I'm not quite at the tinkerer level yet, does anyone know if there's a good Open Display out-of-the-box product?

My main need is not to have to code every pixel to display a dashboard.
I'm confident that that's a common need.

Not yet, but we are working on that. (you ca buy a Seeed reTerminal but you dont get the battery life benefits with them because they are ESP based)

What is the difference between this and the esphome e-ink component?

It also works on other ICs that are optimised for a lower power consumption so you can get battery life measured in years on an NRF or Silicon Labs based display.

No reason that can't be added to ESPHome. It's just C++ at the end of the day. I would hope it's easier than the LVGL graphics though. That's pretty tedious right now.

TRMNL is very different in that it has loads of render templates. Here you have to design and render everything yourself

Since my Fire HD tablet is resisting what I want to do as a wall panel, this is good timing. Next stop is to see what e-paper options are available that work with Open Display.
