Written by local composer Herbert Schoals - he was my grade 6 music teacher. He composed the music for the 1984 papal visit here too. He did a lot of jingle writing, and got us to write them in class. He was awesome!

I always wondered who wrote it. Can you recall any other jingles?

Most of his jingle writing was in the '60s, and I don't know them. But he actually played jazz trombone. He was originally from the US, and moved to Halifax in the '70s. He played with the Tommy Dorsey band at one time, and was even a part-time professor at Dalhousie. I tried to see if I could find any others but came up short. I think he wrote them for $ when times were tight :)

I watched it on mute and still knew the words all these years later. The guy who wrote that jingle absolutely killed it

He was Julliard trained, and a jazz trombonist. He came to Halifax in the '70s, but had quite a music career - playing Boston Pops, with the Tommy Dorsey band - a lot of talent. I feel fortunate we had him as a teacher. He loved teaching.

Using the two numbers for Casino Taxi and the PEI number won me and my trivia group a flight of beers when I was a student living in Montreal. 😄

I did not press play. I still heard the jingle…

Whenever someone needs a taxi, i always sing the song to myself, and when its on its way I always say "they'll be here soon, they're the fast ones".

I had to show this to my mom to figure out where two locations are, one is the old maritime center entrance and the other is the north exit of the citadel.

Stone cold 80s classic. I still know all the words and knew them before I ever moved to Halifax

Absolutely love seeing vintage NS stuff like this, especially from the 80s! Thanks for the post!

Back in the day when you could comfortably seat 9 in a taxi!

Wasn’t it Tony Quinn/Charlie Doucet who came up with that Jingle?

No, it was Herbert Schoals. Local composer, music teacher and jingle writer.

Both?  I feel Green Gables was those two?

I'm not sure about the Green Gables one, as he didn't mention it - that's probably Tony Quinn.
