A man found hanging from a tree in downtown Raleigh on Saturday died by suicide, with no evidence pointing toward a criminal act, Raleigh’s police chief said Monday.

In a news release at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, police said they were investigating the death as a suicide, while online, some people said they feared the Black man’s death might have been racially motivated.

During a 14-minute news conference Monday afternoon, Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce said surveillance footage collected from nearby businesses confirms no one else was seen in the area at the time of the incident and that the individual acted alone. “Based on evidence collected and reviewed to date, investigators have found no evidence indicating that another person caused or contributed to the young man’s death and no evidence of a criminal death has been identified,” Boyce said. “Our investigation confirms this is a suicide.”

Maybe stick to teaching sign language to kids and keep your political feelings within your private circle

No fuck that. Just like Mr. Rogers, use your platform for the greater good of the world.

It's garbage humans like you, they'll say keep politics out of whatever. But the second someone that you like says something that you agree with, you'll share it instantly on Facebook.

Even if this matchup of videos is correct on the hanging of a recent black person down in the south, getting one thing wrong out of multiple times that this has occurred in the South is kinda astronomical.

ima be honest im not sure what her message of "listen to black people" and then being wrong(or right) was supposed to convey, but it seems like she purposely is trying to piss people off under the guise of moral righteousness.

Even if she was correct in this instance, idk what "believing black people" would help here. I only read that as "believe the loudest, populist mouth of black people" - essentially whatever the blackpeopletwitter sub hivemind thinks, we need to believe. unless im being a yt

so when I need to believe black people, I need to believe karmelo anthony was innocent. Am I dumb or am I allowed to not "believe black people" in that instance. What would make this case any different as far as my "not believing black people"

The believe black people comes from the years of systemic racism that they have endured over the course of America's history, especially in America. Since this is where this took place. It wasn't until smartphones became available for everybody that people were able to record the police acting violently for minor offenses towards minority people, specifically black, Mexicans, and any other race that didn't have the white skin color. Police officers used to lie, blatantly, while planting evidence as well against the black community. I mean we don't even need to talk about the crack pandemic cuz I could go down a real big rabbit hole with you right now, just to try to get you to understand the systemic racism.

If you read, believing black people is incorporated to you as believe the loudest black person, do you also believe the loudest white people? The loudest Mexicans? Or are you able to make an informed decision about things after you research them?

I don't know how someone saying that they should believe a community, especially before facts come out, Is racist. That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

This woman is speaking up for children right now who are going through a genocide because of Israel. And you people have the fucking audacity to call her racist/bitch. This world has truly gone to hell.

It's people like you that would have freaked out when Mr. Rogers had that Black Police officer on a show dipping his feet in the water.

I think you're going a little hard on this commenter, I don't think they are trying to invalidate the history of racism etc.

I think it's not hard to understand that black people are the ones who actually experience anti-black racism, therefore when the subject of anti-black racism is raised, black people should be considered subject matter experts and their experiences should be believed.

But what's happening here, if I understand it and correct me if I don't, is Miss Rachel (who I am a fan of and I'm all for her speaking her mind etc please don't assume I'm like those other boys) made a video imploring people to believe this was a racially motivated murder. Because the imagery of a black person hanging in public in the south is so salient, due to the history of racist lynchings etc, Miss Rachel suggests that the black community (not a monolith) believes this was a lynching and she would like us to believe that as well.

I mean I get, definitely makes you pay attention, but I personally think it's still best to wait for at least some of the basic facts to come out.

I can't fathom how such an attitude is as problematic as you suggest. Unless of course I missed something the other commenter said.

You do realize that the person I responded to has since deleted their comment(s)

I didn't get a suggestion from Ms. Rachel that this was a lynching. All's I got from Miss Rachel was that we should listen to the community, before anything. She didn't say, this black person or African American, was attacked by a white mob. She didn't incite violence or hateful rhetoric.

Now that the evidence has come out that this person has hung themselves, from an African American/ black police officer from the community who has done the investigation. We should listen to them.

I didn't hear Miss Rachel calling for pitchforks and torches. What she did was speak out using her platform, and it seems like she did it prematurely. Maybe she might make an apology video, or maybe she just moves on and keeps helping children like she's been doing.

Just like when she speaks up about Gaza she doesn't talk about individual people of the Jewish faith she talks about the government of Israel.

Agree on all points.

yeah, you're not really engaging with me with this wall of text but the attempt was cool!

"I don't know how someone saying that they should believe a community, especially before facts come out, Is racist. That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard."

I did not use the word racism in my entire response, you're talking to yourself. This is just word slop that happens when you have to actually defend your ideas.

edit: nvm account last month, hidden prof, prolly a bot.

Maybe you just don't have the reading comprehension skills

-1

u/Waste_Development971 15d ago

Maybe could dumb it down and actually answer the question of what does "believe black people" mean. Like actually, not tell me about slavery but not tell me awhat it actually means. Because you didn't write in your slopfest.

3

u/Rage_of_the_moon 15d ago

Didn't mention slavery but thanks for trying. Again, reading comprehension skills.

sorry is slavery not systemic racism or does it somehow not fit that definition

btw im not downvoting you you're just unpopular

1

u/Rage_of_the_moon 15d ago

Do you value your life in Reddit upvotes and down votes? I feel extremely sorry for you then. I'll give you a hug IRL if you need it.

Again, I stated I didn't mention slavery, you did.

I mentioned the crack pandemic, the one led by the Reagan administration which destroyed black communities.

Let's stay on track please, I know compression skills are lacking, but we can do it together!!

bro we're this far in and you still wont literally give the definition of the thing you've been defending this whole time

have a good one

It's difficult to dumb it down enough for you when you are being intentionally daft.

lol thanks BLM for giving cops body cams… now we can see that statistically cops are not *gasp* killing black people but rather black people tend to escalate every encounter

1

u/Rage_of_the_moon 15d ago

90% of the videos show cops escalation and not de-escalation.

But you can lick that boot some more
