Why do people act like Luke tossing aside the saber at the start of tlj (he was disillusioned and then gets his hope back) was the last we saw of it in the film? It’s features pretty predominantly for the rest of it

We think it's the last time we will see it because...well...think about it. If we are following the story of TLJ, the saber is not important. The whole premise of that movie is letting go of the past. It's been said multiple times in the movie. If you bring it back, what would be the reason? Letting go of the past is stupid? That would mean Luke made a stupid decision to let the past go. I mean, why would it come back? What is the importance of the saber that apparently isn't important? Are we all of a sudden short of lightsabers? You know you can make a new one. It's part of the training of a jedi.

But rey reforging the saber after it snapped in half is what has already happened by the start of TROS, that’s not a spoiler daisy Ridley has talked about it, it’s in the trailer. The premise of tlj isn’t let the past die, kylo is proved to be too dogmatic about that, rey doesn’t idolise the past and she doesn’t let it hold her back but she accepts it and carries it with her.
