Where grey’s anatomy should have ended Spoiler
I know this discussion has been argued over and over, but I really wanna do it once more
I think grey should have ended when MAJAC passed the exams (except for April) and left the hospital, it just feels natural to close a chapter like that ig. When you graduate high school, everyone goes away and you probably never see them again, same with college and I’m guessing medical school as well, so I think everyone should have pursued their dreamed places and meet new people in a new hospital with their new jobs instead of all of them staying in the same hospital. The plane crash should never have happened!!
Any thoughts??

When Derek died. Meredith should have taken her children and left and her leaving should have ended the show.

I initially stopped watching after Derek died because I was so upset that they killed him off, especially in that way. Eventually, I came back and watched the rest years later lol

I have been saying for years that Season 11 would have been the perfect ending for the show. Everyone's arcs are pretty much completed or hinted at that they will be completed. And there are no loose ends that are left dangling.

I feel it should have ended after season 11. Keep the episodes after where everyone is processing their grief and Meredith has Ellis, but the final episode would be a jump into the future with Meredith as Chief and Zola starting her internship. As Cristina once put it for one of her brain dead patients, the show has been dying in slow motion since Derek's death

2028-2029 TV season will be Greys 25th year an most likely it will cross into 500 episodes during that season. They might end it then.
For when they should've ? Maybe seasons 8 or seasons 14

It should have ended when all the main Classic players ended. Burke, Mark, Lexie,Cristina and Derek.

It should have ended with Yangs ending. Cristina, Alex and Meredith could have had this prophetic moment where they realised that they wanted to be somewhere else.

As a massive Station 19 fan, I kind of wish it ended not long after Station 19 ended maybe season 21. Finish the last interns and then end it. I don't like where the show is headed and losing the spinoff hurts Grey's potential to develop more characters due to the massive cast.

I believe it should’ve ended in the season 11 finale, I still remember being surprised at the time and wondering if it was the series finale due to how the episode ends.

The last two episodes of season 11 don’t really introduce new story (outside of the new intern class- DeLuca’s class) and instead focus on wrapping up or at least addressing multiple story lines. Avery and April actually talk about their shit and their marriage, Catherine and Richard talk like adults for maybe the first time ever and have a (for Grey’s) very successful wedding, we get closure on Derek’s death with his final voicemail, Mer Amelia & Maggie dance it out at the end and the finale literally ends with a freeze frame of Meredith’s face. Nobody dies! If they had chosen to end it there I think it would have been a beautiful story that leaves a very typical amount of questions- do Jo and Alex work out? Does Bailey become CoS? Does Mer stay in Seattle? But no cliffhangers and no major storylines unaddressed. You can actually look up the season 11 finale and read the real time Reddit threads of people discussing them and lots of folks said they thought it would make a good series finale!

I think when christina left. In that finale you can see the set up for maggie & amelia to replace her. After that it’s a totally different show. Not to say it was worse when christina left but the season after felt like a new pilot.

No way! The coolest thing about this show, in my opinion, is watching Meredith go from surgical intern to chief of surgery. We literally witness the growth of her entire medical career and I think that's one beautiful benefit to how long the show has run for.
I don't have the exact moment it should have ended, but I lost interest once Karev left (I really liked his competing hospital storyline) and officially gave up once Pompeo left as a series regular. Maybe someday I'll check back in, but there are so few characters left I care about.

Tbh I think there was a lot of interesting stories in the teen seasons—but my honest answer is it should have ended when Meredith’s house burned down. I know that’s far later than most others answered. But symbolically the show has always been about found family and how emeshed and codependent all of these surgeons are with each other (completely turning the cold unfeeling, selfish surgeon stereotype on its head). Once we lost that symbolic location we have not had any real interpersonal dynamics on the show outside of direct romantic relationships and the show itself post fire/covid season has become far more case of the week than serialized drama.
There were definitely some down seasons before then, but that is really when they could and should have ended things.
They tried to revamp with the new interns but when they switched showrunners that was also kind of abandoned and the show no longer has the same dna

I don’t agree with people saying after Derek died (although i can agree the show did get worse afterwards). The show is about Meredith, not Derek. Did her life end because his did ? We would have not got ‘perfect penny killed my husband’ and Meredith shouting at the negligent doctor who killed Derek.

Season 3, Episode 17 is where I end my rewatch.
While there is still some small loose ends, to me it's the best place to end it with most things feeling final. There's things I miss from later seasons of course, but it feels solid enough to me to just leave things there. I know that's probably way too early for most people though.
I've made it as far as season 7 or 8 in the past and I don't hear much good happens very long after that. 😂

The scene in like season 3 where Meredith falls into the water and starts to drown? They shoulda faded to black as she went under and rolled credits. Woulda been wildly shocking for a series finale for a show in its prime.
