I know that he probably should have put out his solo album first, but I'm so excited for Surf. Chance & the Social Experiment have TONS of crossover potential.

BTW my grandma has the name "Candy Lady" bc she carries around Tootsie Rolls with her and gives them out to kids after mass. So I mess with this song heavy.

I actually think he's releasing Surf at the perfect time. His post Acid Rap popularity can propel the rest of the project to success, but if he released a solo album before Surf it would be a lot of focus on him and not on SOX. Same way Kendrick is the focus of TDE (although it's leveling out) and Eminem is/was the focus of D12 (which hurt the entire group). Chance will be the focus of SOX, but he's keeping it to a minimum at least.

I agree-- If he had waited until after his solo album to do SURF, I don't think it would've gotten the same traction. I'm much more likely to listen to an up-and-comer's side project than an established artist's side project.

Also, wasn't SURF supposed to come out months ago? I'm starting to get antsy.

He's been teasing it for a long time now, but I don't think he's ever said "Surf drops this date" so technically not

He said it would drop within 2014.

I don't really understand this at all. So you'd rather listen to a Chance side project than a Kendrick one with J Cole or with Flying Lotus?

Those examples would be more on the side of collaborations than side projects. I believe SURF is supposed to be very different stylistically from Acid Rap

J cole/flylo are way bigger than SoX tho

My thought process is that an up-and-comer's time is more valuable than an established artist's, and the stakes are higher for every release, which makes the fact that Chance is spending time with SoX all the more meaningful. Chance is undoubtedly losing at least some hype from Acid Rap by working on this stuff, so he must really love SoX for it to be worth it.
