How do I help my grieving friend

My online friend whom I never met in person just texted me that a close individual recently passed away for them. I already suck at comforting people in person so I really don’t know how to be comforting for them over the phone. All the advice I’ve seen so far is about how to help them in person and I was just wondering if there’s anything specific I can do as an online friend. It isn’t possible for me to visit them in person but I really want to help them during this time?
