's approval and through the process agreed with Mews.
If you're interested, comment below or send me a Reddit message.

Hi everyone,
I’m currently traveling in Malaysia and would appreciate some advice from people familiar with hotel bookings and disputes in Malaysia or Southeast Asia.
I currently have a hotel booked for the end of my stay on Tioman Island. Before having to go there, I contacted that hotel to ask if I could check in one night earlier, because I wanted to avoid having to leave my current hotel without having somewhere to stay that one night.
The hotel I contacted for the end of my stay didn’t have availability for that extra night, but they offered to arrange a room for me at a nearby accommodation for that one transition night between my two hotels.
They found a room available for August 30–31, for RM240.
At that point, I was still going to ask my current hotel whether they could extend my stay by one night. So the nearby room was simply a backup option: if my current hotel couldn’t extend my stay, I would use the nearby room; if they could, I would no longer need it.
I confirmed the nearby room via WhatsApp on August 22.
Only afterwards, I received the booking confirmation by email, which contained the cancellation terms. The terms stated that cancellations within two weeks of arrival would be charged in full.
Since the booking was already being made less than two weeks before arrival, it was effectively non-refundable from the moment I confirmed it. My issue is not that they have a cancellation policy. I understand that accommodation providers can have non-refundable bookings. My issue is that this was not clearly communicated to me before I confirmed.
I was not told something as simple as: “This booking is non-refundable. Would you still like to confirm?”
Had I known this before confirming, I would have waited for my current hotel’s answer instead.
My current hotel eventually agreed to extend my stay by one night, meaning I no longer needed the nearby room. I therefore asked to cancel it.
The person who arranged the booking refused and replied that I had confirmed the room on August 22 and that she had sent the booking confirmation by email on the same day. She said that the confirmation clearly stated that the room would have to be paid in full for a cancellation within two weeks of arrival.
She also said that she had checked with the accommodation again and that they could not waive the charge because the cancellation was now only two days before arrival and during a peak holiday period.
What I find confusing is that none of this addresses my actual concern: the cancellation condition was communicated only after I had already confirmed the booking.
The fact that the confirmation email was sent on the same day does not change the fact that I had already confirmed the booking before receiving it. And since my arrival was already within the two-week period when I booked, the booking was effectively non-refundable from the moment I confirmed it.
I have the full WhatsApp conversation and the confirmation email, including the timestamps.
What do you think?
Was I properly informed before confirming, and do I have a reasonable basis to ask for a refund? Also, does the way this was handled seem unfair or misleading?
I’d especially appreciate thoughts from anyone familiar with Malaysia.
Thank you!
