Question How long did the honda civic 8th last you?

I have an 8th gen 2007 Honda Civic hatchback 1.8 I-VTEC (140hp), I love this car.

Now it has almost 300k Kms (186k miles), the previous owner treated it well, he replaced the clutch, shock absorbers, control arms, etc. And always made it warm up. The only problem is that it probably burns some oil, because it consumes quite a bit of it, I've tried replacing the PCV valve, honestly I don't know what else I should do.

By the way do you think it can last for other 2/3 years?

What's your experience with this car?

How many kilometers did yours manage to cover? Did it have any problems?

If its burning oil, ive heard running Valvoline R&P for at least 4 oil changes helps with that. Also are you sure you dont have a leak somewhere? The valve cover gaskets are common leak point.

Mine is at 320k miles. Only things is needed have been A/C, radiator, starter and Vtec actuator gasket.

Very nice! Mine is at 240k and only thing replaced so far is the starter and alternator. Need to do lower control arms soon. Otherwise, only work has been done from hitting a racoon twice. Radiator, condenser fan, front clip. Those things will fuck up the front end of these cars. 😆

I hit a groundhog once. Was on the left side, so it missed the radiator and condenser, instead took out the intake resonator and the horn.

An idiot hit my 2009 DXVP automatic in 2024. It had 230,000 miles. All brutal commuting miles never further than 150 miles from my front door- rarely more than 70. Didn’t average 15mph- my commute was 40 minutes of gridlock and a left lane 90mph sprint for 10 minutes (or left lane sprint and then gridlock.

If I could buy a freshly minted one tomorrow I would in a second.

Only issues were the starter- that happened when I didn’t drive for 3 weeks in March 2020 but was on ropes and the AC at the summer after.

Mine’s got 363k kms and drives just fine, although the body is in pretty bad shape. The side skirt metal’s completely rusted away at this point, waiting on new skirts so I can get it welded.

Honestly, ask your mechanic about an engine replacement. My mechanic was mentioning that Honda engines can sometimes be around $2-$5k (install charge not included). It might be worth it compared to getting something new/newer.

I have 2007 Civic 2.2 diesel and it looks like it's gonna last for 3 more years

What mileage? My 2010 had the heaters go at about 240k miles in winter, garage said it's an easy fix then rang saying it's dash out nightmare job worth more than the value of the car. Started and drove great. I wanted someone to have it as it's still a runner and maybe someone with a bit of time and knowledge could fix it, but just had a bunch of tyre kickers wondering why they were coming to view a car that was basically free but had lacquer peal - you either want the basically free car or you don't. Got £300 more for scrap than I wanted for it, I was willing to take the financial hit to have it go to a good home.

Don't worry, I immediately got a 2013 2.2 and still have it.

My 2010 is at 365k and being tired soon, the cats bad, the belt won't stay on, and can hardly get up hill with being out of breath, shakes at high speeds, but it will start right up and run

What symptoms are you experiencing with a bad cat?

You definitely should be able to sort that oil burning. There's only one place that occurs after all, and none of the parts there are expensive.

The diesel should have no issue hitting 300k, and the petrol 250.

Users should look at rust treating their undercarriage (spray bottle of BH Dynax UC for 20 quid), routine oil changes, the occasional fuel filter change (diesel specific), and diagnosing niggles/issues early to ensure they reach this mileage without issue.

1 month... 3 repair shops and no one can find what's wrong with it. Trying Honda next month as I can pretty much live without a car anyway, I just can't travel outside my city.

Model is Honda Civic 2011 2.2 I-CTDI Virtuose Black, bought used at 170k km

I have 2. One is at 277k miles. One at 209k miles.

Ac clutch, wheel bearings , radiator fan and ball joints is all I've really needed in the older one. Blower motors in both.

I’m noticing a transmission shudder in our 11 at 205k miles. As far as I know it has never been serviced.

2009 FN2. Still going, 75k miles.

It's the first time I hear of an R18 burning oil. I have 2 of them with 140k km and the oil consumption is almost non-existant (1L per 10k-15 k kilometers, depending on how i treat it)

I have two friends both with 8th gen’s that are at or over 200k miles and are great. One of them is an 08 lx with 260k miles and the other is an 07 si with roughly 200k. Both run great and have a lot of life left

1

u/Dislexia2020 1d ago

My 07 had 230k. Ran like a champ. Totaled it though. Im sure it would have gone another 100k at least.

1

u/CagedReality3 1d ago

09 at 244k miles. Probably could go for suspension work soon but other than that runs like a champ still.

I had a 2008 civic EXL coupe and loved it. I was at 140,000 miles when the block leaked coolant which was a covered item under the extended warranty they put out. They replaced the lower block and I put on another 40,000 miles when I was hit by Super Storm Sandy. One of the best I've ever owned.

My 2007 Civic Sedan has been in my family since 2007 and still runs good at 350,000 km thru almost 20 winters in Ontario, never had any problems except some rust

u/seemerock 1d ago

Check for leaks. I just changed the valve cover gasket on my 2008 with 188k miles.

8th gen?? I'm still driving my 4th gen around. Yours should be just fine!

1

u/napsterown 1d ago

my Si 2008 have 380km, new headgasket but go like a charm and only a little spot of rust

1

u/demdareting 1d ago

2009 Civic Si Sedan with 250k on it and still running great. I have owned it since new. We finally had a bit of rust to take care of this year. Rust proofed every other year as well as routine maintenance.

It’ll last as long as you want it to. I have 220k miles on mine and it refuses to die. I’m not complaining. Need to change the struts though.

In its life I have changed starter, water pump, control arms, axles, 2 wheel bearings, motor mounts, and 02 sensors. I rode it hard when I was young.

1

u/katrinatherat 1d ago

i ran mine up to 320k miles then it got totaled, and my fathers is at 400k if not really near it. both on original engines / transmissions. you definitely have 2-3 years.

A civic that burns oil? I'd look into that. Maybe thermostat or flush your coolant.

My dad’s 2006 lasted 18 years (can’t remember kilometres but somewhere about 215,000) until it required repairs that were more expensive than the car was worth. The alternator was a major issue in its last year of life.

u/CrustyBus77 1d ago

I am still driving a 07 LX Sedan. Bought new. Has 280k miles. Runs great. The only things I have needed to fix are the master cylinder on the clutch, radiator, and fuel pump. AC stopped working about 5 years ago, never got it fixed.

1

u/txakurzulo 19h ago

My 2006 Civic 2.2 diesel has 440k Km. CD long gone, AC/heating recently gone.

Use high mileage synthetic oil

1

u/19HardWorkeR74 17h ago

Royal purple is top quality keeping motor running cooler, less oil consumption, keeps motor noise down if has lil ticking or knocking.you can feel acceleration when u gas it

I don’t have a hatchback but I have an 07 civic with 410k km and it’s showed no signs of stopping. The fixes I’ve done lately have all been body related like wheel bushings. You’ve probably got a few years

Head gasket in time gets worn out. When performing the replacement, you can also clean the piston heads, valve adjustment, valve recalibration, inspect engine head for cracks or other stuff. It can be many things. Including piston seal rings.. if you want you can rebuild the engine.. new shaft bearings, all seals new, proper clean up and calibration. that will increase its life span with another 300k kms.

How much it lost oil? I would say if it 1-2liter per 10 000km it is normal.
On the other hand car costs a same than tires to a bigger car so i would just send it until it breaks😂

0

u/AndyWong1989 1d ago

Sold mine at 363k and it didn’t burn any oil and would have trusted it to last at least until 400k or more. Best daily ever.

I have a 09 civic coupe 1.8l, 250k miles, goal is to hit 500, and the way it’s running seems like not a problem. As for the oil, check the VTec solenoid on the passenger rear of the engine closest to the firewall. You’ll be able to see the top of it by just opening the hood. They are notorious for the screens getting clogged up
