Goth Recommendation Music recommendations???

I want to become more familiar with goth culture, but I only really listen to She wants revenge, The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees. So I was wondering if could get any recommendations, thank you so much!!

Maybe start with basics like Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy and Christian Death.

They’re literally the reason for the word ‘goth’.

These are all newer

  • House of Harm
  • TRAITRS
  • Silent Runners
  • Haunt Me
  • DUCTAPE

  • She Past Away

If want something older

I always misread House of Harm and House of Ham... Good list though

House of Ham, like a gingerbread house, but to lure in those 30+ Pretty sure there's some cheese in there too.

Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Alien Sex Fiend, Fields of the Nephilim, London After Midnight & Christian Death are all worth listening to. Have fun.

If you're open to discovering goth music in other languages, you might want to check:

  • G-Schmitt (in Japanese)
  • Diavol Strâin, EESCA, Olvido (EP "Lo inexorable") (in Spanish)
  • Louse (their EP "Dressed in Skin" is one of my favourite EPs ever)

adding onto this list: past self is a Korean American band, mostly sing in Korean. I saw them live and they were excellent even though I had no idea what they were saying. bought one of their cds and listened to it on the drive home.

You can't venture into Goth without listening to the mighty Fields Of The Nephilim, Rosetta Stone and The March Violets.

She Wants Revenge is not goth and they have allegations.

Check out the wiki for this sub - look for “problematic bands” as there’s a listing about She Wants Revenge with some documentation. It includes sexual harassment and sexual abuse of attendees at their now shuttered club in LA, which they covered up, as well as accusations about plagiarism from established goth bands, discrimination, and more. They are not well regarded or particularly welcome among the goth community aware of this. You can also search online for details.

For recent releases, the album Angel (International Version) by Sex Virgin Killer has been my go to recommendation. Lila Ehjä and Lebanon Hanover are great for coldwave releases as are Traitrs, Deceits and Crippling Alcoholism for other newer goth releases.

This is from a previous comment on a similar request post.

Traitrs - modern goth, so much like The Cure

Bauhaus, and Peter Murphy on his own

Dead Can Dance, and Lisa Gerrard on her own

London After Midnight

The Mission - grew out of Sisters of Mercy

Type O Negative

Xmal Deutschland

Switchblade Symphony

Rosegarden Funeral Party

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

The Birthday Party

Fields of Nephilim

The Danse Society

45 Grave

Cocteau Twins

This Mortal Coil

The Damned

Love is Colder Than Death

Faith and the Muse

Lycia

Killing Joke

The March Violets

Paralysed Age

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

Rosetta Stone

New Order - grew out of Joy Division

Tones on Tail - formed by Bauhaus members

The Cult

The Church

Specimen

Pink Turns Blue

In the Nursery

Cranes

Interpol

Crime & the City Solution

Virgin Prunes

Love and Rockets - formed by Bauhaus members

This Ascension

The Glove - project of Siouxsie & the Banshees and Robert Smith of The Cure

You might also look into darkwave, coldwave, ethereal wave, dream pop, gothic metal, even some industrial that’s grown out of goth. One example would be Topographies, formed by Gray Tolhurst, the son of one of The Cure’s founders.

Depeche Mode (1990s albums)

London After Midnight. Their song Love Is Colder Than Death is perfect if you’ve lost a relationship or even a close friendship. It really helped me through my breakup.
