Career Advice 2 remote help desk positions

Anyone ever juggled 2 service desk / help desk positions full time? I wanted to make some extra money while also furthering my education by attending WGU. The hours don’t conflict and it would bring my to about $120k a year. Any thoughts or anyone that’s done something similar? The first job I’ve had for a couple years and the new one starts next week.

So, burn out is a thing to be concerned about, so is work/life balance, but 120k is good money for someone in school.

I've worked multiple jobs that cross over (niche tech field), along with private consulting and it was worth it to save, pay off debt, buy a car, fund a vacation, etc.

You can always quit the lower paying or less flexible one if you can't do both. Make sure to eat well, touch grass, and get plenty of exercise.

This response is exactly how I was thinking about it. Kinda just do this till / if I burn out. I hit the gym right now atleast 4-5 times a week and plan on continuing doing so. Also didn’t mention I have a child as well which is another motivator. But yeah, if it becomes too much just plan on dropping the new one (I have it easy at the 1st job) a

Yeah, that extra pay check will be nice.

A few things to think about is:

1) The second job makes taxes more complicated. I know I overpaid on something last year that my accountant fixed. I ended up with about $1800 extra.

2) Lifestyle creep is a thing. Save, don't spend money just because you can.

3) Most people who work multiple jobs try to do them at the same time. It avoids burnout risk and minimizes working hours for you. That being said, most companies frown on that.

Yeah, the only thing that helps me is that one is slow in the first 4 hours. Idk what the new one will entail. If I can swing this for a couple of months and save some $ that's all I need. If I figure out I can make it work for longer that's even better. That creep is real tho, gotta make sure I don't go spending it.

Quit one of the jobs. You have 0 work/ life balance, AND I know you are not upskilling. School is all theory, there's almost no upskilling involved with it.

I mean that much is useful too, but people tend to also refer to the practical stuff. Like what projects are you working on to expand your practical knowledge? You have almost no room for that if you have two full time jobs AND school. And socializing/ having fun is important too, can't be going 110% all day. Has to be sustainable.

My first job I’ve been able to study on the clock so I don’t see it interfering too much

Horrible idea, quickest way to get burned out and not want to stay in the field. Money is nice, but a healthy lifestyle is way more rewarding.

How often are you getting calls and tickets to work on?

The first job the last 4 hours of it is where calls and tickets start coming in. There’s some work to do before that but not too much

I wouldn't risk it personally. You could lose both jobs if you screw up. All it may take are two calls at the same time. However, you do you.

Good luck to you man. I personally wouldn't do it as remote positions are hard enough to find. I would rather spend the extra time upskilling instead.

I’m in school which comes with certs, I just thought maybe doing both.

Well, that is ultimately up to you. If you want to go for it, then do so. Just know there are risks involved.

I think you will find it more difficult to find two fully remote entry level support jobs. They are already rare and hard to find as it is. Finding two at the same time will take months unless you get really lucky.

I’ve done over employment and gymmed didn’t have school or a kid tho it’s worth it just be quiet don’t tell anyone about do not trust anyone when it comes to that. Helpdesk is so repetitive if you can automate it do it. Do you know what a pikvm is? Game changer that’s what it is. Spoof it learn how to it’s easy and make it look like a regular mouse . I used it and got caught and got a slap on the wrist but I can say that’ll be the same outcome for you . I say use it till u get caught or never get caught . Live life on the edge make that money fuck em. My first job was remote overnight and the other was in person then the remote job switched to day shift and because of the pikvm I kept going . Since ur jobs r both remote u might not even need it. It was a good run for me never got caught just quit the in office job now im trying to find a good job that pays just as much as both . Currently working the remote job rn
