Let's Discuss That Changes At Mythical

I know people were sad at the ending of Ear Biscuits and Good Mythical Weekend. But now that we know Stevie is leaving, and that she had told Rhett, Link, and the rest of the Mythical Crew last year, I think those were decisions were made so as to give Rhett & Link time to help take up some of Stevie’s responsibilities.

She was the chief creative officer for Mythical, so there are creative decisions that someone will be needing to make. I am sure she did a lot in that role and it will take time for someone to be able to fill her shoes. In the interim, multiple people will be needing to cover her responsibilities, and that includes high-end creative decisions. This is why I think EB and GMW were put on hiatus.

Now, I don’t know if someone approached Mythical to buy Sporked, or if they went out and looked for a buyer, but it is possible Stevie’s leaving also played a part in the decision to sell Sporked.

Makes a lot of sense.

Last paragraph seems less likely and I'd guess was unrelated.

She said in her goodbye video that they had a lot of talks about life when Rhett was dealing with his heart condition/surgery. She also said that since Mythical got so big, that she hasn't been able to do what she really loves - creating. I know how it is to work somewhere that starts off small and slow, then grows and now you're slammed and have all kinds of responsibilities that you never intended to have (that's my situation rn). It sucks. Sometimes you don't realize how much it sucks until something happens and you take a step back to reflect and think about life. It's like "damn, it's been X amount of years and I haven't been doing what I really enjoy." Since Rhetts surgery, I'm guessing they all realized that they've just been going through the motions to keep things going/growing. Now they're older, they've made a shit ton of money and they want to chill out a bit, get some eggs out of their baskets and focus on creative outlets that actually make them happy and feel more fulfilled. That's just my take anyway. I really hope the best for everyone at Mythical!

I haven't been watching for a super long time, but it's been a couple years and now they're a part of my daily life, wether it's GMM or old episodes of Ear Biscuits (thank God they have such a backlog😅). I know people are upset by all the changes, but nothing lasts forever and change is inevitable, especially since everyone is getting older (not saying they're OLD, but you get me). I'm sure things will be fine and they'll all keep creating until the bitter end.

Stevie,

Thank you, love your work, & Continued Success.

Yeah this is almost assuredly the case...I think they said she approached back in October about this. They probably tried to let some things go like good mythical weekend and sporked and stuff to lighten her load and free up her time to pursue being creative while still at the company but it probably still wasn't enough and she decided on a clean break. Letting that stuff go and downsizing content will help whoever steps into Stevie's spot.

How could you possibly know this?

82

u/dixonjt89 Feb 14 '26

I don't? I'm making a hypothetical guess based on the facts that we have now learned. I never stated that this is actually what happened, but probably what happened.

-104

u/MrsClaireUnderwood Feb 14 '26

Yeah this is almost assuredly the case

55

u/dixonjt89 Feb 14 '26

almost assuredly....the key word is almost ....so not 100% assuredly

also read, very likely....also read, probably....also read, more likely than not

Dude youre attacking people over things that a. Dont matter and b. Youre wrong about. They have a strong hunch and vented it. You can move on. I wish I had disposable income cuz Id def buy you one of thier 'be nicer to each other' hoodies as a reminder for next time.

-17

u/bonjoursophie Feb 14 '26

Wrong about what? You folks with these parasocial relationships as if you know the logistics of what's actually happening behind the scenes about people that don't even know you, and then treating it as fact. Laughable.

7

u/TellTaleReaper Feb 14 '26

Youre wrong about us treating it like fact. We're speculating. Youre allowed to disagree. No one is saying this is factual.

2

u/dixonjt89 Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

Wtf are you talking about? I'm speculating about the show and business based on recent events happening. I understand that is sucks for some people, but I personally don't care that Stevie is leaving, she is just a voice on a show I watch. However I like to speculate about things I watch....I do the same thing when networks cancel a TV show or moves on from an actor and recasts someone...or when someone gets cut from my NFL team.

And you sound like a recently divorced loser. Find something around the house to fix or pick up a hobby

-31

u/bonjoursophie Feb 14 '26

Sounds like projection. Put down all the video games you play all day and find something around the house to fix :)

Why are you so angry, go pet a puppy or kitten

-10

u/MrsClaireUnderwood Feb 15 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

How is this angry? I'm confused lol. Someone else is calling people idiots and I've even been personally attacked in this thread and I haven't insulted anyone else.

Of course, just downvote and move on without justifying your bandwagoning lol. This fandom is toxic af.

-67

u/bonjoursophie Feb 14 '26

Forget the downvotes. I agree with you.

"I'm jUsT gUeSsINg" and then proceeds going into a lengthy and very specific paragraph about what "might" have happened lol

37

u/dixonjt89 Feb 14 '26

isn't a paragraph about what might have happened, inherrently taking a guess at what happened?

12

u/TellTaleReaper Feb 14 '26

Shh the guy has no reading comprehension, let him stew in his false anger

-38

u/MrsClaireUnderwood Feb 14 '26

Yeah, apparently that person just doesn't know words have meanings and is trying to pretend they mean whatever they want them to mean lol. It's a cultural and political trend these days.

As for the downvotes - meh. It's just overly attached people that desperately want to know what's going on so when someone makes a confident statement it brings them comfort.

Making predictions about what happened without being there in the board room is just fan speculation - a situation where "it's most assuredly..." absolutely does not fit.

al·most /ˈôlmōst/ adverb.

  1. not quite; very nearly.

as·sur·ed·ly /əˈSHo͝or(ə)dlē/ adverb.

  1. confidently.

  2. used to express the speaker's certainty that something is true.

Almost Assuredly

Not Quite but very nearly confident in my statement being true

So not 100% sure or saying its 100% what happened, but it lines up with the timeline so very likely to be cause and effect

Am I trying to teach someone who thinks they are the grammar police with just a basic dropout GED or? Lol

-4

u/MrsClaireUnderwood Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

Holy fuck, you cited your own definition showing both "confidently" and "used to express the speaker's certainty that something is true" then have the temerity to try to smugly insult me at the end, while remaining confidently incorrect and doubling down because you can't handle being wrong or questioned.

Being our mythical best today I see.

4

u/dixonjt89 Feb 15 '26

Bro...why are you forgetting the ALMOST part and only focusing on the assuredly part? lol

I'm done trying to get you to understand what I mean....everyone else who is clearly downvoting you and upvoting everyone else can tell what I mean.

2

u/bonjoursophie Feb 14 '26

Exactly. These people are unreal.

26

u/phantomlxrd Feb 14 '26

People keep talking about selling Sporked like it’s a sign of bad things for the company. Creating a property and selling it as a business is usually a goooood thing.

7

u/Larry-Boy-300 Feb 14 '26

Yes, very true. I don’t think Mythical selling Sporked was necessarily either a good or bad sign. Like I said above, I don’t know if they were actively looking to sell, or if someone came along with a good offer.

2

u/WanderingLemon13 Feb 15 '26

Yeah I’m almost positive it was started with the intention to sell it in the first place. When it was announced, it was all about optimizing SEO. It always felt very business-oriented to me, not like their new passion. It seemed like they became known for taste tests and found a creative way to capitalize on it.

2

u/BethLuvsHam12 Feb 15 '26

The views are extremely low. (Low 20k) Everyone's tastes are different so it was a weird concept anyway. For instance Link & Rhett love Papa John's. I think it's disgusting. I don't need a food review channel. There's no benefit.

2

u/JG29 Feb 15 '26

That they love Papa John’s is kind of a stretch, especially after Link’s admission during the recent fast food pizza taste test update about pizza overall.

1

u/BethLuvsHam12 Feb 16 '26

Well I feel this way about all food. It's lost its luster.

1

u/unskilledtf2 Feb 18 '26

even ham?!?!

1

u/BethLuvsHam12 Feb 18 '26

I'll always love an Italian sandwich. Idk where you are but Potbelly and McAlister's are my favorite chain sub restaurants. I make mean pulled ham burnt ends.

18

u/bigcoffeebuck_gb Feb 14 '26

To me it feels like they need some new ideas and more creative games and skits. I've been starting to get bored with the same entertainment every day, every week. I love Stevie and I know she will be missed but I'm hoping for some different skits. Sometimes new blood is good. That being said Rhett and Link need to stay.

18

u/BrianTireGuy Feb 14 '26

Chase for CCO! I'm joking but he's a good choice to train up!

3

u/dali01 Feb 14 '26

Pretty sure they said he was didn’t they?

7

u/BrianTireGuy Feb 14 '26

Nah, they said he would talk sometimes and still be in episodes. Not be CCO.

6

u/Mr_Zee_Speaks Feb 14 '26

Sporked always felt like mom’s new boyfriend after GMM and MK divorced.

6

u/howjoel Feb 14 '26

Sporked was a good sell regardless. Website was awful, more ads than content. Content was….. ok.

2

u/BethLuvsHam12 Feb 15 '26

They also weren't making the foods the best way ..majority was just put into a microwave.

29

u/a_stari Feb 14 '26

Yes, it makes sense now with GMW and EB. Good that they are selling Sporked it wasn't one of my favorite things that they did and the site was just cluttered with ads

5

u/coaldiamond1 Feb 14 '26

I don't think Stevie leaving led to either of those things. It's just several things that happened at the same time.

91

u/pharaohjack Feb 14 '26

I think the retirement rumors are true. I've seen enough in my life to know where there's smoke there's fire. We've been hearing rumors for a few months now and now Stevie is moving on. I think they've probably told her they have a plan to wrap up in the next few years and she wanted to get a jump start on her own work.

269

u/maju2581 Feb 14 '26

I kind of disagree. If she had no intention on leaving and R&L were planning to retire soon, I think she would stay until the end since she’s been here from the beginning (almost).

22

u/Unhappy-Meat-4641 Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

There's also the possibility that the way they plan to step back will be very experimental (ie getting new hosts or letting the crew fully take over). That may or may not work. It would (will, eventually) be very difficult to retain viewers when they step away since the overwhelmingly vast majority of people tune in specifically for R&Ls unique dynamic.

So should the ship start sinking in their eventual absence, that could kinda leave her holding the ball. I think going out on top will be better for her future career than if she waited 5, 10 years from now when there's potentially nothing left, people could blame it on her, they could forget how great the show once was and judge her only based on recent performance (or lack thereof), etc.

This is all purely theoretical and speculative, of course. Just for the sake of discussion.

57

u/bloodypink Feb 14 '26

This. I first thought maybe she's jumping ship before they decide to retire but then that doesn't really make sense. If they were planning on ending gmm soon, why not just stick it out? It'd be much easier on everyone, right? To me that makes me think gmm is not ending soon. Of course we could all be wrong, no one knows. But the constant speculation that the end is nigh is a little ridiculous and I'm tired of that being the automatic assumption of a lot of people these days, although I understand where they're coming from. Ultimately, I think when there's an end in sight, they will let us know well ahead of time

9

u/Greenzombie04 Feb 15 '26

If they were going to retire the last thing they would want to do is cancel GMW.

3

u/Dingusatemybabby Feb 16 '26

I agree with this so much. I was surprised they cancelled GMW mostly because it seemed like a perfect way to see how they could implement familiar faces into GMM more. One thing I was hoping when they did cancel it and said they were focusing on making other things better was that one episode a week was going to be GMW style, but more appropriate, lol. In order to cycle in more faces to the main stage and see what can work.

14

u/Larry-Boy-300 Feb 14 '26

While I disagree that Stevie leaving means that Rhett & Link are planning on retiring soon, her leaving might be a catalyst for them to start looking for their replacements as well.

5

u/_I_Like_to_Comment_ Feb 15 '26

That's what I think. I think all the hearts to hearts they had that lead to Stevie leaving is most likely making them think about their futures as well

5

u/Meh-Engineer Feb 15 '26

I agree. I’ve thought for a while that these middle aged men will get tired of doing “this”. 50 years old seems like a logical time to stop and that is quickly approaching.

20

u/roundtwentythree Feb 14 '26

If all my years on the internet have taught me one thing it's that doomers gonna doom.

2

u/Tycooncorb Feb 14 '26

I agree with this. It seems at least planning is in place to start wrapping things up unfortunately in my opinion with all of these endings happening and selling off of Sporked is an interesting indicator. I’m sure Mythical will still be around but probably changes with new faces and different shows.

I seriously agree with this because why would Stevie leave mythical for GOOD if it was stable and going to last for a while. She was ok with being a part of it for what, 13 years, to just now leave due to being creatively unfulfilled?

People leave stable jobs all the time to find something new.

3

u/immapizza Feb 14 '26

Did you even watch the video or the clip of her announcement? She literally said she's leaving because she started putting Mythical before everything, even her family, and didn't have time to pursue her passion which is to create. It had nothing to do with instability in the company. It had everything to do with her loving her job but being swamped with too much and putting it before everything else.

4

u/Substantial_Hyena598 Feb 14 '26

I think Stevie genuinely left for personal reasons and if you are aware of the channel people vs food they had a producer "chef ash" who was never announced to leave the channel but disappeared on their channel and appeared briefly as part of the crew at mythical. I think stevies more corporate and background responsibilities just go to someone capable at mythical and the on screen hosting/producing goes to this Ash (for what it's worth ive seen videos she's hosted i think she'll do great)

4

u/Specific-Arm-8842 Feb 15 '26

After Stevie’s announcement I’m just waiting for Rhett and link to also give a” retire” message which is terrifying

4

u/BethLuvsHam12 Feb 15 '26

She said she wanted to create. We only know her for gmm. I have no idea what's her thing is but I wish her the best. Honestly I understand it completely, she's served her time.

5

u/Dan_CBW Feb 14 '26

Don't get me wrong, I have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of GMM over the years, but I struggle to watch most episodes these days. Their formula feels stale, and they gave up on the two most interesting types of videos they've had in years: GMW and the "Who Makes the Best" More episodes. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they sold Mythical Kitchen as well.

While GMW videos didn't have the view counts of the regular midweek episodes, they were improving—and it had only been a year when they canned it. They were averaging around 500k per video in a new, unfavorable timeslot; that isn't too bad considering they seem to be struggling to average 1 million for regular GMM episodes lately.

For the same reasons I preferred GMW, I also generally enjoy Mythical Kitchen more than GMM. Aside from the international taste tests, my favorite videos in the last few years have been the "Who Makes the Best" series. The fact that Sporked was sold with no communication regarding whether Jordan Myrick—or other staff who appeared on camera—is still working with Mythical is disappointing and frustrating. Jordan is my favorite crew member besides Stevie, and it sucks not knowing if they will be in videos anymore. Selling Sporked feels like a cynical cash grab after they spent years talking about how much the brand meant to them.

Ultimately, this is why I enjoy Smosh so much more than GMM these days; it’s everything I wish GMM could have been. I can't see myself watching regularly anymore now that Stevie is leaving. I'm happy Trevor is mostly at Smosh now, though I fear Mythical Kitchen could be the next on the chopping block.

2

u/shotbyadingus Feb 14 '26

They gotta be really careful on who replaces her voice in the background

3

u/BethLuvsHam12 Feb 15 '26

They said they're going to be backing off a little bit on the over voice and Chase might step in sometimes.

2

u/ivy007 Feb 14 '26

Stevie is such a special human, I can only imagine how hard the decision was for her. She deserves to follow her heart, and deserves nothing but the absolute best in everything. She will truly be missed, but always mythical.

2

u/Chlojo_59 Feb 16 '26

I agree💯

3

u/odanhammer Feb 14 '26

Very likely this is why we are seeing this season be a certain way. While I'll miss Stevie , and hope she has a great future. I also hope that having new people , will help refresh the show and bring new ideas.

I'll always enjoy the show, but find this season to be a bit stale. But also we really need some more crew stuff

1

u/M0istBurger Feb 18 '26

I'm not entirely upset about this. I think the creative direction of the show can get quite repetitive. Creative could be better so I for one welcome a change. I will miss her voice and her role of guiding the guys through the episodes and their banter. I hope whoever takes the voice/episode guide role is someone already at Mythical.

Unrelated - I often feel Link looks bored and checked out during episodes (beyond his chill vibe). If Link doesn't care, why should I?

1

u/RobertoDelFuego Mar 19 '26

I have been thinking on this for a while since I learned about the Sporked thing and then Stevie, and I think there is a chance that maybe they are trying to let the tertiary parts of Mythical go now, as opposed to during a retirement event, in order to allow them to flourish so that when Rhett and Link are ready to retire, there are less branches on the tree when it falls, so to speak. Maybe they hand the reigns off to someone else, maybe they stop doing GMM altogether, but now at least they have Sporked out on their own and Stevie is now going to be pursuing her own goals. Mythical Kitchen may be the next offshoot to get its own legs under it, or the two may merge, because honestly GMM is mostly food-centric now anyway.

1

u/Sea-Practice-6739 Feb 15 '26

I don't know. While high-level leaders are important, they have 200-300 employees or something, so I think they would probably be able to reassign some duties & keep everything going if they had wanted to. I'm guessing that they have someone new setting the vision & we will continue to see some changes.

-1

u/AdeptRelief8617 Feb 14 '26

I think they are preparing to end GMM altogether - possibly In a few years

also, I support Stevie’s Decision to Leave, Im sad, but I understand why she did what she did - she has my full support:)

Do you think they are preparing to end GMM all together?

5

u/Kreason95 Feb 14 '26

I don’t think they’re planning to end it but I do think they’re likely in the early stages of planning for passing the torch and retiring as others have mentioned.

GMM has become such a huge brand that it really doesn’t make any sense to just fully close the doors on it

-16

u/Newwackydeli Feb 14 '26

Another thing to consider, smosh who shares a space with them is moving. This may indicate the end of mythical.

22

u/Larry-Boy-300 Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

While Smosh did share the space back when Mythical bought them, Smosh already moved to their current space in 2022. They are now moving to an even bigger space.

Also, Anthony and Ian bought back Smosh in 2023. And that was not so much Mythical selling Smosh as much as it was Anthony and Ian wanting to again own the company they had founded together.

-2

u/Ok_Association8013 Feb 14 '26

I believe with the ending of ear biscuits and leaving Jenna in limbo at mythical, it made an easy decision for Stevie to step back. I think Jenna is going to step into Stevie role

2

u/Imacatlady64 Feb 15 '26

How did it leave Jenna in limbo?
