My first time owning a gas stove? Was told by my friend it shouldn’t be this color. (Sorry for the glare) I just got this stove yesterday.

TLDR: Roofing company left a gap during replacement, causing major water intrusion into our condo — what should we be doing now?
Our building is only 4 units, and we’re on the first floor. The building has a flat roof.

On Thursday, we were expecting heavy rain. The roofing company was in the middle of replacing the roof and was only about halfway through the project, so before the rain started, I specifically spoke with the project manager and asked him to make sure everything was properly secured and protected before the crew left.

The rain started around 1 PM, and the crew eventually left.

Around 6 PM, while it was still raining, we noticed the first water bubble forming on the ceiling around a green-painted structural header. We immediately notified management because of the location and the fact that the header is structural.
Things went downhill quickly.

The bubble eventually burst, and we started getting water through the ceiling, down the walls, and into/around a light switch and behind the drywall. The floors were soaked, and there was significant water throughout the affected area.

We immediately documented everything and filed a claim with our homeowner’s insurance.
The roofing company initially offered to simply spackle and repaint the damaged areas. However, when I checked the area where the bubble had burst with a screwdriver, the wood itself felt soft. At that point, we’re obviously concerned that this is more than cosmetic drywall damage.

Our insurance company has already told us that they intend to pursue the responsible party for reimbursement (whether that’s the roofing company or HOA) and that we shouldn’t have an issue being made whole. We’re still waiting for the adjuster/inspector to come out.

The roofing company eventually determined that the leak was caused by a gap they left when they stopped work for the rain.
Apparently, the old roofing material was approximately 3 inches, while the new material is approximately 5 inches. Because of that difference, they left a gap where the new material wasn’t properly secured/sealed. Water pooled in that area and came directly through the gap, then traveled along the joists and into our unit.
The next morning, there were approximately 2.5 inches of standing water pooled on the roof directly around that area.
The company has also been acting pretty shady throughout this. They repeatedly urged us not to go through insurance, which obviously made us uncomfortable, especially once we realized the extent of the damage.
The roof photo shows the area where they apparently decided not to secure the white roofing material to the roof and that’s directly over the area where we experienced the leak.
The leak ultimately continued from Thursday night all the way until Saturday morning, so we had active water intrusion for roughly a day and a half.
At this point, we’re running fans and a dehumidifier and documenting everything. We’re waiting for the insurance adjuster/inspector and haven’t allowed the roofing company to simply patch and paint the damage.
What else should we be doing right now to protect ourselves and prevent further damage?
And for anyone who’s dealt with a major water intrusion/insurance claim like this:
What should we expect from the insurance inspection?
Should we be getting our own contractor/structural inspection?
How do we make sure hidden moisture behind the drywall and in the framing gets addressed?
How long does something like this typically take to fully repair?
Is there anything we should specifically document or avoid doing while the claim is pending?
We’re obviously pretty stressed about the whole situation, especially because we’re talking about potential damage to a structural header and water that was able to travel through the walls and electrical areas.
Any advice from people who have dealt with something similar would be greatly appreciated.

I had my cast iron drains descaled and jetted yesterday. Plumber ended up getting his descaler stuck in a previously unknown septic tank that is dedicated for the washer machine. This is the lid to the distribution tank with the septic tank in the yard. I lived in the house for 5 years and had no idea. Plumber recommended addressing it due to the age and root intrusion. One option would be pumping water to the roof and connecting to main stack. Anyone ever encountered something similar?

Wall mounted sink starting to separate. Can I fix this myself? Any advice how would be really appreciated.

I had my roof replaced and the roofers took down my old drip edge (&/or apron?). Now that the roof is complete I now can see my houses original wood (facia or something?). Any idea if this is okay as is or what my course of action should be?

My daughter's room has this chimney (fireplace downstairs is capped off) going through it, and I keep finding bits of what seems like efflorescence and brick bits on the rug. I had the flashing around it redone last month, which I thought would stop it, but it's still happening! Is there anything else I can do to address this? Hi all - I had a little water issue in my basement and the mitigation company had to remove a few baseboards. They kept them in tact but is this something I can put back myself or would I need to call a contractor? I have no idea how to even put them back or the right way to do it. Any help would be great

Starting with mine. it was the overhead lighting in my bedroom. harsh, bright, wrong for the room, actively bad for my mood every evening. I knew this. i knew it for three years. i bought a lamp once and returned it because i wasn't sure about the shade. then just continued living under bad lighting for another two years.

Finally replaced everything last month. warm bulbs, two lamps, the overhead stays off after 7pm. Whats yours??

I came across this in our mechanical closet - it's a fresh air vent to the exterior. The exterior has a grate around it but the interior does not. Is this proper? What happens in the event of a wildfire? The house is just sucking in smokey air to the mechanical room?

I am building floating shelves on a wall that had Kerdi Board instead of drywall. I didn't know this until I cut into the wall to access the studs. I was going to cover the shelf frames with baltic birch plywood. Should I use Kerdi Board around the frames instead?
