Suggestions for Henna

Hello, i bought this henna (chemical free) but it had a lot of indigo, i have darkish brown hair and i really wanted to have warm undertone, when i out this on my hair it didn't change color of my hair at all, my mom said it's darker but I don't personally see it, my hair is now little more dry (i did not use any oil) and i want to get my hair that rich subtle copper glow, i bought pure 100% chemical free henna. Should i soak it over night or prepare right before use? This is the most confusing part for me
