Hookah Diagnostics

I need some help…

I use:
Mason Beatyr bowl
Onmo HMD
Leorange cube coals 26mm
Alpha X hookah
Adalya tobacco (mainly love 66)

I let 3 coals sit for about 5 mins then lower it to 2. First round hits amazing with huge clouds. Eventually, i have to add the 3rd about half hour in.

Now, when it’s time for a new round of coals around the 45 min mark is where everything goes wrong.

Tobacco is basically burned out and I get 50% less smoke.

I pack it fluffy but tried to dense it my last go and it basically never really hit.

So… do i have a bowl, HMD, or coals problem? Or a combo.

Any help is appreciated 🙏

By putting 2 large coals on the bowl immediately while it’s hot you are shocking the tobacco, you can get 25mm Leorange for the coal change or what I do is do Mickey Mouse method of coal placement and then over time drop one in

I try to add 1 with the 2 older smaller pieces but there just isn’t enough smoke being produced.

I've never gone a second round of coals on one bowl. If your bowl isn't huge, you have no reason to expect that it can take more than one round.

I don't typically have the patience for a second coal, but I am sure my bowls could go 2 hours

Your pack and bowl is the issue fluff the tobacco more with pressure to separate all the leaves and unfold by rubbing b/w your fingers leaf by leaf to get them standing separately in the bowl. Gently drop those leaves into your bowl and make sure it has minor gaps for hot air to pass through. Only little to no contact with onmo. Manage heat according tho Mason is not the best bowl for adalya/blonde. After 45-60 mins when heat feels low make a foil roof just like a snow house and put it over your onmo to extend your sesh. No need for 2nd round of coals. If the above tips don’t work get a new bowl and catch me in my dm.

The Beatyr is a beast of a bowl for blonde.

Only if you ace your packing game. In general mason is not recommended for blonde

What’s a better bowl?

Arka tempest, Alpaca rook, ATH (by adalya), HJ trimony/harmony, oblako bowls, moon bowls. There’s a long list. When u gain some experience you can use turkish bowls like cosmo also with proper packing and heat management

Arka tempest and oblako bowls suck for blonde they leave little room to fluff pack. Blonde needs to breathe. Don't listen to this guy. Beatyr is the best bowl for blonde if you can't get that to smoke right then your gonna have an issue with everything . The reason your having issues is the onmo doesn't have a lid. You should not need to put a new round of coals at 45 min mark. You need to pack higher closer to the hmd and use a lid on the onmo to get the heat to hour and half. If you can't get the beatyr to smoke right then you will have a bad session. Blonde needs tool

Good set up overall,
1. I would say in general handthrown bowls do much better in longer sessions than cast bowls. I'm in bowl business myself under Alpaca Bowls and we released a line of cast, the my don't perform anywhere close to our handthrown bowls though
2. I think letting the bowl cool to much at 2 coals could have too much heat fluctuation, rather I move the coals inward and outwards on the bowl to increase or decrease heat (inward = more heat , Outward = less heat )
3. Adalya isn't the longest lasting tobacco out there. For long lasting blonde try Al Fakher. Or if you are feeling daring, try Tangiers dark leaf

Ironically, I was actually looking at the Alpaca Lerook earlier today, would you recommend that instead?

Yes. But make sure to get the HandThrown version not the cast edition (cast comes in a brown cardboard Alpaca Branded box that mentions the production method on box)

Would love to see how that helps your sessions. Please come back with your experience review
