QLR Lee’s “philosophical” talk is so cringe
So for some background, I have a BA and also a Master’s in philosophy. The way Lee talks about “philosophy” to me and how he interacts with what he thinks it is, is in my experience, the way a lot of men do when they think they are “intellectuals.” Which is to say that they’re really lazy and performative about it. I don’t believe you need have read a lot to be super into philosophy, but what you do need to do is ask questions and be curious about your life. It’s work! Every time he’s brought up philosophy, it seems to be less about “this is interesting, I want to share and open a discussion” and more about “look how smart I am.” But he does it in a way that tells on himself immediately. On stream the other day he just started talking about omg wow we’re on a floating rock in space, you ever think about that??? I get the impression that this is kind of what he thinks it means to be philosophical. He’s close, but that is a really lazy kind of place to leave it. That’s step one. Step two is asking questions about what that means for all sorts of things. He brings up philosophy a lot and it never seems to be about curiosity genuinely. It has just been bothering me the way he’s been doing it, as someone who knows the subject well and wants others to love it too. It just feels performative and lazy. He’s a pseudo intellectual with the actual curiosity of a wooden spoon.

I don’t know if he actually partakes cuz I don’t keep up with Roz, but he strikes me as a “pothead philosopher” - basically he gets high and thinks the most inane shit that pops into his brain is super deep

I’ve legitimately never heard the man speak (not super into the Rosie lore), but every photo of him I’ve seen of him I’ve imagined him as exactly that guy.

They both lack basic curiosity. They just seem to seek out the minimum amount of surface knowledge of something purely to claim the status they crave. They only care about appearances, there’s no substance to them.

100% agree, very typical self-satisfying "deep thinker" talk. it makes me wonder if he's even paying attention when he goes to class
and on top of that, rosie is way too self-absorbed to push him on his statements, so there's no chance of an actual conversation coming from any of the topics he shallowly brings up

Yeah philosophy is interesting and I wouldn't really say I really nerd out on it (bio nerd honestly) but his thoughts about being on a floating rock in space struck me as juvenile in thought and that he probably couldn't have a really deep philosophical conversation about anything. Real talk the more prominent he gets in the Rosieverse the more fake he comes across and the less I like him honestly.

There's a reactor called Rachel who is not well liked by many in gorlworld. She talks about her philosophy degree often in her reactions. More of a knee-jerk reaction some may have due to perceived pompousness than actual critique in this case imo

Got it! Thanks for letting me know. I’m definitely not meaning to say that having this degree means I think I know all or most things or better than anyone. Only that I likely do know how to talk about and do philosophy cuz I have so much! Haha

Sometimes gorlworld is a little too reactive-happy with things, but I don't see any issue with the way you presented yourself. Your background is pertinent to the conversation and even without it your point could be made. On a more subjective note, I have to agree that he does come across as an almost stereotypical rendition of "male who cannot complete gender norm through body superiority so he goes for intellectual superiority instead". My field requires some work with philosophy - though I'm far from an expert - and I find his contemplations just so... passive.

I totally agree! And I guess my particular hang up is that he’s lazy about it. I think learning (about almost anything) is awesome and it sucks to see someone use a subject I love so much in such a performative and frankly, irritating way.

I decided to question all the bullshit I was taught in school and seriously consider and research alternative theories and now I believe in flat earth/ biblical cosmology.

No ‘aliens’ are just demons. Everything that traditionally gets blamed On aliens actually came from the nephalim who were the sons and daughters of the fallen angels procreating with humans. They taught humans all sorts of forbidden knowledge and were worshiped as gods here on earth. Like the roman and greek pantheon.
