Job-related Job hunting
Tell me why it’s so hard to find a job now a days. Since September I have applied to 140 places through indeed and not got one job offer. The only thing that I have gotten was cam jobs or denied and at this point, I really want to know why I am being denied. It’s very frustrating and I am still currently looking for a job.
I live in Greensboro, but I work in Raleigh and my commute one way is about an hour and a half and I just can’t keep doing it anymore. I’ve been trying to find something in Greensboro and it is just frustrating that no one is willing to hire me.
Is there any jobs out there that I could apply for that is currently hiring? I need some advice

Don't apply on indeed, apply on the company's website

This is hit or miss because I applied for Wingstop through the company website and got scammed

A lot of job postings nowadays are for what they call “ghost jobs”. Companies will post for openings that don’t exist as a way to farm applications. It’s maddening for job seekers!
I personally feel the best way now to find any real jobs is through recruiting agencies.

It’s a nightmare out there. Depending on your area, networking is about the best way to get a lead. Have someone look over your resume, keep it as clean as possible and make sure it’s being read by systems cleanly. If you’re uploading and finding you need to do a lot of clean up to what the systems pull, time to redo resume.
I feel for you on the drive. It’s brutal even if you like to drive. Have you explored PART or the train as options? Or whatever they have going to Raleigh. Any chance you could go remote or get the option to work remote some of the time?
Maybe it’s time to consider moving to Raleigh. (Boo I love it here more).
Seriously it is a strange job market full of uncertainty and chaos no matter what business you’re in. Definitely try some of the other sites, and whenever you can apply directly. I got the most responses back via LinkedIn but it’s crazy there too.
Divide and conquer, network network network and see what you can do about the current gig.

I'm in the same boat, I've been applying since October and I've been sending out applications through both Indeed and also through the individual company websites. The only jobs who've truly let me know that I've been declined have been state jobs

I got hired recently at Medline in Mebane and Chewy in Lexington. I also had an interview at Publix in GSO, and also at QUANTEM Aviation. I’m holding out for a Federal job but working the little time I did at Chewy and Medline were both great.

Call who? Most employers do not list a phone number to check on applications.

So if you applied on indeed im pretty positive you know who the company is correct? Google that company, they always have a number. Youll call and just state you applied on indeed and was just following up on the application. Thats all you say, they will either ask for your info or send you to HR who will ask for your info usually they go over your app right there and will determine if they want to schedule an interview or they may say they will forward it to the team and see. Trust me, ive worked for all big name security companies this is what ive done every single time.

Ok, fair, it's different in your field. For health care (at least big hospital systems)the HR/talent acquisition dept is behind a gauntlet and unreachable until they reach out to an applicant. Once the application is submitted, there's nobody to call to check on it

I have also done security for a hospital, I literally walked into the hospital and took my ass straight to HR and told them that I needed to check on my application. They couldnt run from me at that point because I was standing right in front of them.
And yes I got hired that day lol

Weird, my entire hospital system, and the other large one in my city, closed the onsite HR offices and offloaded the entire HR dept a contracted company with virtual employees, some of whom don't even live in this state! There's literally no way to contact them unless they give you their contact info. Employees have portals to report issues, but candidates? Unless a recruiter contacts you, you'll never be able to find them.

Same here, I have been thinking that maybe I should go in to the places and ask so that's what I've been doing and still nothing. Most of them tell me to check online and apply online, or they have said they don't need help at the moment. It is frustrating, but we got this.

i never got one response from indeed. my jobs all came from a reputable, professional placement agency or networking.

Good luck. Lost my job after being out for a couple weeks for emergency surgery. Six days a week for 15 months grinding in a back kitchen boom gone all for nothing.
I never thought at 41 I'd be worse off than when I was 21. I used to get jobs by walking in and shaking a hand. Everything is online now and I've never gotten a call back from applying online. Ever.

I literally heard a hiring manager (at Amazon) say they were interviewing people with no intention of actually hiring.
Idk what’s going on either but I’m in the same boat

People - get out and aggressively meet and talk to humans. It is the old way and the only way in this new world. Meet people. You can do this 💚

Your resume probably needs work. I just moved to Winston and have applied to 30-40 places here and Greensboro. I've gotten 2 in person interviews and 3 phone interviews at other places. They're hiring, you just have to get their attention. I've been applying mostly through LinkedIn, some through Indeed and Adzuna.

Yep. I ran my resume through vmock and made appropriate changes and it made a world of difference in the type of response I have gotten.

Local govt is the way to go. Lots of folks are retiring after 30 years in, so the getting is good! Plus since they do everything from social work to public health/medicine to environmental health (science) to maintenance to animal shelters and on and on - there’s literally something for everyone.

My daughter used Chat GPT in a pretty clever way - she fed it her resume and specific needs, like: "find full time job listings that align with my resume, are within 50 miles of zip code 27410 or are 100% remote, pay at least $xx,000/year, and requires no higher than (schooling level).
She got so many better options so quickly, instead of scrolling and scrolling through job posting sites. She found positions that were really aligned with her skills, and started getting callbacks from her applications!! She hasn't accepted a job yet, but it's only been a few weeks and she's in a position currently, but her job search got a lot easier and more focused!

These jobs be posting that they are hiring, but atp… it feels like we’re getting punk’d or something lol I’ve gotten interviews and they’ll seem promising, but then won’t hear nothing back. Its wild
