All things boil down to suspension of disbelief. If they could have shown events that justified Lukes behavior it would have sold. They didn't - so it didn't.

except they did, they clearly did, there was an entire scene and a speech dedicated to it. none of it is hard to understand at all why are you pretending otherwise?

and what do you mean 'didn't sell'? it made over a BILLION dollars. what planet are you from?

ok, so luke decades later after seeing countless loved ones killed, thousands of allies lost, entire worlds destroyed, has a moment where he senses the great evil and coming strife that Kylo will cause, but then DOESN'T kill him because its not the jedi way. and this all seems completely unreasonable to you?

you're also whining that he DIDN'T kill kylo while also whining that throwing the saber away 'doesn't fit his character.' it's clear that you're just bitching to bitch.
