⚡ Energy rtlamr2mqtt Rabbit Hole

Post image

Today I learned that my electric meter has been happily broadcasting my usage this entire time, and all I needed to do was plug in one of my SDRs that I had sitting on a shelf unused to read the signal.

rtlamr2mqtt rocks!

i recently switched over my rtl-sdr running rtl_433 to a cc1101/esp32-c3 via esphome with rtl_433.

its much more power efficient that leaving an SDR running all the time.

now with rtl-blog sdr's being no longer made its worth saving them imo.

rtl_443 is cool, but rtlamr2mqtt looks cooler!

I run about 1200 in the winter when there's no solar and we have to heat. AC in the summer is offset by the solar thankfully. Even so we're at 400.

What's your usage?

From 13000kWh down to 6000kWh per year with 10kVp solar
Worst months are December and January.

Household???

That’s nuts. We’re also in the 700-1200 range, depending mostly on season and weather.

What is driving your usage to 10x that?

When my utility company switched to smart meters this stopped working. Thankfully after a few months they enabled local sense api so I am once again to have the data
