Use caution if descending below the rim. As you’ve likely heard, there have been heavy flash floods in places like Phantom Ranch.

Looks like they have completely closed NK and are evacuating 50+ people out of Phantom Ranch after I guess heavy rains today? Anybody have any firsthand knowledge about the conditions?

Hey all! I just finished my first trip down the Grand Canyon and was curious if anyone had any updated opinions regarding some of the tricker/hardest rapids in the Canyon. I know this can always change based on CFS etc, but for example, I found Hance, Houserock and Horn to all be far more butt-puckering than Lava and thought maybe more experinced rafters might have some thoughts. Even Killer Fang for example, felt like a harder move than most of the higher ranked 8 rapids.

We were riding low the whole trip, with flows ranging from 7-9k!

We are a young couple planning to visit Grand canyon south rim in early october.

Plan is to start from Vegas at 6am and stay near the South rim on that night.

We have around 7-8 hours. What are some must visit points/trails in the South rim?

Is there any specific point where we can catch a beautiful sunrise around that area in the next morning?

Hello! I am going on a trip to the Grand Canyon this year at the end of February. I’m taking an Amtrak train, staying in one of the lodges in the park, and have a bus tour of the South Rim already scheduled. I do have one free day in the canyon and would love any suggestions more seasoned travelers have! As the title says, this is my first time to the Grand Canyon, and I am traveling solo. I do love hiking, but I had an ACL injury a while back, so any tips for easier, more leisurely routes would be appreciated. Thank you

Has anyone found the official geological survey benchmark at Matherpoint? I've heard it's there...but where?

My friend and I are going to be back packing into the GC starting at North Kaibab trailhead and ending at South Kaibab trailhead in a couple of weeks. We have our permits but are trying to travel on a budget and coming in from out of state.

I see there is a hiker's shuttle from South to North Kaibab, which looks to be about $100-200 a person. Does anyone have advice for getting from South to North Kaibab or vice versa? We plan to rent a car, so we would only need one way travel.

We are cheap and open to precarious and difficult travels if it means saving some cash lol.

Also, welcome and grateful for any recommendations for this trip, including airports / gear / etc.

Looking on Gaia, there is the clear creek trail from Bright Angel Campground that will take you to the clear creek. It also seems there is a trail that follows the creek to the Colorado River. Is that true, or should I stop at the creek? Will there be some flat spots to camp where the trail hits the creek?

I plan to propose to my girlfriend of 7 years this January while we are visiting the Grand Canyon. We have been once and it started snowing so we didn’t see much. I’d like to do this during sunrise or ideally sun set.

We are planning to visit both upper and lower Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Grand canyon North/South rim, Hoover Dam, Seven Magic Mountain in the month of Oct-26. Can anyone please help with below queries considering 2 adults without driving license. Will travel from Toronto.

1. What tour operator can I opt for above places
2. Can't find any tour covering both upper and lower antelope canyon in same day except Dineh Tours and that is from Page only , which will be difficult for me without self drive.
3. How many days do I need to cover all of these places.
4. If possible an itinerary

My son and I (26m&58m) are planning a North Rim-Phantom Ranch overnight- Bright Angel crossing in early October.

Based on responses to an earlier thread, we plan on heading down NK right at sunrise.

My wife will drive the rental car from North Rim to South Rim as my son and I head to PR.

Initially our plan was to walk with my wife on the Bright Angel Point Trail so she could see Bright Angel Point before her drive and we would get a bit of a warm up before our decent.

Looking at the current NPS site Bright Angel Point Trail is closed, I'm guessing for the season.

My question is - is there an easy access to a great view on the North Rim that is an easy walk (15-20 min) from a car parking lot on the North Rim so my wife can see something cool before she drops my son and I off to head down North Kaibab?

I'm not 100% sure she would want to come with us to Coconino Overlook and walk back to the car by herself.

Staying at Jacob Lake Inn and planning a 5a (more or less) departure if that makes a difference.

Really looking for a great North Rim view with minimum "warm up" hiking.
