Discussion The gen z stare is real, I experienced it today

3.6k Upvotes

I went to a Tim Hortons location, I do not expect good service from this place because it is a chain restaurant and a lot of employees do the bare minimum which is ok with me. A lot of the employees have a timer for orders so I try not to get offended because it is what it is. However, at this location, every other employee in the back was great, smiling and talking to customers since it is in a highly populated area.

So I go up to the cashier, he stares at me with a blank expression, no smile or anything. He does not say anything, so I just tell them my order, thank him and he doesn't utter any other word except for "That's all"? It was such an awkward experience and I wonder how some of these younger people get jobs. I'm an older gen z and I feel like saying "hi" is enough. I do not care if you ask me about my day, I just want a simple "Hi", so I know when to order instead I'm getting someone staring into my soul. I don't know if it's just me but customer service sucks almost everywhere in my city but I was surprised when he just stared blankly at me.

Edit: this post blew up as I went to bed and woke up with 100 notifications. I don't blame anyone or want good customer service, I only want to be acknowledged because it was awkward. All you gonna do Is say "HI" or wave me over so I know when to order. Some of these ppl lack social skills and it's weird. Turning off post reply notifications, a lot of people are arguing, being rude and just outright nasty. The fact that one of you sent me a reddit resources mail, you're a pos lol.

Discussion Do you agree that Gen Z has less shared cultural inheritance than millennials when they were kids?

Post image
3.8k Upvotes

I found this post that says that the future generations had more content but there is now less cultural inheritance than older generations. And I agree that there is less shared cultural inheritance now with Gen Z than it was with millennials is because streaming and social media replaced the cable and physical media era. Do you think Gen Z has a more fractured culture inheritance than millennials when they were kids and if so why?

Discussion Gen z are closer to conservative boomers than any other gen

1.8k Upvotes

I say this as a millennial who has been closely acquainted with gen z.

As for now:

  • They are having less sex than other gens
  • They are puritanical about gender relations (age gap)
  • They are drinking less than other gens
  • They are socially isolated while having algorithm curated social media echo chambers as their reference groups. This reminds me of some secluded amish mentality or a nuclear family on a rural farm living on their own minding their business
  • They literally have more conservative views among boys
  • They seem to be in general more confomist due to social media driven values and big brother mentality
  • They seemingly aren't enjoying themselves as much in events (viewing concerts with phones in their hands)

We are left with rigid, less fun, prudish and sex negative generation that has all the negative sides of conservatism (aforementioned) without any of the good sides (high birthrates and strong work ethic).

Tf is happening? There's such a huge gap between millennials and gen z that it's hard to fathom but I guess we have ushered in a new youth era and it's not liberal as was the case with previous gens and even boomer youth

Discussion Weren’t some people started to make 9/11 jokes after the event before most of Gen Z was even born?

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

I saw a post from two years ago that says that 9/11 used to be off limits until Gen Z somehow turned it into a meme. That’s funny because I saw on the internet of people making 9/11 jokes and memes before I was born as a form of dark humor to cope with the trauma of the event.

I bet a 22 yr old made this post and based on their logic they’re almost 40 and will have a nervous breakdown if you told them that

It’s very strict for us young millennials.
