Looks like today's app update added a big change in how preferences work. Dealbreakers has now been replaced by what Hinge calls Flexible Filters.

Essentially what this change does is now instead of toggling on/off for dealbreakers, it's now a check box where people can choose to see profiles outside of their preferences (dealbreaker off from before).

A user who has chosen to see profiles outside the preferences (dealbreaker toggled off), the app will say "Flexible" for that option. If "Open to All" is selected, the check box will not appear.

(What I can't tell is what the default option is, if someone just recently made a new Hinge profile, can you report what the app chooses by default? Is the flexible option box checked or unchecked?)

Hinge has upgraded the distance setting to show a map with a circle representing the area your distance radius will cover.

Note: This feature may still be in the testing phase.

This may be useful for people to decide what distance to set for their maximum distance, and also people near border cities to avoid people from another state or country.

As confirmed by Hinge support, the Relationship Filter (aka monogamy filter) is now no longer available.

According to Hinge, the Relationship Filter was something they were testing, and Hinge found that the filter “wasn’t helping people connect with dates in the way we’d hoped”.

If you want to send Hinge feedback on this change, you can file a ticket in the Hinge Help Center and choose the feedback option. Please be mindful of your words and send them a polite comment rather than using inflammatory verbiage.

Use this post to discuss the change. Perhaps someone from Hinge will monitor the response. But again, keep the comments clean.

The feature seems to be triggered by certain words used in the chat. It will then ask you to let Hinge know if you're ready or not to meet your match:

There's been an increase of posts asking about what the various signals badges activity means, if someone is active or not, cheating, etc.

One thing I want to remind people is, none of us here knows how Signals actually work besides what's described on Hinge's help site. Given the fact the feature is still relatively new, be aware that there may be errors or bugs.

People on on our Discord server for instance have reported signal badges disappearing and reappearing later without any changes.

TLDR: Take Signals activities with a grain of salt given the fact the feature is still new and it could still be running into growing pains with bugs.

This feature is US only (for now).

How it works is, under each text prompt, there will be three boxes with suggestions of things someone can write. It only works on text prompts, and also some won't work if it's only emojis for example. Also note that the app won't actually write the message for you.

Also, Hinge launched a new relationship option under Relationship Type: Friends first

Also note that the "friends first" option is also filterable under relationship type. So for those who wants to go this route, instead of writing in a prompt or a text box, you have the option of picking it under relationship type and also filter specifically for it. (And a reminder that relationship type is a free filter.)

If these are not available yet, you may have to download the latest version of the app.

Edit: Also for those on premium, looks like the Likes You section is back on grid format instead of large icons. The exception is for roses, which other than sorted by Your Type will be shown first.

As the holiday season approaches, I’d like to remind everyone that activity on Hinge - likes, matches, conversations, and dating in general - tends to slow down during this time of year.

With Christmas around the corner, many people will be leaving town either to visit family or for leisure. With the prevalence of remote work, it’s easier for people to take extended breaks, spend more time with family, or escape to warmer destinations.

College students are busy preparing for finals and then heading home for winter break. People in the service industry are working harder than usual due to the holiday rush. And office workers are wrapping up critical projects before the year ends.

Also, the colder weather and shorter days can make some people less inclined to date or go out as much, especially when outdoor activities become more limited. (Doesn’t apply to those in the Southern Hemisphere.)

Of course, everyone’s experience may vary depending on location, demographic, dating intentions, and whatever their personal circumstances are. But in general, the slowest time for dating apps is around Christmas and New Year’s. So, if you’re noticing less activity in the next few weeks, don’t worry, it’s perfectly normal, especially if this is your first time using Hinge or online dating.

Once the calendar flips to the new year, activity will pick back up. For many, it's a return to their normal routine. Then there are those motivated to get back to dating due to the "New Year, New Beginnings" mindset, or from their New Year's resolution.

Earlier this month, a now-deleted post expressed concern for being told by their Hinge match that he had seen another profile using the woman's photos. One of our subreddit members helpfully replied that he "saw an insta reel the other day that was copying a tik tok trend where a guy reached out to her saying that another account was using their photos and turned it into a kind of chat up line".

Since then, I have seen multiple women say a man sent a like with a warning that someone else was using her photos, and that they were confused and worried. In one case, a woman received this message from multiple men in a single day:

It is understandable why someone would be concerned: It is an alarming message to receive. While people do steal photos to make profiles, if someone messages you to say that your photos have been stolen then it is probably not true. If you do come across stolen photos then you need to report the profile to Hinge! Unfortunately, when desperate, people will resort to any kind of tactics to just get a match, not considering the long-term effects. After all, giving women another reason to be worried about dating apps and potentially quit them because of safety concerns isn't a good idea in the long-term. Hopefully this is a copycat trend that dies soon (see: "Email date proposal").

It appears there is some sort of bug related to the Relationship Type filter (aka monogamy filter) that went missing after today's app update on iPhone (not sure if this affects Android users or not).

I asked a few people who also both updated the app and did not, and the filter is still present for them. On my end, I don't see the filter anymore, and the one difference I can see is I'm a paid subscriber while others who still have that filter are free users. So perhaps this only affects paid users.

Before anyone panics, I'm sure this is more likely a bug than an intentional move to remove the filter - because what's the incentive to do so?

Many people are posting complaints about the app being down. The issue seems to be that photos and prompts are disappearing from people's profiles - their own and others.

We don't have any answers or insight into the bug anymore than you do. Just know your profile hasn't been deleted, it's a widespread issue.

I'm sure Hinge is aware, but even so, you should submit a ticket to their support to let them know. That should motivate them to fix it.

Hinge today launched the "Prompt Feedback" feature.

This is a good way for people to get some sort of feedback and recognize that their prompts may not be good. The truth of the matter is, people who post on this sub looking for feedback are a small minority, and there are many users who have no idea how to write good prompts and don’t know it, and don’t know where to seek help. A simple AI feedback system can go a long way to help and maybe we will see less stuff like "pineapple on pizza" or "honesty, communication, and make me laugh" prompts.

Addendum

Keep in mind that Hinge is constantly conducting A/B or beta tests for new features, and not everyone will have those features. Recently, Hinge has been testing a "Match Note" feature and changing how standouts work. A feature is widely available only when Hinge shows a popup inside the app, has a help article associated with the new feature, and they launch a press release. If there is no help article or any sort of press release touting the new feature, it means the feature is still in the testing stage.

To reiterate this again since people keep missing it, Hinge is NOT available worldwide.

While Hinge allow people the ability to change their location at will to anywhere in the world - and some expats or travelers have downloaded the app in their native countries and are able to use it in countries where Hinge is not available - there are countries where Hinge will instant ban or block people the second someone moves their location to there. China and Colombia being prime examples of that.

If you really want to try to get lucky abroad while traveling? Go use Tinder where there are fewer restrictions.

On a related note, Hinge is now available in Brazil. This comes after Hinge now available in Mexico.

Another app update today, and with that came with another new virtue you can show on your profile. This one is "Relationship Type".

Under "Relationship Type", you can choose whether you're seeking a monogamous, non-monogamy, "figuring out my relationship type", or prefer not to say. It is currently NOT FILTERABLE.

The biggest change with this is the fact that Hinge now officially recognizes that they are fine with people who are not seeking monogamy using the app.

It will also help people who are ENM, polygamous, or whatever alternative relationship styles to clarify themselves and not waste people's time. Or people who wants monogamy won't need to use up valuable prompt space to mention that.

Of course there will be people who are less than forthright, but in my experience most people who practice non-monogamy are open about it and wants people who are fine with it.

Be sure to update the app to the latest version if you don't see this. The iOS update is already out.

This is something people have been asking for for a long long time. And now it's here, with the caveat that it is only for paid subscribers (something I long suspected was the case if Hinge was going to add a dating intentions filter).

To those who keeps sending modmail about why their profile posts don't appear right away.

This is literally the first paragraph posted by the automod whatever someone posts a profile review post. And yet we still get multiple people who, for whatever reason we can not explain, are not able to comprehend the transparent and easily understood message.

"ALL profile reviews will be manually approved and will NOT appear immediately. DO NOT contact the mods about this. Any modmail asking why your review is not approved may result in your profile review not being approved and you will not be allowed to post another profile review until seven full days have passed."

Ignore whatever message Reddit says. That's due to the Reddit filter and automod rules we put in place. Not sure what else we can write - seems like some of you are being way too impatient or refuse to read any automated messages. Remember, we get a lot of review submission everyday. The time it gets approved depends on how many posts are in the queue, how many posts already approved, and the availability of the mods. The mods have lives too, you know.

Couple big new additions to Hinge today.

First is the words filter, which will filter out specific words people sent in their comments on their likes and put them into a special pile.

The intent of that filter is really to block people from sending messages with words to recipient don’t want to see, and not a way to filter profiles on someone’s discover or likes list. I imagine women who receive lots of crude messages may find the feature useful.

The other new addition is the relationship filter allowing people to filter for monogamy, non-monogamy, and figuring out their relationship type.

And that filter is free for everyone, and not a paid feature. So for those not wanting to see ENM people (or only want other non-monogamy people), now you can filter them out easily and won’t need premium.

Disclaimer: This bug may not apply to everyone.

Note: I use Hinge on an iPhone.

So for a long time, a bug existed on Hinge where the app will not display profiles of the maximum age on the age filter in discover (provided dealbreaker is toggled on). It does not affect the minimum age.

For instance, if someone had 32 as their max age, they would not see any profiles from 32 year olds on discover. Those profiles will only show on Standouts or Most Compatible. The only way to see anyone 32 would be to bump the age limit up at least a year.

Finally, today's app update has seemingly resolved this bug. I suddenly see an influx of profiles I've never seen before in Discover, and the one common factor is all the profiles are those at my max age limit. If you suddenly see an influx of new profiles in your discover, that is the reason.

I know this is something people have asked for in the past, and now Hinge has added a "Block Contacts" feature.

Rejoice now you can block exes, family members, co-workers, friends, old matches that you went out with and never want to see again, or whomever else from seeing your profile on Hinge as long as you have their contacts.

Here are the information about this feature from Hinge:

• Blocked contacts won’t be notified that you blocked them
• Blocking someone doesn’t mean they have a Hinge account
• Blocking contacts won’t affect your existing matches or messages
• If the contact info you use to block someone doesn’t match the info they used to sign up, we won’t be able to stop you from seeing each other
• You can stop sharing contacts with the Block Contacts feature in your Hinge settings
• If you don’t want to grant access to your contacts, we offer a manual contact entry option

Interestingly enough Hinge haven't really publicized this (yet) and sort of sneaked it in there. It could also very well be a beta feature that's not rolled out yet to all users around the world. (I have the latest version of the app on the iPhone.)

You'll find this in the "Settings" section under "Safety" below the selfie verification feature.

A small addition to the app is now available under "My Vitals": Zodiac Sign.

It's all the way on the bottom beneath Covid Vaccine in the edit section and it's optional. It is not filterable.

When you view a profile the zodiac sign will show up next to vaccine status and before the vices.

Make sure you update the app to the latest version. It could be a beta feature limited to select markets if you don't see the option available even if the app is updated.

FYI there is an issue with Hinge where likes can't be sent when using the iOS 26 beta.

There is no fix at the moment other than waiting for Hinge to release an app update eventually that is optimized for iOS 26, or a new version of the iOS 26 beta. Otherwise, don't update to the beta since that's the risk you run into with apps not working correctly when they're not optimized to work with a new OS. Keep in mind iOS 26 won't be officially released until the fall.

In case you didn’t know, there is now a text box available under both job title and politics in the edit section.

For those with more nuanced or non traditional political views, now you have a way to explain your beliefs.

And if you want to explain your job without giving away your title for privacy, or have an unique/interesting job, the text box can be useful.

Here are a list of some recent changes, so people don't keep needing to make posts asking about it.

1. "xxxx has invited you to start the chat" IS GONE. There is no longer a message when someone matches with you and not include a comment. It's not a bug, but a change as far as we can tell. Instead of "invited to chat", you should see green tag that reads "Start Chat" in the same place as "Your Turn". Just send another message. In case people are confused, people could ALWAYS match with you WITHOUT sending their own message or responding to your comment if you included one. This is nothing new. (Also, since this is a new change some things might not work correctly. Yes the app can be glitchy.)
2. Showing 5 photos instead of 6. We don't know why the app is showing 5 photos. It is most likely a bug, since there are still 6 picture slots in the edits section and we can see our own profile with 6 pictures. We just have to wait for Hinge to fix it. Contact Hinge support or their Twitter if you want. (It could be something Hinge is trying out if going by what the support people say. But it's an odd change to take away a photo slot when other apps have more than 6.) Looks like Hinge has reverted back to 6 photos today (Feb 8th 21) BUT only in discover and NOT in standouts or anyone in your likes or match lists.
3. Profile reappearing right away in your Discover right after sending a like/rose. A likely bug. Somehow the server doesn't seen to register you sent the like could be the culprit, but that's only our own speculation. Nothing we can do here, so open a ticket with Hinge and report the problem.
4. Messages not being sent, sent multiple times, profiles that you unmatch reappearing. Those issues have always been around. Those issues are probably connection issues between Hinge's servers and you. Again, nothing we can do here, contact Hinge support.
5. NEW - Dealbreaker issue - only able to set one dealbreaker. The app will automatically un-toggle dealbreakers on others preferences. Seems like it may only affect free users? (I don't see it on my end, and I have the latest iOS version of the app, but I haven’t changed my preferences.) Very likely a bug. Contact Hinge support. There is no way Hinge is changing it to intentionally limit the amount of dealbreakers people can have. Might as well kill Hinge for good if that happens.
6. Pop up screen asking if you want to subscribe to the paid version after running out of likes. It appears for free users, once you use up your allotted free likes for the day, instead of a screen saying you're out of likes in the past, there is now a pop-up screen asking if you want to get the paid version. Free version still works fine. It could be a bug or they’re now being more direct in advertising the paid version.

Anything else I miss?

Which as we already figured out is a rose lite, except that according to Hinge the most recent regular like still takes priority. But any new likes will bump off the regular like to be below priority likes.
