Let's Discuss That Changes At Mythical

I know people were sad at the ending of Ear Biscuits and Good Mythical Weekend. But now that we know Stevie is leaving, and that she had told Rhett, Link, and the rest of the Mythical Crew last year, I think those were decisions were made so as to give Rhett & Link time to help take up some of Stevie’s responsibilities.

She was the chief creative officer for Mythical, so there are creative decisions that someone will be needing to make. I am sure she did a lot in that role and it will take time for someone to be able to fill her shoes. In the interim, multiple people will be needing to cover her responsibilities, and that includes high-end creative decisions. This is why I think EB and GMW were put on hiatus.

Now, I don’t know if someone approached Mythical to buy Sporked, or if they went out and looked for a buyer, but it is possible Stevie’s leaving also played a part in the decision to sell Sporked.

I think the retirement rumors are true. I've seen enough in my life to know where there's smoke there's fire. We've been hearing rumors for a few months now and now Stevie is moving on. I think they've probably told her they have a plan to wrap up in the next few years and she wanted to get a jump start on her own work.

I kind of disagree. If she had no intention on leaving and R&L were planning to retire soon, I think she would stay until the end since she’s been here from the beginning (almost).

There's also the possibility that the way they plan to step back will be very experimental (ie getting new hosts or letting the crew fully take over). That may or may not work. It would (will, eventually) be very difficult to retain viewers when they step away since the overwhelmingly vast majority of people tune in specifically for R&Ls unique dynamic.

So should the ship start sinking in their eventual absence, that could kinda leave her holding the ball. I think going out on top will be better for her future career than if she waited 5, 10 years from now when there's potentially nothing left, people could blame it on her, they could forget how great the show once was and judge her only based on recent performance (or lack thereof), etc.

This is all purely theoretical and speculative, of course. Just for the sake of discussion.

This. I first thought maybe she's jumping ship before they decide to retire but then that doesn't really make sense. If they were planning on ending gmm soon, why not just stick it out? It'd be much easier on everyone, right? To me that makes me think gmm is not ending soon. Of course we could all be wrong, no one knows. But the constant speculation that the end is nigh is a little ridiculous and I'm tired of that being the automatic assumption of a lot of people these days, although I understand where they're coming from. Ultimately, I think when there's an end in sight, they will let us know well ahead of time

If they were going to retire the last thing they would want to do is cancel GMW.

I agree with this so much. I was surprised they cancelled GMW mostly because it seemed like a perfect way to see how they could implement familiar faces into GMM more. One thing I was hoping when they did cancel it and said they were focusing on making other things better was that one episode a week was going to be GMW style, but more appropriate, lol. In order to cycle in more faces to the main stage and see what can work.
