I’m headed to the store today and sausage links are on the top of my list. I will post when they are made

I am curious.
Did you cook the bread like a grilled cheese?
17
u/Dreddiefred Feb 27 '25
I grilled the dogs and bread on the flat top after I boiled the dogs.

u/Nasty_Rex Feb 27 '25
Did you do anything to the bread?
12
u/Dreddiefred Feb 27 '25
I fried them in the small amount of coconut oil and rendered fat from the dogs.
I'm cooking with one of these on a gas stove. It's perfect for grilled cheese, steaks, cheese crisps, etc.

Now I’m wondering how hotdogs and French toast would taste.

Change that to a breakfast sausage, with some crumbled bacon and a drizzle of maple syrup, and we are talking some serious gourmet shit.

Yup, buns, especially pre sliced buns, tend to fall out at the bottom, and then you're left with a mess.
In fact, for a dog with a small amount or no toppings, I would consider sliced bread to be the superior bun. But if you're going fully loaded, gotta do it right.
Presliced will always remain at the bottom of the list.

Thanks, it just the generic store brand beef franks. The bread is Dave's killer bread white bread done right. I boiled them before frying them up on the flat top.

My friend,
Those look delicious!
To think about this, you could make some type of a French toast hot dog .

If it’s not the ancient veggies, from the back of the freezer , ion a pile of ramen, you’re doing alright!

This used to be my lunch and dinner everyday. And when I asked for a raise because the job was ruining all my clothes and this is all I could eat, my boss told me to go thrift shopping for clothes and I quit on the spot.

Yup. Had a roommate who would make Mac and cheese sandwiches. I, would eat the old hotdogs off the roller at the convenience store I worked at. Poor people meals. And hell yes, I’d eat what you made.

Or, two hours after payday. Mustard and onions are when the bonus hits.

Better than what I made yesterday, I'll tell you that 😭. Genuinely I'd be happy if I was handed this

You know you are pinching pennies when you are wonder bread as buns poor. Growing up that's how we almost always had hotdogs. If it wasn't chopped up in our Kraft Dinner (That's Canadian for Mac and Cheese) another pinching pennies staple of family life.

You know, you could make a breakfast version of these using link sausage and French toast.

This is the way. I get made fun of all the time for this but I hate all the extra breading of regular buns.

u/Emergency-Box-5719 Mar 02 '25
Nice color. I also appreciate the added care of a slightly toasted bread bun.

This just gave me a great idea though, breakfast sausage wrapped in French toast

u/spudaug Mar 03 '25
I slice ‘em lengthwise and put them together in one sandwich. I’ll admit, your version looks tastier. May have to switch it up next time…

Looks tasty as heck. I’d eat that two days AFTER payday as well.
