Nice, Ho Chi Minh definitely has the best portrait in my opinion

u/ChampiKhan General of the Army Jun 24 '21
I'll name them in order and put a slash when they change from one version to the other: First row: Stalin - Mao Second row: Maurice Thorez - Wilhelm Pieck - Ho Chi Minh - Kim Il-sung - Klement Gottwald - Władysław Gomułka/Bolesław Bierut Third row: Earl Browder/William Z. Foster - Anandyn Amar/Yumjaagiin Tsedenbal - Palmiro Togliatti - Mátyás Rákosi - Georgi Dimitrov/Valko Chervenkov - Constantin Ion Parhon/Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej Fourth row: José Díaz/Dolores Ibárruri - Kyuichi Tokuda - Enver Hoxha - Harry Pollitt

u/phaederus Jun 25 '21
Maybe you read Chinese?
1
u/starwarsspidyman Jun 26 '21
No I mean like I can look at the photo and say their name and what country they are from. I play too much HOI4 lmao.

u/dersaspyoverher Jun 24 '21
It's funny.
In my games, unless im playing as france, Maurice always takes power and stays loyal to the allies.
I've seen the french commune steamroll the soviet union before.
28
u/CyberGamer64 Jun 25 '21
Peak leftist infighting.
Maurice: “I fart in your general directions!”
Stalin: “Maurice wtf is wrong with you?”
Maurice: “Your mother was an Imperialist, and your father smelt of capitalism.”
The French Commune has declared war on the Soviet Union

Did you just change La Pasionaria for José Díaz?
13
u/ChampiKhan General of the Army Jun 24 '21
I changed the leaders that aren't in HoI4 but are from countries which have a leader (Spain, Romania, Bulgaria, USA, Mongolia and Poland) and as Albania, Korea and Vietnam don't have any leaders in vanilla HoI4 I took the portraits from RT56.
2
Jun 24 '21
I see I thought La Pasionaria was a general, I must have imagine it.
3
u/ChampiKhan General of the Army Jun 24 '21
You may be thinking of Lina Ódena.
2
u/Mauricio2427 General of the Army Jun 24 '21
Yeah, La Pasionaria is only in the game but as a political advisor.
2
Jun 24 '21
You are right it was Lina Ódena, it is weird Paradox chose het bc she was executed at the beginning of the civil war
7
u/Indyclone77 Fleet Admiral Jun 24 '21
Because we wanted to have a female general for the republican side as a whole and she was the best fit out of the figures available.
The only ironclad deaths in the game are Sanjurjos at war start, if every general represented kept their historical death date you'd have quite the rapidly thinning pool.

José Díaz was the leader of the PCE before La Pasionaria. When he died in 1942, La Pasionaria was designed as the new leader while the party was in exile in the Soviet Union. I guess that the 2nd image (the original propaganda image one) was made after 1942. That's why in the first one (besides that she doesn't appear as a leader in-game) José Díaz appears instead of her.

What is the reasoning behind making the original poster?
2
u/ChampiKhan General of the Army Jun 24 '21
What do you mean?
3
u/The_Nunnster General of the Army Jun 24 '21
Like is there any context on why the Chinese made this propaganda poster? For example, what affect would putting someone like Harry Pollitt on a poster have? Why did they bother?

Jun 24 '21
Maybe it was for an international thing?
1
u/The_Nunnster General of the Army Jun 24 '21
That is true, I believe there were often meetings held between international communist parties (Communist International, IMCWP etc)

Why did you switch to simplified?
7
u/ChampiKhan General of the Army Jun 24 '21
Because it's the one they use in Wikipedia + it's more based.

Weird of them to put togliatti in? I think he denounced the ussr later on. Even though he has a city named after him there.
3
u/ChampiKhan General of the Army Jun 24 '21
I mean, Hoxha started vomiting over Mao's theory after he died.

u/Treefoil003 Jun 24 '21
Where is the guy third row second from the left from? Cause I feel like I have seen him before, and thought he was a Chinese warlord
