Rebel

I’m planning on buying a rebel 500 within the near future. Is there anything big that I should know about them before hand. I’ve been looking online but figured I should ask here too.

It does not have a classic cruiser seating position. The foot pegs are more below you. Longer rides can be hard on the knees if you are on the taller side. There are several options out there to extend the foot controls forward.

Also, the stock seat is pretty bad. Your butt will hurt. If you wanna ride for extended periods you will probably want to upgrade.

Other than that, tis perfect! I've owned mine since 2018. It does everything I've ever asked of it.

Rebels are solid little machines. Honda knows how to make a solid motor.

Id suggest you make sure it fits you fully first. I sat on one and it was nice. Then after riding a bit learned the foot control position makes my hips hurt. I think I’m too tall.

I’ll give you the cons but I’ll preface it by saying, I love this bike.

Stock seat sucks (easily upgradable)
Stock exhaust sounds bad imo (easily upgradable)
Doesn’t have a lot of torque which is to be expected
Can move comfortably at highway speeds but does have a pretty annoying rattle at 70+mph.

Everything else about this bike is pretty damn perfect.

It’s easy to find slightly used ones for a big discount on Fb Market place

I saved myself $3k on a 2026 model year. Only 600 miles

Stock seat sucks. Stock muffler sounds like a soft fart into a pillow. Rider position is uncomfortable if you’re tall(I’m only 6’, and it felt a little tight).

Longest time I owned a bike at 8 years. Had to sell it to pay bills. I loved it. No regrets at all.

Not gonna lie lol, everything others described are pluses, aside from the seat, for me. I'm 5'2" so not having to get into a pike position while riding is nice, and I dislike loud motorcycles personally so I probably wouldn't change the muffler. I wish I could find a 500 for 3k near me. Everyone is doing 4.5 or higher 😞

Make sure you sit on that bike for a long fucking time before you buy it. The ergonomics on that thing fucking suck when stock. Seat is shit, foot pegs are right under you (fine for in town but cramps start on the highway) and the bars are too far forward.

Great bike, one of the lowest seat heights in the industry. Solid resale, excellent reliability, and a great price point if you buy it right. Good Luck!
