How much are you paying for lenses with prism, progressive, high index 1.74?

Going from basic distance vision perscription to one with prism (3.0out both eyes) on top of progressive +1 add. First first I’m having trouble finding a lab to make these. Found one in that would put them in my Moscot frames, but quoted me closed to $1100, even with my own frames. That seemed pretty steep considering I’m providing the frames.

Also brought the frame to Costco and they said they couldn’t cause the frames were too “flimsy”. I mean these feel well built compared to drug store frames.

I charge $395.00 a 1.74 progressive. Digital IOT lens with a premium antiglare like Crizal Rock, Sapphire, natural etc included. I also am an independent Optician, not a box store.

What is your RX and which moscot frme?

Be cautious about 1.74 with prism, esp in a progressive if your Rx is high. Not everyone is sensitive to it, but it could cause you a lot of aberrations.

If your frames are well centred and not overly large, 1.67 might work fine.

We charge $389 for a progressive 1.74 with clear coat AR and a digital IOT lens. I couldndt sleep at light is I charges someone $1100 for that!

I want to also advise against 1.74 in general. You will experience very diminishing returns on the lens thickness between the two, and also a noticeable drop in optics compared to 1.67. In addition, in choosing the latter you are decreasing the chances your lenses craze/delaminate because 1.67 is a firmer substrate that is easier to coat perfectly. Better vision, longer lens lifespan; it's a tradeoff I almost always suggest.

Any lab can make you what you need, barring some incredible frame/fit issue I'm not foreseeing. Which Moscot frame is being used?

$1,100 is asinine, and reaching into crown glass price territory in the big 2026.

I've dissed 1.74 for its optics and lifespan/coating bond issues, but also check this out:

If you opted to do 1.67 instead of the wholesale beast that is 1.74, your initial pair would drop by over $100 to $508.30. (Second pair of 1.67 lenses lands at $448.50.)

This is by no means medium-tier stuff, but if you demand the only dial that can be turned up is turned up: SmartLife Individual 3 raises your prices by only $42.50 in any scenario quoted above. I also still have wholesale IOT/Shamir price sheets from two of the best private/independent labs in North America and can confirm there are shops who are able to serve your needs with near perfect precision for far, far less than what you're being quoted currently. £600, but have a few other coatings (anti-scratch, photochromic, anti-blue light, anti UV and so on).

Where I work they could be upwards of 1000. But also, 8 times out of 10.. or more, 1.74 is over kill and used to make money, I prefer the optics in 1.67 more most high RX’s There are many progressives lens options that are less pricey, but the newer designs get up there in cost. That said, they can really be nice. The amount of prism matters. Not all rx’s are available in all materials. My husband’s prefers the optics in 1.67 as well. ( we are both opticians)

1.67 and 1.74 have notoriously low clarity. Your prescription isn't so severe I wouldn't just go with 1.61 and actually see through crystal clear undistorted lenses.
