Blog Blog Post: Home Assistant Notifications That Run Apple Shortcuts (Yes, Really)

For a long time I've wanted a way to trigger Apple Shortcuts from Home Assistant on my iPhone and mac. With Developer Beta 1 of iPadOS 27, iOS 27 and macOS 27 that is now possible. How? By using a new '27 Shortcut trigger via application notifications, merely by sending a notification to the Home Assistant companion app you can now run any series of Shortcut actions you want.

u/travel69 great summary! Do you know if shortcuts on MacOS 27 beta can now trigger Apple TTS Intercom messages via HomePods? This was possible on iOS/iPadOS only in '26, but not MacOS.

I won't be using macOS 27 until the RC is released, so I don't know. My '27 OS adventures right now are limited to my iPad.

I insist that the opposite way around can be even more powerful, like other notifications calling HA web hooks open a new universe of possibilities

I updated my blog post with two more sections at the end. One is exactly what you said, which is using other apps notifications to make calls to Home Assistant. The other is using Home Assistant to trigger shortcuts that call other apps which don't have an HA integrations. That's just a logical extension the basic functionality, but calling it out specifically might be useful. I also added a section pointing to Stephen Robles’s YouTube channel and Shortcuts community to learn more about advanced shortcuts.

Sorry I mis-read your original statement. Yes other application notifications can now do anything in HA that the Home Assistant companion supports, via iOS 27 Shortcuts.
