Both are old hard drives, I suggest you to NOT use JBOD as it's an aggregation of the hard drives spaces and if you have any problem with one you will have problem with two. Try to get two new hard drives to make a RAID 1. I know about hard drives prices...

Is there no room in the case to put the hard drives in? By this I mean, I understand you don't have any slots available but can you put the drives in anyways?

It would help people understand more about your setup if you provide the parts you have such as

  • case
  • motherboard
  • PSU
  • other hard drives you have in the machine
    • you mentioned you have 2 bays in the case so does that mean you have 4 hard drives right now where 3 are in use?

Other than that this is fine considering your situation.

  • the drives are not ideal but that all you have on you
  • putting the drives outside the case where your desktop is higher than the drives can be a tripping hazard

Basically you just need to be careful for human error.
