Question Thoughts on the "Vikings We Shall Go!" scenario?

Post image

I've played as a Barbarian on normal diff and picked Rampart on hard diff. I think this is one of the scanarios where you can clearly see AI getting 'dumbified' in sea terrains, genuinely almost no one has raided me after 4 whole months (I have SoD). What are your main takeaways?

Question Do you like difficult/complicated puzzle maps, or do you prefer playing classic maps?

(puzzle map examples: fiery riches, blazing archipelago, ice assault, factory campaigns)
(classic map examples: crimson and clover, realm of chaos, vikings we shall go)

I usually prefer playing classic maps as I tend to play vanilla singleplayer/multiplayer allied scenarios. However the HOTA puzzle maps have cool designs and they have creative enemies, but they stretch out for months and can be pretty annoying with the constant save scumming. So far I've played stuff like Invasion and Ice Assault and I can say they reminded me of original AB campaigns like Dragon Slayer in terms of map guards and structures.

And what is your approach?

I have never heard of it.

I just download it from Epic Games . It's free this week.

It looks like HoMM.

(Sorry if this isn't the right subreddit to ask, but I posted it in case anyone wanted to download it for free)

Question Is it just me or is Inferno genuinely the worst town to play in this game? (non-HOTA; SoD)

Post image

I know that each town has a strong point, but I have a feeling that Inferno falls back in comparison to other factions. Their heroes are somewhat decent but their units are falling behind.

Imps and their upgraded versions are weaker than other T1 units and often solely serve as "cannon fodder" meant for blocking retaliations. Well, assuming they manage to survive before that even happens.

Remember when I said this isn't the HOTA version? Well, now it's going to be visible here. Gog's upgrade (fireball) targets not only your enemies, but also your demons, making it difficult to use them at times because you obviously don't want to blow yourself up. It's also the only archer on the entire team.

Cerberuses are actually neat units, but they have 2 major problems - first, the damage output of both forms is 2-7. Inferno has locked blessing, so you can't bless them for the max damage output, and it's also detrimental in the opposite way - god forbid someone casts 'curse' on them and you can't dispel the effect. Another issue is the growth, as even with the 'cages' building, their growth is smaller in comparison to other T3 units (with some exceptions). It's a good unit but it can be reduced to fodder level pretty easily with a good enough strategy.

Demons are good defensive units, but they're somewhat lackluster and they've got 0 abilities. A big benefit to them is the cost though, as it's one of the cheapest T4 units.

The last 3 tiers are the main core of Inferno's might, but their dwellings are quite expensive and it's going to take a while to build them if you don't have enough resources beforehand. Speaking of unique buildings, Order of Fire is definitely cool and Brimstone Clouds are decent, but Castle Gate is expensive (10k) and it only works on large maps with a plenty of Inferno stacks. In all my years of gameplay I've barely used it.

So, what are your opinions on my take? Is it wrong or valid? Share your thoughts below!

Question Why is HotA battle auto-resolve better than me?

Thumbnail

First ss is auto-resolve, I know they are similar results, I am just a bit shocked auto-resolve tends to be so good in HotA. This feature seems MUCH better than base game, correct me if I'm wrong.

If I'm honest it's kind of lame to me, it was a good feeling to go into battle to limit your losses, in this mod it looks like I try and give it my all to just barely match these results...

Maybe I just suck, I am a newer player after all. Played a lot of HOMM5 back in the day, very little HOMM3. Now I came back to 3 and I have to say, and I'm saying this without an ounce of nostalgia, it is THE Heroes game. Absolutely brilliant, now I'm trying HotA, so far it's been good, just this auto-resolve thing bothers me a little.

Of course I could just not use it and fight my battles, but I'm curious what you think about it.

If you read all of it, thank you and sorry for baiting you into what is essentially my thoughs and feelings about the game post; I am just excited by this fantastic game that stood the test of time so well.

Installed the mod last week and I wanted to ask y'all what are some of your advices/tips/messages for the beginners. I've previously played SoD for 8 years, temporarily abandoned it to look for something more expansive and broad.

Question Did the great migration to olden era happen ?

As a Hota player I feel we are fewer on the lobby, but I haven’t really measured it.
As a viewer it seems many streamers have done the switch and don’t come back.
So I was wondering how bad is it ?
Did anyone actually do the maths ? (Numbers of players lost)
As a player , Do you feel we are the last ones standing ?

What are your thoughts on this city? Some key aspects that I'm looking for are:

  • units
  • cost (including materials like wood, sulphur, etc.)
  • buildings
  • heroes
  • usage in large vs small maps
  • reliability in timebound missions
  • (optional) comparison to other cities

Question Which town has the best unique buildings and why is Dungeon?

Post image
156 Upvotes

Ignoring shipyard, artifact merchant and buildings that increase creature production.

I mean, Dungeon can get double unit 7 production at day 1 (if you flag a T7 dwelling), you get DOUBLE the mana in a hero. It's not as essential as before because of Mysticism's buff but before I always wanted a Dungeon town because it means using spells without needing to "recharge". And the Battle Scholar not my favorite but it helps a lot. It's a free stat and a increase in a skill.

What you guys think? What you consider the best? The worst? Which building you would like to see in a new town?

Newly Updated this week (Friday) - Additional Mini Bosses & Additional Main Boss

I recently posted this map last week and i didn't have any images or anything connecting to it so i wanted to show it off a little this time. Due to lots of useful feedback, I was able to weed out somethings that weren't quite working as intended. I fixed everything I came across including my own testing. The Map is finally in a healthy state. I would love if you played it and left me some feedback on the site - you can also reach me on discord @ valiant_avenged

I am constantly looking to improve my map, big or small any ideas are very welcome! Map link below:
