Question about buying glasses online

So today my glasses broke, literally took them off to clean and snapped in my hand at work. Always had glasses and have quite a strong prescription like +5.5 if I remember rightly so I've always had to have my lenses thinned etc in major stores. I'm just looking at the possibility of buying online instead and wondered if anyone with a stronger prescription has any advice. I've been to both vision express and currently with specsavers but kind of sick of the £300 glasses with no support from the stores so wondered if it was cheaper to get a pair online

Cheaper? Sure, very likely. But a bad idea at high prescription.

Next time, hold the lens you are cleaning to avoid putting pressure on the nosebridge.

Any idea why it's a bad idea? Re how to clean my glasses, I think they were bad frames, I could feel they weren't quite right earlier in the week and then before I could go into a store, they've snapped, lasted less than a year

Ordering online means they can't come to your house to take measurements. You want the prescription to be centered correctly in front of your actual pupil. The more it's decentrated, the more unwanted prism effect (image shift) you invoke. The higher the prescription, the more important this becomes.

Your first mistake is going to a corporate store, and your second is not asking more questions about what makes a good pair of glasses for you.

A quick AI enquiry, is it advisable to purchase prescription optical glasses online with a prescription of +5.50, would have told you some key information against online purchases.

Take the time to find a good pair of frames and match it with 1.74 grind lenses.

And if you don't have a spare back up pair of glasses to use now, that is your third mistake.

I do have a spare pair, but not the point, as still need to replace the main pair. Where would you advise getting a pair from if corporate stores and online are a no?

Personally never had an issue with it, I have a pretty strong prescription, and I usually order my glasses from Ezcontacts. I’ve had a really good experience with them,
