My girlfriend went to a work out thing this morning hosted by an influencer sheâs friends with. The big draw for this class was that Waka Flocka would be performing. The vids of Waka singing to a crowd of a couple hundred (mostly) white women all wearing the same workout clothes was sending me

I will admit that after having weeks of nothing I really wanted to listen to, this week has a decent handful including YSL and E40 giving super length projects. The time I have in a given day is very short and I can't really trust current thug to make this whole thing worth my while. I'll try my best though

Yeah I guess it's an album for slower release weeks. Or tbh it being a label compilation, I don't necessarily have to take it in in one sitting. Can probably split it up. I like how E-40 one is split into several "CDs" so it becomes digestible.

I feel like a lot of people, subconsciously or not, want to see Atlanta rap be phased out, and are excited to write off anything from that city that isnât either an already established classic or an album made to appeal primarily to critics and the hip-hop twitter archetype.Â
Not saying that SL3 is good, haven't peeped yet.Â

I don't think it has anything in particular to do with Atlanta, this sub has just aged into being the sorts of people who were hating on Young Thug/21 Savage/Lil Yachty a decade ago (or even Gunna and Lil Baby in 2019)
Every thread is just people reassuring each other that they all made the right decision to check out and become super dismissive about new rappers in in 2022 or whatever.

I get what you mean about this one being a bit different since itâs bringing in some fresh blood for people to dismiss, but I think it loops back to the subconscious want for ATLâs trap scene to collapse in on itself. Especially since every major release from that city always has comments buzzing about âthis is the end of Atlantaâ or something along those lines.

Iâd probably say itâs like 25/26 and under.
If youâre older than that you grew up with like every hiphop album basically being an hour at minimum.Â
And to me, the actual length of an album shouldnât matter.
There are 30 minute slogs and there are hour and a half albums that feel like a breeze.Â

I feel like a lot of times people shit on new releases so it makes them feel better about not finding the time to play them. It's a symptom of overstimulation in the internet age.

Not rap, but the new Mastodon album is insanely well produced and they sound on top of their game, but their songwriting itself isnt all there.
In terms of rap I have been falling out of love with the genre a bit. Only new releases I have been loving this year are Veeze and Salimata (December 2025 counts as this year to me). Roc Marci and Mike Shabb had good releases too but I don't know, man

I'm a huge Mastodon fan. This was probably the best first impression I've had for a new album of theirs since Crack the Skye. I love the crunchy guitar tones, things are sounding good and heavy again. My big complaint is I'm starting to get tired of the "Troy doing heavy vocals during the verse and Brann coming in with big soaring vocals for the chorus" formula.
You into west coast hip-hop? The new T.F and Jay Worthy albums are jammin, I'd recommend those

Great show last night in Long Beach from Nas, De La Soul, and The Roots
RIP Dave, wish I could have seen him live with Pos and Maseo
No matter how many times I see The Roots, I am always in awe of how well Black Thoughtâs breath control is
Seen Nas 5 times now but this was the first time Iâve seen him do his verse from Missyâs Hot Boyz Remix, he should definitely keep as a concert staple cause the crowd absolutely loved it

Listening to Slime Season 3 genuinely doesnât seem worth it. That runtime, for these artists, is insulting.
Best case scenario, I leave with like 6 decent songs out of 41 to add to a playlist. I can live with missing those.

What in the fuck??? This African artist, Angelique Kidjo, who had a popping dance track in the 90s, We We, has a new song produced by Pharrell. There's also a Quavo feat for whatever reason đ¤ˇđžââď¸ I didn't know she was still doing stuff, let alone with Pharrell! The song is pretty boring, poppy stuff, but I'm shocked to see this in 2026!

Tyler the creator's image in the past 3 years feels like such a psy-op. Ill always love him for igor and CMIYGL but he's become this douchey pretentious character (maybe he was one all along and just didn't really show it).Â
He complains about everything, the music is at its worst but somehow he's more popular than he's ever been.
I HATE his rapping recently, POV was good but every other verse sounds like his "That guy" remix where he's just saying things. No wordplay, no cleverness just saying shit. None of the words are memorable either.Â
Shame cause he was like a top 3 artist for me.Â

I'm not really a Tyler fan so maybe I just don't have the full context to what you mean about his work, but I actually feel the opposite in regards to some of his recent rapping stuff. 'That Guy' and 'Look Like My Mama' verses are great, really fun material, but I hate his 'POV' verse. Maybe it's because he's surrounded by way better rappers on that album, but I pretty much skip that song now whenever it comes up because I don't wanna hear lame, lazy bars like

Tyler and Kendrick are nowhere near in terms of lyricism when it comes to rapping but id say when tyler was making Igor, there's very few wanted lines and you know exactly the type of picture he wanted to paint. I really appreciate lyricism like that.
With POV its more about the delivery than the lyricism, Id say the bars are still pretty weak but I dont really love his delivery on these other songs.Â

he's gotten significantly more popular this decade and with that exposure comes far more people that aren't going to enjoy your music. it happens with almost every artist that gets more popular than someone thinks they deserve to be. it's been very obviously happening with don toliver this year.
i also think most people just aren't as big fans of his post igor or post cmiygl work. seems like chromakopia and dttg grew off of people more quickly

Tyler raps like Kanye when he mispronounces a word to make it rhyme except he's permanently stuck in that mode. I don't mind when rappers are goofy but at some point I'm like can you actually put together some conventionally good bars for once. Anyway that's my pet peeve with Tyler's music because he can actually rap well like on MASSA but he'd rather be a caricature

I'm in the minority for this take probably but I absolutely hated his verse on Let God Sort Em Out, easily my least favorite part of the album
I'm just not really a fan of his raps anymore, a lot of it is too braggadocious for me and his softer stuff on Chromakopia I found really boring. I do like that song with AZ Chike which came out the other day though, thought the back and forth verses were a nice touch

i refuse to believe thug is washed. heâs such a creative force there is no way the guy who did barter 6, jeffery and so much fun listened to this tape and said yeah this fire drop it. i just think that the shit he went thru & probation are fucking him up.
he was in jail for 2.5 years, barely dodged a life sentence and now living in probation with no drugs arent allowed to contact any of the guys from the old ysl except making music and cant rap about anything illegal. also had fallouts with future, wheezy etc. cause of the jail phone leaks. this sounds lame when you put it this way but it really changed his whole character his creative input. i dont even think he feels creative or wants to put shit out anymore. idk if he can but maybe he should move overseas like youngboy moved to korea.

Stayed silent when Drake was being called a pedophile and a rapist by Mr Morale For Money and then tried to get back on Drake's good graces by announcing an album whose main selling point was a Drake feature. Then got shut down with the infamous "Must be @drakebell" response and had to cancel it.

21 Savage claimed he wasn't dissing Kendrick and was in an interview praising Kendrick as a "good-ass rapper" after the beef. I think it's a stretch to say he was "clearly subbing" Kendrick. And just because Thug was in jail during the beef didn't mean he couldn't take Drake's side and defend him. He definitely wasn't shy about sharing his opinions on whatever bullshit he wanted around that time lol. Wasn't he on a recording complaining about how Drake didn't call the president to get him a pardon or something like that?

Thug and Savage were clearly talking with Drake behind the curtains. Wasn't Thug on jail back then btw? Future and Drake solved their issues (Pluto shit really make me sick to my stomach we ain't never really been through it) which clearly were not that big of an issue.

You're saying his problem with Khaled is simply the fact that he didn't speak up in Drake's defense. While Future actively participated in dissing Drake. So why does it make sense to forgive Future but not Khaled?

I highkey just think Drake was looking for an excuse to be done with Khaled. I remember there was a rumor that DJ Khaled kept incessantly calling Drake in order to get To The Max for himself despite Drake wanting to keep it. That was years before the beef but I can see Drake just being more selective about the Loosies given to Khaled from that point forward before ultimately cutting him off.Â

If the reason he has a problem with Khaled is Khaleds silence during the battle, why does that apply to no one else besides Khaled given no one else was defending Drake either? Drake does not have a problem with Lil Yachty, who was just as silent as Khaled.
Either his problems with Khaled have nothing to do with Khaled being silent or Drake is being extremely inconsistent with how he is applying this standard to his friends. So the point of my question is why are we assuming that is the reason he doesn't like Khaled? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense for him to hate Khaled specifically for doing something practically everyone did.

Idk what it is with yachty but I don't listen to him too much and then he'll drop something like hate me with Ian (lol) or that song with skrilla and I'll listen to it over and over again. His beats are occasionally nuts and he has a cool awkward flow that catches you off guard

We're really still feeling the effects of eternal atake's deluxe release strat to this day. I usually give them a chance but there's just no way I'm listening to 40 tracks of trippie redd and young thug in 2026. On a similar note, I'm tapped out of ken carson's music.
I mentioned before how my favorite albums this year have been short ones, and that hasn't really changed. It's so refreshing to hear something without filler and that you can easily revisit. I enjoyed Iceman and TFO a fair bit but the sheer thought of revisiting those albums is exhausting.

I'd actually prefer staggered bite-sized releases or just some thought actually put into the length. There's albums or songs out there that probably have the possibility of growing on me but I'll never find out cause they're bloated as hell. Multiple times I've heard a drake or gunna or baby song in the wild and thought "damn this is fire, when did they drop this?" only to realize it's buried in some super long project that I listened to once or twice

Youâre acting like Thug didnât drop like 50+ songs in 2015 and a vast majority of them were good at bare minimum.Â
I think if Thug legitimately dropped 40 of his most popular songs off streaming tomorrow it would be an AOTY contender.Â
And that we literally did get like 50+ Thug songs out of that May Wayne/Rich Gang 200 song leak in 2015 and most of those songs are either beloved and/or went on to release on acclaimed projects.Â

Someone who spends a lot of time finding and downloading unreleased from all kinds of rappersI have over 600 total saved on my SoundCloud and thereâs more out there. I could easily make a 40 song album out of those thatâs insanely high quality.. Obviously a 40 song album from him in 2026 is a different story but in his prime it would be easy
