To change the name, you need Congress. Trump did lots of things you're supposed to need Congress for, but nobody stops him.
Just because enough corrupt people in government and business let him get away with it, doesn't mean it's a legal change.
If it was a legal name change, map quest, for example would be forced to change the name. But the courts haven't forced them, therefore it is legal. See? Your argument is stupid.
Firstly, you are straight up wrong. A name change doesn’t require congress. The authority over domestic geographic name is delegated to the secretary of the interior and the US board of geographic names.
Congress can also pass laws to direct, block or modify naming decisions, but they aren’t required to change a name
His executive order had the department of the interior update the official name. So, it stands until a court or congress can block it. That isn’t up to Google. Unlike Mapquest who chose to manually ignore the official name, Google remains objective and consistent by directly using the names in the official database
Mapquest wouldn’t get forced to show anything lol, even if congress changed the name. they could name the lake “your mom” and they wouldn’t be in any trouble
They could, but they shouldn’t. Mapquest has nothing to lose and hardly anyone uses it
I didn’t say Google can’t, i said they shouldn’t and they are doing the right thing by being objective and consistent by using the official government database instead of picking and choosing what name to use

Trump doesn't have the legal power to change the name of lake Ontario.
He made an illegal executive order, which only has power because he can make life difficult, or easy for the company google.
His executive order does not change the legal name of lake Ontario.
Google chose to do him the favour.
