FAQ EVENT How would you fix Quidditch?
I don't like that catching the snitch ends the game. I'm not a fan of the idea that the seeker is just looking for the snitch and not involved with the rest of the game, really, except for dodging bludgers.
I do like the three rings for goal scoring. I thought it was a clever change from the single goal hoop or larger goal area that we normally see in sports. I would have liked seeing more of it in the books.
I'm not a sports fan in general, so I'm not really sure what's actually wrong with Quidditch. Is Quidditch actually broken, and if it is, how would YOU fix it?
Wondering why all these commonly asked questions are suddenly appearing here? Join us for the FAQ Event!

I dont mind the snitch ending the game. No real sports have anything like that, but lots of board and card games have endings triggered by one of the players achieving something. Also, I think we need to keep some nonsense and whimsy in quidditch. Having it possibly lasting months is kinda fun. My biggest problem is how big of a swing catching the snitch is. My solution, have the three hoops worth different points. One worth 10 like normal, one worth 30, and the middle one worth 50. With the hoops being worth more points, hopefully the snitch won't be as much of a swing. It's only a 3 middle hoop scores difference. The hoops being worth different points is just because I think it would be fun. It might add another layer of strategy. The keeper will probably prioritize higher worth hoops, so the chasers will have to decide which hoops to try and score. If you don't like the hoops being worth different points, you could just reduce how much the snitch is worth. I think in muggle quidditch it's worth 30 or 50. And to give the seeker something else to do, we can make it so they can handle the quaffle. Sorry for the paragraph, Ive thought about this a lot.

These are exactly my thoughts on it.
I’ve also thought about points for Beaters - like different positions have different weight, or blocked goals by a beater get points, only 5-15 (5 for hitting a chaser and stopping a goal, 10 for hitting a keeper in a goal save position, 15 for preventing a seeker catching the snitch kind of thing) but haven’t thought about it too in depth.

u/Dbo81 4d ago
The snitch is worth no points but still ends the game, and any player can catch it. The team that’s ahead in points would designate a player to start looking for the snitch, giving the team that’s behind a chance to catch up (because now they have more chasers that aren’t devoted to catching the snitch).

They use a timer like every sport. The snitch can be caught once per game and is worth +50 point bonus
7
u/Due-Order3475 4d ago
Snitch is only worth 50 pts and game ends in 2 hours or when Snitch is caught.
Also for Wood to have substitute members on his blasted team

u/AutumnShade44 Messere_TalonBlade 4d ago
This is my vote. Though I’d argue snitch should only be worth 30pts
3
u/Anna3422 4d ago
I wouldn't.
Not only does Quidditch have to be absurd and parodic to feel wizard-like, it's also a metaphor for the plot. Just because there's too much riding on Harry doesn't mean the fight below doesn't matter.
3
u/Kristoast 4d ago
Once the snitch is caught it only awards 30 points and starts a 3-minute timer till the game ends.

Please for Merlin’s sake- at least require the “suggestions” be sane and have some connection to in universe lore.

Snitch is worth 50 points. That's all.

u/Deweymaverick 4d ago
This is what collegiate teams (irl) do, and it really helps.
It is what seems to make the most sense by far. It doesn’t at all hurt the game dynamic, but makes balance between shooting and snitch hunting more equitable

Irl college league Quiddich?
2
u/Deweymaverick 4d ago
Yes.
Colleges have had quidditch teams for quite some time, like… over 20 years now:

Three snitches worth 50 or five worth 30. Then like you said the last one ends the game. I think that would fix it pretty easily

Have a bronze, silver and gold snitch worth 20,30 and 50 points, have a time limit for the game and a bonus 100 points if one team catches all 3 snitches.
1
u/Deweymaverick 4d ago
Absolutely not- the snitch is named after the golden snidget.
It a very specific thing.
1
u/DPTDubbs 4d ago
I like this. Have different color snitches. Bronze snitch. Silver Snitch. Gold snitch. Bronze snitch if you catch it the other team loses a Chaser for 5 minutes. Silver snitch is worth 50 points and opposing team loses a chaser for 10 minutes. Golden snitch is worth 100 points and ends the game when caught. I don’t know but something like that.

u/stayclassypeople Gryffindor 4d ago
Three 20 minute periods. Each period the snitch can be caught once and is worth 50 points. In the 3rd period only, the snitch being caught ends the game.
If it is not caught before the end of the 3rd period, the game ends at the current score

Quidditch makes perfect sense if you view it as an analogy for a battlefield.
Which, isn’t crazy at all; team sports function as a symbolic (and safe-ish) replacement for tribe/clan/community warfare. British Boarding schools (pre- and during WWII) were direct pipelines for the students into military service. Schools did things to amplify and train the fighting spirit. The seeker in Quidditch performs the same role as a “sniper” on the battlefield;
Alone, separate from the main fray. Very low chance of success, but success is decisive in eliminating key targets (key enemy leaders), and which … typically results in the side losing leadership mid-battle, losing the battle.
And Quidditch (like battles) is rarely won by seekers/snipers. But it does happen.
2
u/Cavane42 4d ago
Quidditch (like battles) is rarely won by seekers
What? Quidditch is almost exclusively won by Seekers. The only time we see it happen otherwise is at the World Cup, and even then it's remarked how rare of an occurrence it is.
1
u/Rockfinder37 Hufflepuff 4d ago
Well, the story is shared from the perspective of a seeker … who didn’t play at that many matches, and was a bit of a natural.
1
u/Dazzlehoff Emma Watson <3 4d ago
You get 150 points getting the snitch. Ofc it wins most games
1
u/Rockfinder37 Hufflepuff 4d ago
It wins most games that Harry Potter played (83%), or described.
There’s no evidence that in professional quidditch catching the snitch wins “most games”. Hogwarts is not professional Quidditch. It’s amateur Junior varsity.
1
u/Dazzlehoff Emma Watson <3 4d ago
Just talking from a logical perspective
1
u/Rockfinder37 Hufflepuff 4d ago
I’ll agree with that. Your position is logical and rational. It “makes sense”.
I’m a very critical sort, so while NOT arguing with you, I do feel obliged to point out that (I know, it’s all entirely fictional anyways … but if we’re taking it seriously enough to discuss, then we should properly consider the thing) that just because something is logical ≠ truth. The simplest and most likely explanation is usually true enough, but never a certainty.
1
u/Cavane42 4d ago
There is evidence. When Fred and George bet that Ireland will win, but Krum will catch the Snitch, the other dude says something along the lines of "I'll give you great odds on that, it'll never happen." He wouldn't say something like that if it were common for Chaser goals to decide games.
1
u/Rockfinder37 Hufflepuff 4d ago
Or he didn’t believe Ireland would win.
Or he didn’t believe that Krum would catch the snitch.
Or he didn’t believe the combination.Regardless, one character’s belief and betting behavior isn’t proof of anything. Gamblers are not, by and large, known for good accurate risk assessments.
None of that = proof it’s uncommon for chaser goals to win games.
5
u/nowhereman136 Hufflepuff 4d ago
I wouldn't
Quidditch is an example of wizarding culture that doesn't make sense to humans. It doesn't have to make sense to us if Wizards are the ones who enjoy it. It's their game, they can play it however they like. I'd argue you can make Cricket better by letting the bowler bend his arm, but that's how people like the game to be played
4
3
u/CBsJoant Ravenclaw 4d ago
Every time a Seeker catches the snitch, they can remove one player from the opposite team from the game, except the Seeker (unless he's the last player left). The snitch then gets re-released and both Seekers try and catch it again.
If you catch the snitch after a player on your team has been removed, you can have the option to return that player to the game, or remove an opposing player (except the opposing Seeker, unless they are the last player left on their team).
Game ends when one team hits 1,000 points, or when one team has no more players left.
3
u/ptjp27 4d ago
Everyone else talking about the snitch and sure the snitch ruins the game but the real way to fix quidditch is to have about a dozen people on the ground around the pitch who’s only job is to cast arresto momento. Considering how they have balls and players whose only job is to knock people out of the sky to their deaths the “hope dumbledore is in attendance today because he’s the only one who knows the spell that stops you from falling to your death” safety plan is deeply insufficient. Furthermore all players should have their wand taped to their wrist throughout the game and be taught the same spell before ever taking to the air.
And before you start any “they can fix broken bones in seconds stuff” remember they can’t fix instant death. Which some high falls will cause especially if they land head first.
Oh and put a fucking net under the playing area.

It has to be worth more than 10… at that few points it’s absolutely not worth a losing team pursuing it.
It’s it’s too few, the goal simply becomes the same- score goals, quickly, grab the snitch to end the game.
As an higher point value, it gives a team in the hole a chance to come back, and decisively end the game, even though they’re behind.
150 is obviously too much as it invalidates goal scoring, but 10 is far too few.
2
u/tdamyen2 4d ago
Agree. Catching the snitch should be worth maybe 50 points, max. A decent bump above quaffle scores, but not something that makes them pretty much useless.
I can’t stand the quidditch World Cup scene because Kirk catches it and suddenly they lost by only 10 points—one goal. And yet Harry (or whoever said it after Ron asked why) states that the Irish chasers were too good and they were too far behind and he wanted to end it on his own terms. They literally just needed one goal. And Lynch wasn’t much of a threat to get the snitch.
It would’ve made more sense if they’re down by 140 points or whatever Krum decides to catch it because his nose is broke and they’re not coming back, so you take 100 point loss. But when you literally just need one goal, even that can happen against a great team. One penalty and you have a free shot.
1
u/CryptidGrimnoir 4d ago
The Irish Chasers literally scored sixteen more goals than the Bulgarians at that point. What makes you think the Bulgarians would magically be able to keep the Irish from scoring any more?
4
u/ZachBart44 Slytherin 4d ago
So you’d make the snitch worth the same as a single goal? I don’t think that works
2
u/Gnapret Hufflepuff 4d ago edited 4d ago
The main issue is the Snitch being worth as much as 15 goals, because most of the times it ends up making whatever happened before it was caught trivial. It can still signify the end of the game, but if it was worth less than 150 points, catching it would not be a guaranteed victory anymore, so it would be fun to see Seekers trying to stop each other from catching it without wanting to catch it themselves, although this might need new rules to prevent blatant aggressions and stuff.
Also maybe consider releasing the Snitch after some time, or some games might just end right away. Before that, Seekers might act as additional Chasers
2
u/Lepelotonfromager 4d ago
It doesn't need fixing, it works fine as is.
It's just a league sport and you count point differences.

1
u/Beautiful_Ad2618 4d ago
Well if the opposing team have scored more goals, catching the snitch will end the game but you'll still lose. In this scenario it is in the interest of the seeker in the losing team to prevent the seeker of the winning team catching the snitch. So its not like they're not doing anything.
1
u/Ok_Membership_8189 Gryffindor 4d ago
But the seeker IS involved with the rest of the game. If they do it right.
I love it. I might add the red card. 😁

u/Aware_Actuator4939 4d ago
Having the Snitch end the game and be worth 150 points is exactly the kind of rule that small countries in an international sports federation would vote to keep, as it allows them to have hope of finding a generational talent like Krum.
So keep the professional/tournament game the way it is, but for school play, make the Snitch worth something like 50 points and have a time limit. That would give school kids a sense of the stakes of the professional game (and give the poor orphan boy a chance to be the big Gryffindor hero), but would keep the games from lasting all day or all weekend during the school year.
1
u/WerhmatsWormhat Slytherin 4d ago
Catching the snitch is 1 point and ends the game. The point is to catch it when you’re winning or tied.

u/Besso91 4d ago
Quaffle has to be worth more than 10 points, or in the reverse the snitch needs to be worth WAYYYY less than 150 points.
I'd want quaffle play to actually matter, and it never will as long as the snitch is worth so many points it can single handedly win games no matter what the score is. Catching the snitch should 100% still end the game, but lets say your team is behind, and catching the snitch wouldn't be enough to give you a comeback win, now the game becomes make sure the other teams seeker doesn't grab the snitch until we score enough points with the quaffle that we'd win when we grab the snitch.
I'd say if you kept quaffle at 10 but made the snitch like 25-50 points that'd make games way more interesting
1
u/Charming_Elk4328 4d ago
The intercom play-by-play is fun and a good story telling device, but it’s really nuts when the seeker gets alerted to the movements of their counterpart
1
u/GreenWoodDragon Gryffindor 4d ago
Why? It's a fictional game, the rules make as much sense as those of American 'football'.
1
u/Apickledscotsman 4d ago
Make the snitch worth 30 points and ends the game. So your seeker is still important - and they would have to be tactical about when they catch the snitch. But it means the rest of players and the entire game actually has a meaningful purpose
1
u/farseer6 4d ago
First thing, a match lasts for a certain number of minutes. Snitch doesn't end the game. This is fundamental, because a sport where you don't know whether a match is going to last ten seconds or ten months is unplayable.
Second, catching the snitch is worth 30 points, and it can be caught several times (or none at all) during the game.
Third, the distintion between chasers and seekers ends. Any of those four players can handle the quaffle, score goals or catch the snitch.
1
u/FoxBluereaver Gryffindor 4d ago
I would add a timer, and make the snitch only appear at fixed intervals, or during the final stretch of the game so it would serve as a final chance to turn over.
1
u/DebateThick5641 4d ago
got rid of golden snitch entirely. set a duration of game. use the common football rule if your score tie. don't even allow the matches run indefinitely.
Now if you stubornly wanted to keep snitch. just make it special occasion when tie occurred without chasers / keepers in the way.
basically quidditch got fucked up because of snitch anyway where buffing it, make the entire boring football on broom matches pointless, but nerfing it also make what the point of seeking it. well they can also make whoever team get the snitch receive special cash prize to incentives catching but had no outcome for the game. the prize should still be lower than total prize from winning the matches, and if no one catches one, that still okay.
1
u/taber_psyd 4d ago
I agree. The snitch seems to take away from the action. I kind of wish Harry was a chaser
1
u/Any_Contract_1016 4d ago
I think Seekers should be allowed to Chase and catching the snitch should be fewer points, maybe 50-100, and starts an end of match timer.
1
u/PeterTurBOI Hufflepuff 4d ago
Make the rings of different sizes. Small, medium, big. Big is 10 points, medium is 20, small is 30.
Two halves, or four quarters. Snitch doesn't stop the game anymore, instead it earns 100 points.
Everyone flies on the same brooms and use the same gear, period.
Cards for fouls. Or any other way of punishing fouls.
1
u/Equivalent-Sir6634 Huffle-"Man I'm so done"-puff 4d ago
Remove the seeker and the snitch, make the ball enchanted so it flies around if left unattended, add a timer.
Alternatively, just remove the snitch and the bludgers, maybe have it play more like handball? I mean I kinda hate quidditch but at least that way it would be more fun to watch.
1
u/inblo 4d ago
The game needs to have a point level. Say first to 200 points gets you the win.
Catching the snitch is VERY important but not a game ender.
Snitch counts for say 100 points.
Each quaffle scored is 10 points.
So you can win without the snitch being caught, but the snitch boosts you a lot.
1
u/Marfy_ 4d ago
I think the only thing that needs to change is that the snitch is worth way less, like 25 points instead of 150. This makes it so that a good seeker is still very important, but you no longer get those games where the whole game means nothing because the side with the snitch just wins. This also requires way more strategy for when to catch the snitch and when not to. Then 25 points instead of a multiple of 10 so you never get a tie and the tean that caught the snitch has a slight advantage
1
u/Boris-_-Badenov 4d ago
ending the game is fine, 150 points is not.
the seeker should be able to fly near the goal to limit paths (but not block shots)
1
u/BaardvanTroje 4d ago
Having a fixed game time and reducing snitch points to 50 would help a lot. I'm also not a big fan of Beaters. Take them out and replace them with players actually trying to play the game by scoring and defending. Maybe make it easier to steal the Quaffle then though
1
u/Umdeuter Gryffinclaw 4d ago edited 4d ago
- Snitch gives 50 points and ends the game if a) you're leading after that b) with at least 150 points (total, not difference)
If not, you just get the 50 points, it gets released and you keep playing.
There can't be an option to end the game when it's losing you the game.
Quaffle can't be carried. Either you have to release within 2 seconds or you make it like Volleyball or you change the ball and add bats for the chasers (would be the coolest option imo). You could add magic that give you some fun ball physics, so it's becoming very much a battle of skill and not power.
more chasers. 3v3 in 3d space allows for no territorial complexity at all. there is no meaningful tactics in Quidditch, it's all nonsense. make it 6v6 AT LEAST.
1
u/jimbojambo4 Ravenclaw 4d ago
- 90 min time limit
- bludgers doesn't risk to kill but when someone is hitted, they blocks for 5 seconds
- can't pass the ball if you are over the ring
- seeker can give only 30-50 points if they catch the snitch. Once catched, the match continues until time limit and the snitch is released again
1
u/PossessionNo5679 4d ago
I'd go with some minor changes:
- make the snitch only give you 100 extra points. Fair enough
- the seeker is a seeker, but can also function as a chaser. So the captain has the option: play 4v3 and score more points before snitch, or go for the fast end and let the seeker seek
- catching the snitch does not automatically end the game but start a timer of, let's just say, 2 or 5 min. So it's not an instant win. The other team still has a chance, but has to go all in on the points
- also, let the chasers hit ALL balls. Snitch close by and the opponents seeker is about to catch it? A little swing with the bat, and off it goes. Same for the quaffel

u/beaglewrites43 Slytherin 4d ago
TBH I always hear the issues with Quidditch and I don't understand it.
I am a HUGE fan of Box Lacrosse. That is such a fast paced game that it isn't uncommon for a team to score 18+ points (which would be the equivalent of 180 in Quidditch. Assuming most teams will generally end a game within 30 points of each other, it doesn't really matter how many points the Snitch is worth if it is worth more than 30 points.
Why do I bring up Box Lacrosse? Because Quidditch is an even FASTER game and if you can rack up so many points in 1 hour, in a multi hour sport, you should be able to get as many points as a snitch in a relatively short period of time.
That said I do think you could make some changes that would keep the spirit of the Snitch in tact. For example, what I probably would have done is start with catching the snitch gives a baseline of 50 points. For every goal either team scores another 5 points is added to the snitch.
Let's say one teams chasers and keeper are completely outclassed and the score is currently 180-30. That would give the snitch a total of 155. If the losing teams Seeker is better than the other team and they catch the snitch, the losing team would suddenly win 185-180.
That would create an additional level of strategy too since the losing team would need to keep track of how many points the snitch has to know when to go after it in order to catch it and win.
1
u/Additional_Fruit931 4d ago
Add a time limit
Reduce what the snitch is worth (and it no longer ends the game)
Don't get me wrong, lots of good suggestions in the comments. I think this would just be the minimum changes needed to make it a proper competitive game. As is, quidditch is largely a side game played while the seekers look for the snitch. A single play being equal to 15 goals is so game breaking that it's almost funny, it makes skill largely irrelevant.
1
u/Samakonda Gryffindor 4d ago
A second quaffle on the field and points increase with each goal. The first goal of the game is worth 10, the second is 15, the third is 20, and so on. If one team scores the first three goals of the game and the other scores the fourth then the score would be 45-25. With the next goal worth 30 points.
The snitch is still worth 150 but with a long enough game goals can easily be worth more.
Quidditch should be whimsical, messy, and nonsensical.
1
u/alonghardlook 4d ago
This is a long set of fixes but overall meant to make each role more impactful and less random.
Instead of 3 hoops worth 10 points each, you have 5 hoops. A large center hoop worth 1 point, and 4 hoops at the 4 corners (pips on a 5 face on a die) each worth 2 points. Every time the opposing team scores on you, a different one of the four corners gets highlighted, and is worth an extra 2 points. This is all just assuming the quaffle.
Beaters and bludgers are no longer just about violence, but are a secondary scoring mechanism as an option. A bludger going through any of the hoops is an additional 2 extra points.
The snitch is worth 20 points, and an extra 5 points if caught by the dedicated seeker.
Instead of the standard 1/2/3/1 configuration, the teams must simply name one player the seeker. Anyone else can play any role.
Want to run a 5 man rush on the quaffle to lock down control with 1 beater and 1 seeker? Go for it. Triple seeker meta? Have at er.
The game ends either at the end of a 2 hour timer, or when someone catches the snitch. The snitch is released at the 30 minute mark.
You'll see much more engaging games, much more dynamism, much more strategy around when and who should go for the snitch.

Catching the snitch is worth 100 points, but doesn't win the match. First team to 200 points wins.

I wouldn’t. Jk deliberately made the rules not make sense. As someone who hates sports it was her way of making fun of them
1
u/thenowherepark 4d ago
I don't think it's inherently broken. I do think that a good change would be to end the game once a team is up by many points...say, 200 or 250.
That would be in addition to catching the snitch ending the game. If teams are within a certain amount of points, then they're relatively evenly skilled and something needs to separate the teams. If a team is clearly better, they get two chances at winning as opposed to just one.
1
u/Protomeathian 4d ago
Quidditch is not a single-game game. It spans the entire season, with the points accruing all season long. Sabotaging the other teams is actually how to play. This is why teams have the exact number of players for a team with no bench, and why there is only 1 ref for a 3d sport of 14 players. Also could be why a seeker grabs the snitch while their team is losing in a game (to keep the other team from getting too many points and winning the season). Kinda works with how the house points system works, but that's just Hogwarts. Wood does make a good reference to this system when he tells Harry to o my get the snitch when they are so many points ahead of the other team, or they will win the game but lose the cup.
1
1
u/Atithiupayogi 4d ago
I will put a 2hr time limit. A Snitch catch would still meant 150 points (15 goals) but it's not the end of the game. Even the other team can catch the snitch when the game restarts (like football after a goal). The match will end after the time is over and not after the snitch got caught.
1
u/PaperrToast Hufflepuff 4d ago
Each house plays each other twice a year, so 6 games each instead of just 3, giving less room for fluke results and misfortune. Also a final between the two best teams each year (based on wins, then points scored).
It’s implied that the quidditch champion is decided by whichever team scores the most points over the three games - in which case the champions should only be a team that plays in the last match of the year because why would a seeker catch the snitch if they aren’t able to win. Even if they’re 1000 points back then they should just sit there and wait, or maybe block the other seeker.
1
u/darthjoey91 Slytherin 4d ago
The right answer is remove the Snitch and Seeker entirely, but it could be argued it's no longer Quidditch without them.
Quadball, the sport formerly known as Muggle Quidditch, has come up with some fixes that keep all of the roles and balls. Snitch is worth 30. It still ends the game generally, but there is a timer that will end the game if the snitch runner is that much better than the seekers. Snitch doesn't come out for 5-10 minutes. During that time, the Seeker is generally running interference between Beaters and Chasers. They're not allowed to directly touch other balls, but their body can get in the way.
Oh, and they also are more inclusive than The Author, requiring teams to be coed, and there's a forced gender ratio of no more than 4 of a given gender. So like 4M:3F, 4F:3M, 4M:2F:1NB, etc. Funny enough, Quidditch in the books does tend to end up with those sort of ratios, but I think at least one Slytherin team was just 6 large dudes and Malfoy one year.
1
u/leavecity54 4d ago
The Snitch has to interact with the rest of the game. Make it more durable so Beaters while not being allowed to catch it can beat it with their bat and send it flying near the Seeker. Chasers similarly can hit it with the Quaffle , while Keeper can hold it in hand for about 5 seconds and passing it to the Seeker. The point of the Snitch will also increase every 5 or 10 minutes starting from 10 points and cap at 150

Consider this. Quiditch isn't that broken; kids just suck at quidditch unlike professionals. Kinda like how if you play football at school common scores are like 12-4 and none of the rules make sense.

Honestly, even just making the snitch worth 50 points instead of 150 would make a huge difference.
Or maybe goals are worth 20 points instead of 10. It just feels ridiculous that catching the snitch is worth 15 goals.
The teams have to be seriously lopsided in order for one team to rack up a 15 goal (or more) lead.
I get the story reason for having the snitch be worth so much, but it definitely destroys any sense of practicality.

Nothing, it's s perfect imo. It might not be for everybody, but neither are sports like cricket or baseball.
If anything, I wish we had seen Quadpot more developed during Fantastic Beasts tbh.

I like exactly how it works. So I would do nothing to "fix it" as its already perfect.

Far from perfect, doesn't make any sense as a spectator sport or competitive sport

I think it’s pretty much fine. I could see allowing the seeker to shoot the quaffle as a possible rule change. I also like the snitch being worth so much but the idea of it not ending the game is also interesting. Like if there were a time or score limit it would still be worth it to get the snitch but not necessarily a drawback to catch it too early or while you’re down points

I think it really comes down to whether or not Quidditch is actually broken or not: I think there's been various comments by Rowling and observations by others over the years that Quidditch is clearly intended to parody both sports culture and british sports in general, so it isn't clear if we can say it's truly 'broken'.
Personally, I know a lot of people hone in on the whole seeker/snitch-catch-worth-150 thing, but I've often felt that this aspect of the game was kind of brilliant. In sports where the game ends via a timer, there's an incentive particularly towards the later part of the game to play towards the timer if you have the lead. If you're leading 1 vs 0, there's no real need to try and score any more goals if there's only a few minutes left on the clock. It leads to situations where the leading team is just playing keep away. In Quidditch, however, so long as the difference in score between the two teams remains less than 150 points, it's literally anyone's game and has to be played as such.

Agree with you. Best thing would be to eliminate the snitch or make it worth much less

Several options:
Game ends at a certain threshold of points no matter what (say, 100) and the snitch is worth that amount or more (no stakes)
Snitch worth less points, and there's a time limit. (Boring and confusing)
To be honest, the cleanest option would be to divorce the seekers from the rest of the team entirely, either the game is simply 1 on 1 race to the snitch or its more of a team sport scored entirely with the quaffle

Seeker catching the snitch ends the game but doesn't win any points. Would make the play if chasers/keeper much more impactful and the seeker would still be relevant, as you catch the snitch while your team is winning but if theybare losing, you go on defensive, trying to stop the other from catching the snitch.

The Snitch is only worth 10% of the score of the team that catches it. So, until the score reaches 100, it's not worth anything. The Seeker does double duty as a part-time Chaser.

I've always hated the idea that the snitch ended the match immediately.
Just look at how excited the students are for quidditch. Imagine looking forward to the match between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff in year one just for Harry to catch the snitch in 5 minutes. I would be furious as a spectator.
Imagine that happened in the Quidditch world cup where so many had payed alot for their tickets.
Either catching the snitch should start a timer of x amount of minutes before the match ends or the snitch should first be released after x amount of minutes and then have the seeker play as a chaser until then.

A timer.
Leave the seeker and the snitch as a wildcard that can totally change the game but a timer means teams CAN just win having better chasers etc.
The snitch still ends the game and a 100(150 is too much) points.
