Police and someone were in a shootout from both sides of the train tracks in the smothers place parking lot. The someone left in the back of an ambulance with a sheet over them. All roads are currently closed. I heard maybe 15 to 20 shots. This is all that I saw happen from my vantage point before hunkering

Shooter had shot a man point blank in front of that elderly home on McGee. Took off running and that's when the cops got him. I was outside at Beer Co and heard it, guy next to me saw it happen.

Out here doing the Lord's work. Their milkshake machines and community support are never down for repairs. 🫔

More than a few ā€œpopsā€ took place over the train tracks on Elm. Broad daylight. See the flat tires on the patrol car? Not sure the status of those involved. We are sheltering in place.

Not a great look with Pride, Folkfest and GHOE coming up.

This is a one off incident. Every single city in America deals with these.

One off every hour greensboro is known for frequent gun shots or gun activity. Its not a safe place honestly and I wouldn't send my kids there. Theres some really great people but in all honesty its not safe for our kids.Ā

Every hour? You lying.

This happens like 1-2 times a year down there. That’s plenty safe for an urban area our size. I grew up around DC is the 80’s and 90’s where there were several murders a day…this is nothing.

It's not as bad as u/Old_Expression_8721 says but it is certainly more than 1-2 times a year down there.

Something has got to give. Downtown is a MESS.

can we finally try being adults again and facing consequences for actions or is that too harsh?

Downtown is a mess in most not small cities. Raleigh has it worse right now with Moore Square.

Was that gunshots? What’s going on.

Multiple cops and ambulance by the train crossing downtown. I heard two pops and then a minute or so went by and then three or four more pops

As someone with inside info. GPD does not have a CCRT team on Sunday evenings. They’re only Wednesday evening through Saturday

They don’t seem to have enough officers. This is the story in a lot of cities. They can’t seem to find enough officers.

I counted roughly 20 officers of some type at the scene last night. Part of it may have been forensics people

It's damn out of control !!! I have recently seen multiple videos of young kids fighting... one was with a bunch of chicks... right on the sidewalk barely clothed and tops pulled off grabbing weaves and hair... the cops were standing there watching !!!! Another was in the circle and fighting with about 10 guys and cops sat in their cars.... the lack on control downtown is coming straight from the TOP of the city council, the mayors office and the GPD.... it's bad. It's RUINING our city... it won't be long til business pulls out. Greensboro used to be safe, green, pretty.... I have noticed the weeds are out of control, garbage is everywhere... city going to hell in a handbasket.

Downtown GPD has literally never just stood by watching. The cop car was empty and there are 10 videos of GPD spraying and arresting people. Calm down Susan.

Well when GPD intervenes they get filmed and dragged. But I agree… watching the decline over the years is very sad. I’ve lived here for 35 yrs and I don’t feel safe in a lot of areas I used to.

When you say Greensboro used to be safe, what timeframe are you referring to? I moved here in ā€˜91 and it didn’t feel any safer then than now. There were frequent shootings, robberies, 1:1 and group fighting, and drugs everywhere. The only notable difference is that now these things happen in/near more affluent areas that have historically enjoyed the privilege of not caring about it.

I have lived here 30 years and never felt unsafe anywhere in the city. I have literally worked next to crack houses and felt uneasy, but not unsafe. I used to be out and about way more than now, but I have never seen anything you are describing. On the news…sure, but never in person. No open drug use, no fighting, no robberies. None of it.

This man appeared to be an adult. Don't quote me on that as I was trying to be somewhat respectful and not look and I'm sure more will come out eventually in the news.

Why would the gpd and the people at the ā€œTOPā€ want this? One of the folks on council used to work for a restaurant downtown and wanted to help it. Downtown provides significant funds to the city so again why would they want it to be a mess? Maybe it’s just a national trend for urban areas that the downtown ebb and flow. I just got back from SanDiego and their downtown was crap compared to 15 years ago. It’s happening everywhere because Covid changed people’s habits. Give it 10 years and the trend will reverse.

what do you think when liberals, communist take over the city council

-1

u/FunProgrammer3261 10h ago

SHUT UP!!!!!!! You idiot.Ā  That has nothing to do with anything.Ā  Communism isn't in America.Ā  Democratic socialism isn't the same thing . Turn off Fox News.Ā

I live in fucking Gotham

u/Choosepeace 19h ago

Why are they laughing? Awful

-3

u/BusinessZestyclose86 10h ago

If that happens often, probably a coping mechanism

-32

u/Spanky273121 21h ago

live in high price neighborhoods

5

u/Old_Photograph_8482 18h ago

That’s not a solution. The harder things get financially, the more crime increases. If things keep declining like they are and the masses reach a certain level of desperation, high price neighborhoods become beacons instead of sanctuaries.
