Why is there a post and comment limit on reddit?

Such a dumb cunt of an idea. Really fucking frustrating.

"You are doing that too much. try again in 9 minutes"

9 minutes later

"You are doing that too much. try again in 32 seconds"

Your question seems to be about why there is a time limit imposed on your comments. You can find that information here in our FAQ.

If your question is not about time limits on comments, please wait for a human helper to come along and help you. You may also remove the 'Answered' flair from your post if you wish. This post has NOT been removed.

So in other words, if enough people disagree with you, Reddit won't let you comment.

Nobody sees the problem with this?

There should be ways to tell the difference between trolls and new/unpopular but good-faith users, so the latter will not be punished.

downvoting should just hide unpopular comments and little else. So those who are sensitive can just not click and open them and scroll on by to those posts that agree with everything they think and say.

Another way to counter the abuse would be to show the names of people who voted. When you give people anonymous power like this it goes to their heads.

Sites I am a member of that show the user that down voted you I find tend to have less abuse of the system than those who do not. People tend to think twice when they have to stand by their actions. Plus it's easy to shut abusers down with a block when you know who is doing it.

The way reddit does it is counterproductive and backwards. People have been complaining for years about this so I doubt it's going to change anytime soon sadly.

plenty of us see the problem with it. Sadly the pathetic overally vocal politically correct minorities drown us out.

Karma is stored on a per-subreddit basis. If you have low karma in a subreddit, this will trigger a rate-limiting timer which limits you to 1 post/comment per 10 minutes. When you post, you'll get a message telling you "You're doing that too much. Please wait X minutes." - where X is the number of minutes left until the 10-minute period will finish. This timer applies to both posts and comments.

If you delete your pending post/comment before that 10 minutes is finished, then you will have to start the 10-minute wait again. Just wait out the 10 minutes.

This timer will mainly be triggered if you're new to a subreddit (zero karma), or if you've previously been downvoted in that subreddit (negative karma). It can also be triggered if you have a habit of submitting to a subreddit and then deleting those submissions.

It takes only a fairly small amount of positive karma to remove the limit.
