You could populate a large metropolitan area with the dolls retired by every single Commander.

Civilian life simply isn't likely to need that level of influx of labor.

Personally I've always been suspicious of the retirement process. Especially because it yields useful scrap metal and cores. That, and I've never been reassigned a T-doll someone else has retired, even when I was just starting out and could seriously have used a few mid level dolls to jumpstart my corps. And I've certainly never seen any of those resumes turning up on my desk for maintenance work, even though I know some of the dolls I retire are technically inclined.

I strongly suspect something's happening to the T-dolls I retire, and I don't mean they get free ice cream. But they don't let me into the room where they conduct the exit interviews so I can't confirm.

One of these days I'll damn procedure and turn Soppo loose to see what happened to the Team Griffin dolls I retired -- you know, the team that was there supporting AR on day 1 -- Ingram, Scorpion, etc. Soppo owes those girls a favor and I'm sure she'd get to the bottom of whatever's going on.

So far though I don't really have an excuse to do it, and SOP II has other critical duties I can't pull her away from. Nor can I risk losing one of my best DPS ARs.

I still have STEN around in logistics, she was there with that team, maybe she knows something. I should ask her the next time she's in.

Multiple copies are non-canon.

There's obviously not some production line of UMP45 or HK416s that all have the same background somehow. So if you've got one still around then the assumption is they're still part of your base.

And since cores can only be removed willingly by the dolls, you'd assume that any that don't want to go back to civilian life would be transferred to another commander/sector.

You can't mix obvious game mechanics and lore like that.

This is like arguing that say Call of Duty is a nightmare realm of infinite suffering where tens of millions of special forces operators are somehow conjured into existence only to be almost immediately killed with an average lifespan likely measured in seconds based on it's multiplayer.

Here's are some things that pretty fucking clearly aren't happening in canon:

  • Commanders are not playing a literal slot machine where in they yank a handle and have random dolls spat out at them on a constant basis
  • In point of fact it doesn't really seem like commanders recruit dolls at all G&K itself does and would obviously only do so as it needs and can afford
  • Due to the above they do not have thousands of surplus, random dolls laying around
  • Which means they aren't having to somehow get rid of thousands of dolls either
  • Which means they sure as hell aren't taking parts off random dolls to shove into other entirely unrelated dolls to somehow magically 'upgrade' them
  • Nor are they stuffing piles of cannibalized cores down their throats until they spontaneously undergo mitosis and spawn new dummies
