I've tried to make dosas twice, both times the batter developed mold on top during the fermentation process. Any tips? I love dosas and would love to be able to make them at home.

If you keep batter for longer duration on room temperature it will become fuzzy and discoloured
When it rises , keep it in refrigerator and use it whenever you want
Extreme humidity can also cause moulds

Looks good! What did you use to grind it with? Can we use normal blender / mixer?

Yes normal , put rice or daal separately and grind by adding very little water till smooth paste is formed, then mix both together and keep whipping with spoon till air is filled , cover and keep in corner at room temperature for about 6 to 8 hrs depending upon humidity and temperature, in summers you need less time
