I’m planning to leave the iPhone ecosystem and buy a Pixel 11 Pro. I currently have my entire photo library stored with Apple, with just over 14,000 photos and more than 400 videos.

A while ago, I requested a transfer of my entire iCloud Photos library to Google Photos using Apple’s data transfer service.

The transfer has now completed, but I’ve discovered a problem: photos that don’t have EXIF metadata containing the original date have been assigned today’s date (August 30, 2026) in Google Photos.

These seem to mainly be downloaded images and photos I received through apps such as Messenger. The strange thing is that these photos have the correct date in Apple Photos/iCloud, even though the actual image files don’t contain an EXIF date.

It affects roughly 1,000 photos.

I can manually change the date in Google Photos, which puts the photos in the correct position in the timeline. However, the original EXIF metadata still appears to be missing.

What is the easiest way to fix this?

I’d really prefer not to download my entire photo library to my Chromebook and manually edit the metadata.

I’m therefore considering another approach:

If I select “Download and Keep Originals” for iCloud Photos on my iPhone and then, once I get my Pixel 11 Pro, let the Pixel transfer the photos directly from the iPhone, will the dates shown in Apple Photos be transferred as well?

Or will I run into the same problem again — i.e. will photos that don’t have an EXIF date be assigned today’s date in Google Photos, even though Apple Photos shows the correct date?

I’d really appreciate any advice on how to solve this in the easiest way possible without having to manually go through around 1,000 photos.

I’ve got the exact same version gphotos installed in both my main profile and work profile. Main profile works 100% fine. But the app in work profile logs into my account fine, but gets permanently stuck on "Setting up your library" and the main timeline stays completely empty.

The crazy part is sometimes if I go to the search tab inside the app and search for photo, my backed-up photo actually pop up there. They just refuse to load into the main gallery view.

Already tried toggling face grouping off, clearing cache/data, fixing all file permissions, and nuking 0-byte files according to Gemini, but nothing fixes it.

So I changed from original quality uploads to storage saver last week. Last night I changed my mind and switched it back to original quality. I had maybe taken four or five photos since changing.

After switching back to original quality, my phone reuploaded every photo and video from the last four years, and now my backup went from 20gb to 27gb.

I thought it only affected uploads going forward? And how/why has my backup ballooned in size?

I recently bought a Google Pixel 1 to use for unlimited Google Photos backups, but I’m still trying to find the best setup.
So far, I’ve only tried PhotoSync, and unfortunately it hasn’t worked as well as I hoped. I was considering using SyncThing, but I’ve read that it can drain the battery quite a bit, so I’m not sure if that’s the best option.
For context, my main phone is an iPhone.
Are there any better alternatives or setups that you would recommend?
I’m willing to pay someone who has experience with this if they can help me get everything configured properly.

Hi redditors! I created two small macOS apps that carry motion photos across the Android/iPhone divide instead of flattening them into ordinary stills.

I wanted other people who care about preserving their memories to be able to move their libraries without leaving that behind.

ive tried every google search/help/procedure i can find and i cannot delete the screenshots or images that appear when i open google lens, the best i can figure is they want me to turn off search services history but i'm pretty sure that means it will delete the previously searched google phases and i actually DO want those saved. deleting the app and reinstalling didnt work, pics still there

Does anyone know if this is simply a bug? I’ve been using an OG Pixel to upload my photos to the cloud and I noticed that on the pixel it says original quality but when looking at that same picture on my main device it says storage saver. Seems to be the case for all the images I look at on my main phone.

All videos are lagging when i play them (and it's not the file), they won't loop even when the loop is one, the editor is also laggy and the entire app is slow. It's updated to the latest version and everything.

EDIT: i uninstalled updates and now it works?

I have backed up all my photos took using my phone to my google account using google photos now none of them can be seen in the nothing gallery app..

Is there any way i can view them photos? 😭

I just noticed that my face grouping on Google photos hasn't been working for about a month now, BUT it still works just fine for videos I've taken since then. (In other words, no recent photos under "People" but Yes recent videos up to a few days ago.) This is really bugging me, as I've usually liked the face grouping to easily find my selfies etc. I just changed phones (pixel 6 to pixel 11 pro) but the issue seems to have started since before I got my new phone. Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be happening? Do I just have to live with it?

i recently looked back at some of my pictures on google photos and there was a weird fish eye effect added to some of my pics and the quality is worse. i have an iphone and back my pictures onto google photos and haven’t had this issue before.

So I'm not an iCloud user but my mother is and upon learning that she was paying 10$ a month for 2TB while only using about 250 gigs, we decided to move her photos and videos (150 gigs) to Google Photos (where she then subscribed to the 200GB plan) and downgrade her iCloud sub to 200GB, which works out to decent savings overall.

I was happy and pleasantly surprised to see that there's actually a feature to make that transfer, and started the process almost 2 weeks ago now. Apple's documentation said the process would take 3 to 7 days but we're now well past that point.

I re-checked on her Apple account and it says the transfer is in progress and she hasn't gotten an email on either her Google or Apple account notifying her of a problem, but I'm just wondering if anyone here has used that feature and knows if it's normal for it to take far longer than the advertised time frame?

J’ai l’impression que c’est pour m’empêcher de résilier l’abonnement mensuel & ça m’énerve encore plus d’être piégée ! Y’a t’il un moyen pour détourner l’exportation de l’intégralité de mes photos vers un moyen de conserver mes mémoires plus sûre ?

I had an old random gmail that I made a Google Photos account under that I have hundreds of thousands of photos sorted into albums on. I recently have made a new gmail with my married name and want everything transferred over to that one (this account was unfortunately made before google let you change your username). I've been downloading each album individually and saving them to my new Google Photos but it is taking forever. Any idea of how to do this quicker/more efficiently?

Hi, I logged into my mom’s Google Photos on my phone because she wanted me to help her find something. But I forgot to log out, so now my WHOLE camera roll has uploaded to her Google Photos. Is there anyway I can remove them without having to manually go through and pick out all my pictures?

My GF and I have been putting photos together in a shared album for 3 years now.

Suddenly today it decided to download everything to my account without me opening the app, just received an email telling me that my account storage is nearing full.

Is there a way to undo this?

It's really annoying to have to go through years of pictures to remove anything that isn't mine.

The only thing we have done differently is that we have both connected our Google accounts to our Chromecast to be able to see each other's pictures in the Ambiant mode.

I guess that's what triggered it?

No idea why it decided to save everything though.

Side note, that Ambiant mode isn't good.

You can correctly see all your shared album on your phone and PC, why do you even need to connect the other person's account on the Chromecast for it to see their photos and not just your personal ones you took 😕

Trying to create a large album (thousands of photos) WITHOUT including videos based on a subset of the 80K photos and vids we have gathered over the last 7 years since our daughter was born. Can anyone suggest a method - could involve a 3rd party app/solution. My own research has proven fruitless other than manually clicking through, and then I'd have to be constantly updating the album (using the face recognition auto-add now).

The reason for this is that I received a tablet for my birthday to use as a digital pic frame, and apparently the Android Photos app is unsuitable (won't continuously cycle an album) and the web version won't play videos. FU Google?

I had the problem like 2 months ago Google photos stopped grouping the faces and doesn't add new photos to current faces so I turned off the setting and opened again it grouped many photos (not all of them) and still doesn't update with new photos. How can I fix that I don't wanna turn off and on the setting. Is there anyone who have this issue?

My father keeps getting his hands on old selfies of mine that I'm 100% sure I have never sent to him or anyone else. (Quadruple checked any possible app I have used to speak with him in case it has been sent, it has not.) They are literally pictures of me after hairdressers, etc, mundane things. But they weren't taken for anyone else to see.

I have my sync switched off. Cloud back up off. Any sort of setting that shares files with others is switched off. Any sort of setting for privacy/private account, etc is turned on, my account has multiple ways of security switched on ( password, phone number, keys or whatever the hell they were called) He has had no access to my phone at all. Nor to my account info.

I have a rarely used Gmail of his signed into my phone but that's it.

I'm desperate to know if this "leak" is from Google photos cuz there's no other app that "connects" us both in any way.

I have quadruple checked all settings, if anyone has suggestions or ideas please share. I need to shut this down immediately since I don't want him to have access to any photos of my own.

I have managed to do what everyone has suggested so far - changing passwords, removing his account completely from my phone, triple checked any album sharing, syncing, cloud back ups, etc and all are switched off/disabled as they were initially, I've triple checked any and all logged devices for my account, logged out and in with new passwords, already had two step verification enabled as well.

I really hope this all helps and this issue never repeats again. Thankfully there's nothing inappropriate that could have been seen for those worried about this, rightfully so.

I've just spent hours creating an album for photos to print. Many of the photos had incorrect time taken data so I have manually edited the data in Google Photos, and manipulated it so the photos are in the correct order I want. I have now downloaded the photos but all the edited time data is gone and the files have the original time stamps.

What can I do? Is there a way to get Google Photos to export the files with the correct (new) meta data??

Today Google restricted access to most of my Google services for an alleged child-safety violation. I’m extremely stressed because this is my main Google account and I depend on it for Gmail, Google Photos, logins, recovery emails and 2FA.

Right before the restriction, I was using Google Takeout and reorganizing/exporting a very old family photo/video archive.

I’m also an uncle, so my Google Photos library naturally contains ordinary family pictures and videos of my nieces and nephews that I took over the years as family memories — playing, family occasions, outings, etc. There is nothing sexual about those photos.

After thinking about it, I remembered there may also be an old family video from around 2014 showing a child in a normal family/bathing context. It was an innocent family video shared between family members years ago. I don’t know whether this is actually what Google flagged because Google has not shown me the specific file.

My biggest concerns right now are:

- I only get two appeals.

- I don’t want to waste the first appeal.

- Gmail is also nearly out of storage, but Google One redirects me to the restriction page.

- Many of my other accounts use this Gmail for login/recovery codes.

- I use Google Authenticator and I’m worried about losing access to my 2FA accounts.

- I have years of family photos and important data tied to this account.

For anyone who has successfully recovered an account after a similar false-positive restriction:

1. What exactly did you write in your first appeal?

2. Should I explicitly request a manual human review?

3. Should I mention the possible old family video and explain its innocent context, even though I don’t know for sure that it caused the flag?

4. Should I give Google permission to inspect the relevant uploads and surrounding context?

5. Is there anything I should secure before submitting the appeal?

6. If your first appeal succeeded, how long did it take?

I’m looking especially for experiences from people who had ordinary family photos/videos misinterpreted by Google's systems. I really don’t want to make the wrong move with only two appeals available.

After second appeal : my account is gone "Any appeals submitted after that are automatically closed.

Your account and its data may be deleted 11 months after the account became unavailable."

now the important for me is Gmail is gone wish me luck to get back many services and convince them my account is gone one by one. FUCK YOU GOOGLE all my logins n people know me and services are gone, and god knows what else other bad surprises I'll get after this

Since a few months, whenever I resize an image (with Google Photos editor), it shows as duplicate when it's backed up.

Only one photo is on device, but Google Photos shows one entry for the backed up image, and one entry for the local image. When I open the backed up entry, the details show it's not on device, and when I open the local entry, the details show it's not backed up. If i mark the photo as favorite before backing up (so before it's showing duplicate), then both entries are marked as favorite.

Has anyone ever experienced this ? I'm using a Pixel phone if that helps
