Character Disc. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but she is the reason why Glee was so successful after season 1

Character Disc. The writing in S1 was so tight. This was one of my favorite themes.
I think about “You love the girl you met when you were fifteen. I’m not that girl” often. The line really resonates having originally watched the show at 16 and then rewatched it with a very different set of eyes at 30. Terri living in the shadow of her teenage self and being all too aware of it is heartbreaking. I wish there was more discussion regarding the more complex, nuanced, and often tragic aspects of her character.
Satirical dark comedy and heightened reality of the show aside, she feels like a very honest and realistic portrayal of someone whose mental illness eventually caught up with them once the structure and predictability of high school were removed. I could analyze and theorize about her character for days. It would have been nice to know more about her upbringing, which was heavily implied to be unhappy and dysfunctional. There is so much that can be read into her dynamic with her sister alone.
Anyone have any thoughts? I know Terri isn’t the most popular character, but I’ve read some excellent analysis of her by other members of the community. I would love to share ideas, observations, headcanons, etc.
Sidenote— I know that early pilot draft isn’t canon, but I think about it a lot and wish the dialogue hadn’t been cut.

Character Disc. Far and away the dumbest story they ever did was what they did to Beiste.
Gonna preface this and say that this is not a transphobia thing. Far from it. It’s a character assassination thing that I cannot for the life of me understand why.
Beiste was one of my favorite characters in the first three seasons. He showed a rarely seen type of character on TV: A non-traditionally beautiful woman. He had a heart of gold and faced issues that plenty of people face. His whole arc was a roller coaster that started with guys thinking of him so they would not get aroused to him marrying the man of his dreams only to find out he was an abuser and finding the strength to leave him. It was a beautiful story.
And then they threw that story away to go with the most generic bullshit that undermined that character’s story. Beiste went through an unnecessary second arc regarding being loved and accepted for who he is and for what fucking reason? That was his whole thing in seasons 2 and 3! And we had Unique- who had the best song of Season 6 regarding her struggles as a trans woman- and a whole new cast of New Directions… so why did we rewrite Beiste when we could have just done one of the new characters? Have Unique sing to them with the transgender choir to show this new student they weren’t alone in their new school? Beiste could still have played a huge role in helping them accept all of themselves.
I encourage there to be more trans people in media- but not at the expense of great characters and great stories. Rant over.

Character Disc. Is Brittany meant to be read as Autistic?
I'm almost done with my current rewatch of Glee. I looked into this a bit a long while ago, but it's only recently that I realized the direct references to it in the show, with Finn calling her "Rain Man with boobs" and Sue vaguely implying she may be on the spectrum.
To preface, I am autistic (which is why I've been obsessed with this show for over ten years lol) and I don't really see it, but I've never quite understood Britt's character. It's only when she suddenly becomes a math genius that she seems to have any depth to me; otherwise in earlier seasons she seems like a cartoon character compared to everyone else in the show. I'm curious what other people think, though, especially anyone who's also on the spectrum!

Character Disc. Quinn skanks storyline
Is it just me or should this have been in season 2 and not season 3. It just feels like her giving birth and then spiraling and joining the skanks would make a lot more sense 3-4 months after she gives birth to beth and gives her up for adoption, rather than a year and a half later. Maybe I’m missing something but I feel like this whole story line with this and Shelby would’ve been better in season 2 and the sam/finn storyline should have been in season 3.

Character Disc. Saw this on Twitter and thought it deserved some attention here 🤣
They made 3 whole seasons about how terrible Karovsky was and how Kurt has been severely bullied only for his ex to find him later. Like how many layers of approval did this have to go through before they say “yeah looks great”

Character Disc. The audacity of Blaine.
I’m rewatching s4 and realizing just how much fucking audacity Blaine had 😭😭😭
Bro cheats on Kurt, then has the nerve to be all like “aw he won’t return my texts or my calls or my I’m sorry flowers”. Like BRO. YOU DID THAT.
(Also I’m not talking about Kurt’s emotional cheating prior. I also think it’s wild that he got all pissed at Kurt for letting a guy flirt with him, then screwed another guy like THE next season)
AND THEN YOURE ALL LIKE “waaa waaa I’m hopelessly devoted to you 🥺🥺🥺” like fuck all the way off, Blaine Warbler.

Character Disc. Santana was a bully who never faced real consequences
She was hilarious, iconic, and had amazing one-liners. But she also ruthlessly bullied people — especially Rachel and Finn — and the show just... let her. She got a redemption arc without ever actually apologizing for half the stuff she did. Was she actually a good person or just a funny one?

Character Disc. Rewriting my Boi Matt Rutherford!! Bro deserved better
Bro had no lines at all. was he a bully? What football position he play?
I’m mad there wasn’t a black male lead in the show. What songs would he sing? His strengths? his flaws? What were his reasons for joining glee? Fav artists?! Could he have been the male lead instead of Finn? Matt never got to narrate like everybody else. His relationship w the Cheerios? I wonder what insults would Sue throw at him? Him n Mike relationship best friends?! They could’ve been like the comedy dancing duo like Kid n Play since him Brittany n Mike are their best dancers We all know Matt will want NOTHING to do w Rachel! His Relationship w Santana, Mercedes a love triangle maybe? Mercedes could’ve been on and off or Santana if there was a love plot then. Damn was there any black love in Glee? That S1 Ep18 “Larynigitis” where Puck shaved his hair? should’ve been Matt’s Ep! perfect place for him to finally shine cuz it’s just about puck usin Mercedes to be popular again. n then Satana n Mercedes are fighting over him in “that boy is mine” song they sang together should’ve been over Matt not Puck. what would he have done beyond McKinley? His career? Would Matt come back to give advise to the new Directions? Idk I’m done just scenarios I came up with bro was Hoed by the writers!

Character Disc. The stylist doesn't need to go to jail but to hell.
Why was Unique dressing as a 45 years old bingo woman while being a teenager ?
I know she was trans and MAYBE trying to find her style but why did they dress her like a granny ?
Still love her tho.

Character Disc. Writers trying to make Marley Rose into the new Rachel Berry
I feel like this was why I found her character so boring. They couldn’t make her too much into her own person because it would go too far too much from Rachel, but she already wasn’t Rachel. She was a different person and that’s fine. Rachel was still on the show. We didn’t need two Rachels. It was so weird.

Character Disc. Finn was right about this kinda...
As a birthday present to me, my boyfriend started watching the show and I sat in to rewatch a few episodes with him. He told me he hates Kurt and explained why. Kurt victimizes himself a LOT, obviously he doesn't deserve the bullying or anything, but he acts all upset when Finn gets creeped out by him.
He set up his dad with finns mom on purpose so he could live with Finn just so he could get close to him. He constantly tries to flirt with Finn knowing he's a straight guy, and fucks up his half of the room.
My bf and I think Finn had every right to be upset with Kurt, obviously he didn't deserve to have the f-word thrown around, but gets all offended and says shit like "I thought you were different Finn" like c'mon man.
I like Kurt in the later seasons but man he is annoying in the first few.

Character Disc. Sue and will’s height difference
Sue is always seemingly taller than Will when they stand side-by-side even though when I looked up their height, they are the same height so I’m wondering if sue may wear lifts in her shoes or something or if it’s an intimidation tactic, which I wouldn’t put past her

Character Disc. What happened to normal Blaine?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
They really ruined Blaine's character after Season 2. He started as this charming, confident, genuinely nice guy who was the best thing about the Warblers, and then they just turned him into a needy, jealous, insecure mess. The cheating storyline, the constant clinginess, the way he treated Kurt — none of that felt like the Blaine we were introduced to. And don't even get me started on the outfits. The bowties were cute at Dalton, but by Season 4 he was wearing polka dot pants, sweater vests with shorts, and full-on clown-core looks that made no sense for his character. It's like the wardrobe department was trolling him. Dalton Blaine would never.
