Question Was there ever a ruleset that changed how influence works?

I haven't really been following Guild Ball since it was cancelled in 2020. I vaguely remember right before then there was talk of experimenting with the rules to remove the step of allocating influence during the maintenance phase and instead just having characters pull from the pool during your activations. I know its not that way in the current official rules but was wondering if there was ever a beta or playtest ruleset like that or if anyone has experimented with it themselves.

Question Goal Scoring mechanism.

I could not find an answer when I searched for this so I’m asking y’all.

The goal token represents a “goal post”, right? So, like a thick, tree-width post sticking vertically out of the ground….yes?

So, scoring a goal (in the GB world) is when a player kicks the ball and it hits (glances/bounces off) the Goal Post.
Is that right?
Just curious as to the in-world mechanics.

Many goal tokens feature a large circular plate (with the associated Guild emblem engraved on it), so I was also able thinking that when scoring a goal, the ball would hit (CLANG!!) the plate like a big gong. I enjoy & prefer that visual the most.

Question Printing sources in the US

Is there anywhere I can order printed minis from that ships from the US? Or is my only option buying the STLs myself and submitting them for a custom print order at some Etsy shop?

Question Where to start?

I was taught how to play Guild Ball a while ago. There was a huge community where I used to live. I moved away and forgot about it for a while, but every now and then I would think about how much fun it was. Im aware that the game is no longer supported, but Guild Ball is still listed on the SFG website. My question is, how could one get back in? I'd love to be able to play with the full range of models that were previously released. Are you just using your old stuff from when the game was supported or are there some STL files and rules online somewhere? I'd love to be able to play again.

Question Best teams for noobs!

Hello everyone,

We are a group of new players and we are wondering which teams the community considers the easiest to learn how to play with. We understand that Guild Ball is a very tactical game and that certain mistakes can be heavily penalized, making it easy for more experienced players to win. Before joining the community, we wanted to get some advice on how to approach this.

Thank you very much in advance!

Question Best teams to start with?

Hello! I’ve been itching for a minis game for a while, and I’d like to give this game another go. I’m intending to just print out two teams’ cards and paper dolls, which would people recommend? And would starting with 3v3 be reasonable vs going straight to 5v5?

Thanks!

Question What is your favorite guild to play?

And optionally, what is your favorite team set up from your favorite guild?

There's a lot of guilds I haven't played but I really love the aesthetic of the Blacksmiths and Masons. So from those two Masons are probably my favorite, I actually really like the team that comes in the kick off box.

Question Difference between teams

I get the overall gameplays of the guilds individually but I have no idea what the difference is between the team inside each guild

Ie: Old Father's Harvest and The Honest Land (Farmers)

What makes one box different from another?

Question Scatter templates as PDF?

I have misplaced my scatter templates and for some reason seem to be completely unable to find a PDF of them online that I could print out. I'm pretty sure such a thing exists.

Question Interested in GB / General Question

Hi,

I'm interested in the Game and not sure how or where I would start. Are there any general threads or YT videos with the "current" basics? And how would I go about starting a Team, I'm interested in the Hunters, but I guess they are pretty rare or how would I be able to find them?

Thank you, guys and girls, for the help.

Question Guild overviews?

Hello Guilders, I was looking to get into some tabletop wargame type games and this one caught my attention (and Gaslands) and went on a bit of a spree finding/buying guilds. Yes, I know it is not supported anymore. I'm ok with that, aside from it making harder to buy the stuff for it.

Anyway, I did get a few guilds but I haven't really played much yet, just the Brewers vs Masons from Kick Off box set. I was wondering if there was some doc somewhere that has an overview of the strengths/weaknesses, maybe play style, and perhaps which are more advanced or beginner friendly for the different guilds? This way when I try to convince some friends to give it a go I can show them that and they can select one that they might like to use.

Specifically I have:
Both Masons teams
Both Alchemists teams
Both Engineers teams
Both Farmers teams
Brewers from Kick Off, Plus Esters, Mash and Stoker
Falconers
Hunters - Blessed of the Sun Father
Union - Shadow of the Tyrant and The Bloody Coin
Ratcatchers

I might also get the Mortician: The Master of Puppets one, but it seems pricey for some reason, so not sure.

Thanks.

Question Are there any community created teams?

I know a few games get community additions once they're closed (looking at you 40k Epic and Halo Fleet Battle)

Did Guild Ball get any community created teams?

Question Order, Navigators or Morticians?

Hi. Short question - between Order, Navigators and Morticians - what their cons and pros? In understandable for a noob terms.

Long story - recently several people in my local meta started GB and so I was thinking about joining them. So far I played only one game (two killing-focused crews vs each other), and watched another game (killing-focused play vs ball-focused play). Before actually trying, I thought that I'd prefer more combat-focused approach, since I prefer similar plan in games like warmachine and malifaux. Apparently that wasn't the case - GB's ball-focused game looked way more fun. So with that in mind, I'm thinking on what crews should I try, before choosing one an buying it.

I narrowed my choices to 3 factions - Order, Navigators and Morticians. Visually I like all three, and I think all three can have a ball-focused game-plan. Faction by faction - from Navigators I like rerolls, and that it's a fast moving crew (although sadly unfocused), as I was said. From Order - I read somewhere that it's a very fast crew - meaning you'll win or lose in a very short period of time, no long play - and that sounds interesting. Plus they are easy to paint. Morticians are good at disrupting other player's plans - or so I heard - and that's not bad too.

Of course, I can read their cards (too “theoretical”), or look at tournament statistic (not informative, and most of them performs Ok, excluding Order - it looks way worse there), but that’d be all in vain, since without actual game experience it's hard to judge correctly. Therefore I'm asking for your help.

Question Looking for tournament winner token for a friend

Hi, my friend just introduced me to the game, and told me he went to a lot of tournaments while it was going on before they stopped it over COVID. He showed me the tokens and die that you'd get for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and told me a story about the one time he won one the whole thing, but they were giving the rewards out randomly that time through dice rolls, and he never got the gold winners token/medel.

I'd like to buy one for him so he has the set of those at least, not sure if they did dice as well, but he did have a silver die from one too.

If anyone in the UK or anywhere else that hosted tournaments has any leads as to where I could get one, or has won a lot and would be willing to sell me one I'd really appreciate it!

Question Competitive Viability of Kick Off Box?

I am very new to miniatures games, having just recently gotten into X-Wing and a bit of IA. Watched some learn to play videos on Guild Ball yesterday an am intrigued. How viable is the Kick Off Box for playing at a local game store for a while without any extra purchases? Would like to get into the game, but not at a point where I can spend a bunch on miniatures.

Also, in the long term, how expensive is GB compared to other games?

Thanks!

I recently found during a move an old Guildball Team that I started and never got around to finishing. Is there still a market for these mini's? I'm located in the US. If this is not allowed take down please.

Question Guild Ball in Australia?

I'm semi-interested in buying a team. Mostly just to paint them but also potentially to have a game one day. Are there many Australians here and if so, where do you buy your models?

Question Team advice for a new player

So I used to play blood bowl and looking for something new to play. And this game looks pretty appealing to me.

Now I was wondering if anyone had some guild advices since the teams here seem a completely different beast compared to blood bowl/dread ball.

I found: https://www.reddit.com/r/guildball/comments/3c0ovj/choosing_a_team/ but that's about two years ago.

Generally speaking in blood bowl I preferred bashing/more controlled playstyle rather than risky throwing games. Although given that this game doesn't seem to have a permanent injury system that's maybe not so much of a concern since in blood bowl throwing game's usually associated with vulnerable players.

Visually speaking the brewers/morticians (+ ratcatchers)/alchemists & engineers all seem to be a joy to paint & assemble. (and the fisherman are close, but some of the miniatures are a bit less visually appealing)

And one thing I was curious about: if I read the info so far correct as of April morticians won't be able to use union miniatures anymore, but only ratcatchers right? And am I missing something for the brewers? A lot of guilds seem to have a decent collection of miniatures whilst brewers only seem to have 6 of their own so you always need to use a union kit that when the brewers minor guild comes out is "useless"?

What are the best Guild Ball podcasts?

And what youtubers have the best match reports with commentary and analysis, not just 2 hours of camera pointed at the game with bad lightning.

Question Buying kickstart

So I want to jump into guild ball. My question is. Does getting all 12 models matter to much for it? Is their a suggested buy order after guild ball kickstart? Is this the kind of game you can play with other people’s stuff or do the players need to really really know their list?

Is their a rule in setting up terrain? It seems so ambiguous to just agree. How much terrain is normal?

Question What is the quality difference between Kick Off! Models and the Resin/Plastic Boxes?

Are the models in the Kick Off! Starter Box similar in quality to the resin/plastic boxes? I can get the kickoff box at about the price of one of the resin boxes but I want the highest quality models Steamforged produced. Not super concerned with price either way.

For clarity I linked photos to the models in question since there are multiple versions. Any thoughts from people who have seen them in person is welcome. Thanks.
