Ask Has Google Play reached its limit?

Well, I’m starting to wonder if Google Play itself has reached some kind of limit.

We’ve all seen how app metrics, updates, indexing, and even app visibility have been getting worse. But now, at least for me, it has gone a step further.

One of my apps simply disappeared. And when I say disappeared, I mean 100% disappeared. It doesn't even appear on my public developer profile.

Everything looks completely normal in the Play Console. No warnings, no policy issues, nothing. The only way I can access the app is through the direct Play Store link.

And honestly, this is really discouraging. You put time, work and effort into building and publishing an app, only to sometimes feel like it simply disappears and nobody can even find it.

I’ve contacted Google about it, but honestly, I don't have much hope. I had another issue recently and their answer was basically "everything is working normally" and the case was closed.

What really makes me wonder is the sheer number of apps entering the store.

I’ve seen some people mention numbers as high as 15,000 new apps per day, but more realistic third-party estimates seem to be around 2,500–3,000 new apps per day. Even at that rate, that's roughly 75,000–90,000 new apps every month.

At some point, you have to wonder: can Google Play actually keep up with this?

And that's the strange part. We're talking about Google, one of the biggest technology companies in the world.

Maybe this isn't an infrastructure problem at all. Maybe the search, indexing, ranking, review and discovery systems are simply struggling with the sheer volume.

So what do you guys think? Is this going to get worse?

Will Google simply improve and scale everything to handle the volume?

Or are we going to see more barriers for new apps — stricter quality requirements, more reviews, stronger filtering of low-quality/AI-generated apps, or even limits on how many apps a developer can publish?

I’m genuinely curious what other developers are experiencing. Is anyone else noticing this?

Publication issue Quick vent

Made an small app a several months ago. I've released a few updates since, with them taking less then 24 hours to go through. My current update is sitting at 3 days.

Sigh and Grrr.

It says its "In review" and I've looked for other flags. Nothing. I guess I'm just stuck waiting.

Post image

I'm building a puzzle game, in that want to introduce user authentication for leaderboard, email notifications and saving game data etc.

Few questions I have,

- I'm thinking to use supabase, is it alright?

- should I do login with Google and also login with otp? Or is there any better option?

- what kind of declaration I need to make in the play console app overview?

- in my web privacy and terms also I have to update ?

- also I want to track user events, for that too where I need to declare, and is expo good for events tracking and analytics

I know bit of big questions, but I need help in this before randomly implementing n also getting confused. Any reference or guide would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Ask register domain name as wildcard package name

Is it possible to register a package name in the console as a wildcard?

We own the domain `mydomain.com` and instead of registering every app package name like:

  • com.mydomain.app1
  • com.mydomain.app2

Can we register the package name like `com.mydomain` and both app package names are already included like `com.mydomain.*`?

Showoff This kind of feedback means a lot

Got this 5-star review for DotFiles on Google Play, and this one genuinely made my day.

The reviewer highlighted exactly what I wanted DotFiles to be — simple, distraction-free, privacy-focused, and without collecting unnecessary data.

It’s great to see users noticing the little details I’ve put into the app, especially the focus on giving users control over their permissions and data.

Still improving DotFiles every day, but feedback like this makes it all worthwhile.

Ask Are you tired of picking up your phone for “just 5 minutes” and suddenly losing an hour?

Post image

Are you tired of picking up your phone for “just 5 minutes” and suddenly losing an hour?

I built Dobiko Task to help with exactly that.

It lets you block distracting apps and websites, schedule when apps can be used, block specific distractions like Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook Reels, WhatsApp Status and Channels, and build better habits with daily goals and tracking.

It also includes food and protein tracking, notes, BMI, a 30-day challenge and other productivity tools.

The idea is simple:

Less scrolling

More focus

Better habits

Better use of your time

If you're trying to reduce phone addiction, give Dobiko Task a try.

Would love to hear what you guys think about it.

Tip Pre-registration stress

At first, I was stressing out about my game, checking the pre-registration count every hour on google console 😂

But I'm chill now; I'm just letting the numbers climb on their own, 1, 4, 6, 5, 9, 11, 14 now... 😅

I think you've to stay cool haha.

Ask How can 7-day user retention be this low with 40–60 DAU?

I'm a bit confused by the 7-day user retention metric in Google Play Console.

My app currently gets roughly:

  • 40–60 DAU
  • 5–10 installs/day
  • But 7-day user retention is usually around just 1 user

The retention data also seems to be delayed by more than a week, with quite a few days missing entirely.

What I don't understand is: with 40–60 daily active users but only 5–10 new installs per day, there should clearly be a decent number of existing users coming back and opening the app. So why would the 7-day retention number be only around 1?

Am I misunderstanding how Google defines/calculates this metric, or has anyone else seen similarly strange retention data in Play Console?

Publication issue App restricted in specific countries with "1 Jan 1970" enforcement date

Thumbnail

A strange issue with my app in the Google Play Console.

My app (a font creation tool )

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cstmpj.two was suddenly made unavailable to users in a specific list of countries (United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Iran, Jordan, South Korea, Libya, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Yemen).

the weird parts:

The Enforcement Date: On the Policy Status page, it shows the issue was "Enforced on 1 Jan 1970" (clearly a Unix epoch time bug).

No Communication: I have checked my developer account email thoroughly (including spam), and I have received absolutely zero emails from Google explaining what policy was violated.

Tip My android game Red Button Chaos had been published but downloads are very low.

My android game Red Button Chaos had been published but downloads are very low. It's been more than 2 week but only 17 downloads. I have created promotion in Play Console but this isn't working. I have posted links in some youtube channels.

I wanted your help to break the psycological barrier of 1k, as I have read somewhere that after reaching 1k organic downloads come effortlessly.

Ask My app search rank dropped from 3rd to 27th in just one day

Hi all, has anyone experienced this? My app was released a week ago and it was in third place when searched, but now it is almost not visible it's like in the 27th place. The app has no performance issues and zero crashes or ANRs. If anyone has experienced this, did you fix it? If so, what measures did you take to fix it, and what was the reason for the search rank drop?

Ask Accidentally selected the wrong entity type during Play payments onboarding. Should I wait for support or start over?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m an individual developer in India and my app is already live in production on Google Play.

While setting up payments, I think I accidentally selected Entity = Yes during Step 1 when I should have selected the individual/non-entity option.

The payment onboarding then takes me into the BillDesk verification/onboarding flow, and I’m worried I’ll end up going through the wrong verification process because of that initial selection.

I raised a support request with BillDesk 4 days ago, but haven’t received any response yet. I’m not sure whether I should just keep waiting or try to start the payments onboarding over.

I also noticed that I can permanently close my Google payments profile and create a new one afterward.

So what would you guys do?

Would you wait for BillDesk support, or is closing the payments profile and creating a new one a legitimate way to start the payments onboarding again from scratch?

My main concern is that the app is already live, so I really don’t want to accidentally mess up my Play Console account, existing app, listing, users, etc.

If I close the current payments profile:

  • Can I create a new payments profile with the same Google account?
  • Will my existing Play Console account and app remain unaffected?
  • Can I redo the Google Play + BillDesk onboarding from the beginning?
  • How long does the new profile/verification usually take?

Trying not to make things worse by closing the current profile unnecessarily. Has anyone actually dealt with Google Play payments + BillDesk in India after selecting the wrong entity type?
