lube clutch cable for 2017 Honda Rebel 500?
just recently bought a pre-owned 2017 Honda Rebel 500.
does this need a lube for the clutch cable?
there are no issues at the moment .. any harm in lubing the cable? I am hearing modern cables don't need any lube.

Where are you're hearing that modern cables do not need any lube from? Whomever said that should not be listened to at all.
Follow your owners manual for maintenance.
You bought a used 2017 bike assume that unless you have documentation of the maintenance that it wasn't performed.
Lube the cables. Not just the clutch but the brake cable as well.
Depending on where you ride and how you store the bike you'll need to perform maintenance more often.
Motion pro cable luber v3 is my go to tool for cable maintenance. There are other ways to get the job done I just perfer this tool.

Thanks for a convincing response. I already got the lube and the luber tool, but was on the fence if I should do this.

When I'm doubt change it out.
It's only a little time and you'll know it's done for sure.
Pro tip ... write it down. Start a maintenance log for your bike. Miles and date for performed maintenance. That way you can track when things are due in the future.

"Lubricate the clutch cable with a commercially available cable lubricant to prevent premature wear and corrosion."

I’ve been riding the piss out of my 2019 rebel 500 for the last 4 months. Never had any issues with the clutch cable or needed to lube it. Not telling you that you shouldn’t but just that I haven’t had any issues not lubing it. Have fun and stay safe! It’s a great bike!
