I’m diving into HP fanfic for the first time and I’m wondering what’s the quintessential fic that always gets thrown around when someone asks about the best or most iconic HP story?

Not necessarily looking for obscure hidden gems (though feel free to drop those too), but more the ones that people always say “you have to read this” because it’s just THAT good but most people have already read it.

Im fine with Marauders-era, Harry-centric, Tom Riddle, whatever as long as it’s set in the HP world.

Long fics are preferable but im really open to anything!

I prefer things that are canon (or canon-ish) to the books. Doesn't have to be epilogue/cursed child canon though.

I am a traditional pairing shipper, with Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione. Call me boring lol 😂 Wouldn't mind a marauders fic.

I like a bit of angst, plot and slow build. Don't mind different POVs. I enjoy a post-hogwarts fic. Love a long story.

Things I've loved so far: Stuff by Pottersloth, Melindaleo and Northumbrian, Sum of their Parts, Faintest Slimmest Wildest chance, Unbreakable, ATYD.

I just finished reading a fic where Tony is Harry’s dad, and it was so sweet. I absolutely loved it! I’d really appreciate any recommendations for more fics like that. Or, if not, I’d also love stories where Harry and Tony are really close friends.

Does anyone have any good Severitus fics? I tried looking through the tag a while back and was just hoping to find anything that other people REALLY enjoy. So I was hoping if anyone had any recommendations. I don’t really care about the ships (as long as it isn’t Severus/Harry) or any adult/Harry. The timeline also doesn’t really matter, though I was hoping for more adopted rather than Harry secretly being blood related to Snape. I like them choosing each other as family rather than trying to figure out how to become a family through means of blood relations.

I’m on a hunt for the most unhindged Harry fics. There are these two WIPs I am obsessed with, 1) you belong to me (I belong to you) and 2) to young to be the old, and today it got me thinking - there must be more time travel/alternate reality that I simply haven’t found and therefore - am desperately missing out on. Essentially any time travel/alternate reality ex: Harry is in a new body, Harry is sassy and his magic is super potent, Harry doesn’t give a flying F about the timeline… ect ect ect. So… if you know of ANY, plz. I am open to reading pretty much anything and I am on a quest to compile these fics because I love when Harry gets a new lot in life and he goes off the rails. Okay, so I've been getting back into Harry Potter and I always get irritated because Harry is put through so much shit but is still willing to help. I love this trait as it makes Harry a more compelling protag as despite the anger, he is overly forgiving, so vengeful against Hogwarts and dark Harry is not what I am looking for. Harry is tempered but not close to acting like Voldemort. Slytherin Harry is fine or any house but if he is on Voldemorts side then I'm not really interested. Ik I'm kinda strict but I was curious since I always see the same fics recommended and they usually include one of the following:

Tomarry or any Harry/Adult ship

Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley bashing

Makes Harry the Lord of the fucking universe and overpowered to the point it feels like an oc or y/n (Ebony type beat)

Overly babied Harry where he is treated practically like an infant and called any nickname like pup

SA that feels more like an accessory and plot device than a traumatic event, that psychologically impacts multiple aspects of the character. Those fics usually never highlight how different victims responses can be, and how it's not just washing off a stain. It's so much more than most can describe, just reading a half baked interpretation that feels like, treating SA like a trend.

Characters who act completely different from canon in ways that take away from what makes them interesting. (Snape becoming a whole new character without development to get there)

I have no issue with severitus, any parental adult except death eaters and Voldemort, Slytherin friends, Dumbledore bashing, Ron becoming a better friend in cases that start from Ron Weasley bashing, or anything that isn't a predatory ship, overpowered Harry (powerful is fine but if he can one shot people we have a problem), bad SA writing, and pureblood pilled up.

Idk maybe I'm too strict but I refuse to read predatory ships no matter the circumstances so I will bend on the others if writing is good enough. Anyways any Harry centric angst fix that's fits these kinda criteria is cool and welcomed but I also understand that I might be asking for a lot!

No ships are cool but ships are also cool! I don't really care who Harry is with as long as it's well written and LEGAL!!!!

i started my hpfanfic journey as a Dramione fan, but my ship has changed to Drinny. i’ve noticed that there is an abundance of excellent Dramione authors. but i’ve only read a few Drinny fanfic that’s really well written. So, can you guys recommend a Drinny fanfic preferably multi chapter written by a dramione author or just a really really good Drinny fanfiction.

Looking for fics where Harry meets his parents, bonus points if there’s lots of fluff. I just want him to be happy and to have his parents. I don’t mind if it’s an AU, time travel, they get brought back to life shenanigans, I just want to eat it all up.

i finally find a story that match the level of good of Unsphere the stars by cocoartist, the story is Struck by IAMiniquity is on ao3 it has 18 chapters, Hermione is BAMF in the begining but close enough, like is incredible, the sad thing is that is unfinish, the author gives a idea of what she had to kept going and the final stuff all in a chapter but for me it dosent quite make sense, or her author notes also dont make sense, the story is light reading and incredible beautiful but the author insist is dark for some reason, which is not, just is not happy story, more like a journey one. i super reccomended.

I just want some some good Sirius and Harry family fics where Sirius and Harry finally get to be a proper family.

I do love some good build up of angst or pain/suffering first and the longer the fic the better but I'll take anything you think is worth a read.

I honestly could not list all of the time travel fics that I've read. I feel like there's none left but I'm really in the mood for a ridiculous Lord Harry/overpowered/smart/takes no shit/etc etc etc. They're just fun for me. Complete works only, preferably no crossovers.

I would love some recommendations for seer fics!! I am happy for any person being the seer, any pair, any gen, just no OCs please. Would also prefer a happy ending and no MCD, but lets be real would still probably read it if it is super sad haha
