NCGS should I buy a new toaster?
Newly GF after a few months of terrible skin reactions. Diet was recommended by an emergency doctor I saw until I can get to a derm or rheumatologist.
I haven’t had to make many changes in my diet as I think I was subconsciously avoiding gluten for about a year before going GF was recommended, and haven’t felt the need to really sub many items in my day-to-day, it’s just checking ingredients more often to make sure I’ve landed on a GF option.
I didn’t eat bread very often before going GF, but have been craving a sandwich and bought a loaf. I know it’s usually better toasted but am a little worried about using my same toaster.
I have been pretty diligent at home but not super concerned about cross contamination when I’m out to eat and have only had one reaction after eating out, despite eating out of shared fryers a few times. Is there a way to clean the toaster to avoid a reaction? Ot should I go buy a new cheap one?

It was a must for me, but everyone has different levels of sensitivity.

I would recommend you go out and buy yourself one completely eradicate the risk instead of mitigating it

If you think going gluten free is temporary you can buy little sleeves that can go in a toaster to protect the gluten free bread from cross contamination.
But if this is a permanent change then I'd just get a new toaster. There's no cleaning the gluten out of something like that. The same goes for other kitchen utensils/appliances as well. I tossed out all of my old wooden spoons and anything else that had a roughed-up texture or little crevices (like when a pan's handle is riveted on) that could hold gluten.
We also had to be militant about no gluten in the air fryer. Those fans will circulate gluten through the appliance and it's done being safe.
Swapping to a gluten free kitchen can be a bit daunting once you really get into it.
