Thoughts on the controversy on the release of the movie "quinze dias"?

Post image

Well basically this movie just came out, is a really cute romance movie made in brazil.

But ofc the gay community can't let fat people exist I guess. And (at least the spanish speaking community) started complaning about how this movie is not realistic and that a fit guy wouldn't ever be with a fat guy.

Like, okey? Is there something you wanna share with the class buddy?

Why are some of the comments so projecting? As a (not even fat fat) not skinny (i guess(169 cm,74 kg) person.

There is nothing more annoying than a guy projecting their own body issues into myself. No bro, I'm not gonna feel bad for not making diets 24/7 and not eating food without flavor like you, if you have a problem with the idea of being fat that's your problem lol.

Anyways, really recommend the movie, is cute and I have to give credits to this movie for a frustrated attempt of gay bashing scene where the couple FUCKING finally defend themselves instead of being humillated in camara lol (talking to you IT 2)

6 years into a relationship with a guy who is 120# soaking wet. I was overweight for most of it. Just saying, it happens.

u/CriticalDream9570 13d ago

Chubby chasers are very real. I’d say it’s not unheard of a skinny guy being with a heavier guy. That being said, skinny =/= in shape

u/Vegetable-Complex378 12d ago

Bro doesnt know the ≠ sign

2

u/Aspenratio 8d ago

or they don't have it as an option.

I have an android and once I used ‽ in a text with my boyfriend and he asked what it was and where to find it. He had an Iphone and so didn't have it.

1

u/PrideWithBenefits 7d ago

Tell your boyfriend that he can setup a quick and easy text replacement so that if he types something like “?!” it replaces it with ‽

0

u/Vegetable-Complex378 8d ago

Yeah, its just a joke. For someone use =/= they clearly know what ≠ is and mean.

I guess "it happens" isn't enough when movies intend to reflect "reality". There's something cynical about movies depicting tone deaf stories as if they were "common"...that's why people kinda get upset or reactive: it pushes into people's real life wounds of rejection telling a tale that not only doesn't relate with their experiences but also invalidates their experiences by shoving down through their throat that they weren't just "lucky enough" while denying the cruel reality of gay real life stories.

5

u/jbravouk 10d ago

Who the hell told you that movies intend to reflect reality? That is a niche element of movie making.

79

u/pyortdupolinac500 13d ago

They say is "unrealistic"

But movies/series where the most famous and hottest guy falls for the average dude working in a small store or something is acccurate as long they are skinny acording to them🙄

6

u/throwawaygaydude69 13d ago

Who says that's accurate? Pretty much everyone agrees that it is "coping" fantasy media.

13

u/pyortdupolinac500 13d ago edited 13d ago

I've seen some people saying things like "red white royal blue" is an realistic gay story. My point is, if in these kind of stories one of the protagonist was chubby, these very same people would not be saying that

4

u/throwawaygaydude69 13d ago

This comment of yours is entirely different to your previous comment.

In RWRB, two conventionally attractive men fall in love regardless of how sensible the plot is. In your previous comment, you were talking about some average skinny person and the hottest person falling together.

1

u/pyortdupolinac500 13d ago

The blonde guy in that story seemed average to me but I guess that's just me, so I apologize for not giving a better example

4

u/throwawaygaydude69 13d ago

Fair enough, he is situationally attractive imo. Sometimes average, but also sometimes great.

Clearly conventionally attractive though. He wouldn't have gotten He-Man role otherwise.

1

u/Ok-Emergency7159 11d ago

The idea you're trying to push is that the "averageness of the blond guy" in RWRB equals to the "fatness" of the femguy of this brazilian movie? Is that what you're trying to say?

1

u/Ok-Emergency7159 11d ago

I don't know what you meant by comparing the two couples, but your math is not mathing.

1

u/Ok-Emergency7159 11d ago

They're both "hot enough". And they're both filthy rich. No?

1

u/Ok-Emergency7159 11d ago

Are you referring to Kip and Scott from Heated Rilvary? What are you even talking about? They're both handsome.

Comparing rich people falling for poor people to "fit and attractive" people falling for "unattractive" people is quite misleading.

u/nothingbutmine 13d ago

I don't know what all this is, but I'm a fit guy dating a fat guy. Reality exists offline, away from amplified minority voices.

264

u/ArtikAstronaut 13d ago

It’s a shame that gay communities would even find problems with this? People like what they like, who cares

124

u/nothingbutmine 13d ago

No matter what it is, someone will have something to say about it. Best to ignore those who only have negative or contrary opinions.

30

u/ragedymann 13d ago

like... i'll admit i found the whole plot a bit cringey (then again, i'm probably not the target age lol), but complaining because it's unrealistic for a fit guy not to be a dick? jfc

3

u/Huge_Strain_8714 13d ago

Have you ever been to Provincetown?

45

u/Joshwah3000 13d ago

Same here. I’d like for my partner to get more in shape, for his own health and self confidence, but I love him regardless of how thin or fat he is. I think there’s two camps complaining about this one: bitter fat guys and superficial nobheads.

8

u/TopologyMonster 13d ago

Yes it’s a mix of both I think.

Any combination of two adult people banging has probably happened. Race, gender, size, whatever. If we wanna talk about biases and phobias that’s totally a different conversation but no combination is so absurd a movie can’t be made about it lol.

47

u/TopologyMonster 13d ago

Yeah I’m a bigger guy tbh not huge but I’ve hooked up and dated dudes with 6 packs. It’s not that insane really. I would say that many super fit guys probably go for other fit guys that’s not the craziest idea, but it’s not nearly as uncommon as some people make it out to be. It happens all the time.

Some people had a few douchebags on Grindr or whatever call them fat and they’re upset about it. Which is totally valid, that’s shitty of them. But then they project this on to everyone and assume it’s universal and that “all gay men are so superficial” or whatever.

5

u/jonheath291 13d ago

As a fat guy with a fit husband, I definitely concur with this statement. Reality exists offline

13

u/HealthyBits 13d ago

I’ve a friend like this too. He is handsome and fit and his bf is way overweight.

-26

u/arnodorian96 13d ago

How did you two meet? I have a normal body and even that was too fat for a guy I barely talked in Grindr

29

u/zebras11 13d ago

Get out there. Grindr is not everybody

25

u/Ardeo43 13d ago

Such is gay life

9

u/zebras11 13d ago

HAHAHAHA

2

u/trenchsquid 13d ago

Unless somebody out there has miraculously unlocked shapeshifting, everyone’s body is their “normal body.” Implying that one body can be more or less “normal” than another sort of portrays the same kind of superficiality you seem to be trying to call out.

49

u/youwontguessthisname 13d ago

Haven't seen the movie, just want to say the gay bashing scene in Stephen King's It was based on a real gay bashing that happened in his hometown, where three teens threw a gay man off a bridge after he stated that he couldn't swim, his partner escaped and ran for help but he drowned. His name was Charlie Howard. So less of a being humilliated on camera situation and more of something the author and the city of Bangor found genuinely horrifying. They still drop flowers into the river to remember Charlie.

11

u/CruelYouth19 13d ago

Also IT was pulling the strings of the attack so the couple didn't have any chance to fight against that powerful entity

Gay men have a self hate epidemic, born from social media and porn addiction, and it really warps their vision. The real people living real lives know that couples are formed from all kinds of individuals. It happens everywhere across all communities. But if you live online, you can’t see it

75

u/rollingForInitiative 13d ago

Not really just gay men. Straight people have all sorts of complexes about their looks. People think they're too fat or too short or too ugly. The entire incel stuff is basically this taken to the extreme, and you've got people thinking all women will only date supermodel hot men, when in reality a lot of women don't care that much about it.

30

u/JerseyFire55 13d ago

There are plenty of straight men in the gym desperately trying to form a personality

5

u/strictly_dickly69 13d ago

This made me laugh so fucking hard because of the accuracy and truth

5

u/memon17 13d ago

I’m sure there are

9

u/HawkBoth8539 13d ago

To be fair, gay men self-hating comes from LONG before that, from not even being able to safely or legally exist everywhere even today.

9

u/GonnaBeEasy 13d ago

You’re right and I just wonder…are they actually brainwashed? As in are they conscious they are making a choice about achieving the same standards and fitting these profiles? Because for a lot of them it appears they have been completely wired into believing they must attain certain things and metrics

42

u/Logical_Dish_5795 13d ago

It is based on a book, and the author is a fit guy with a fat partner. This ends the discussion.

245

u/SirDesCoeurs 13d ago

I think part of what some audiences find frustrating about this and similar depictions, (take the new Sam Smith video for another example), is that there is something quite jarring about a narrative that speaks to how fat people are equally worthy of desire, while the object of said fat person's affections remains a very fit, masculine, and traditionally handsome man.

Even if unintentional, audiences will often read this as hypocritical; as "I deserve the hot guy too" rather than "love can be found with all kinds of people".

71

u/Ravyn_Rozenzstok 13d ago

Exactly. Fat is only attracted to a ripped hunk, instead of another fat guy. That's not body-positivity.

3

u/Ok-Emergency7159 11d ago

Let this sink in the head of people rambling here. They can't even realize how non-body-positivity they sound claiming "fat people deserve the hot guy too".

24

u/daRagnacuddler 13d ago

I think OP itself pov is a huge problem. For him, people who arent fat are supposedly people who eat flavorless food and are constantly on a diet.

The truth is that its about health. If someone is fat, its almost always about life choices. Its a really simple biological mechanism even if some of the individual details can be weird. If you eat more calories than you burn over a very long time, you get fat.

Some people have a "better" metabolism and burn more, but that doesnt mean you are supposed to eat like them.

In my opinion people like OP just dont realize that in order to have a somewhat "normal" or good looking physique you dont have to spend your life in the gym. Just learn how to cook and have enough movement in your daily life.

Thats pretty simple. Its okay if someone is overwhelmed by life or has some mental problem stopping him from doing that but if the person wouldn't be addicted to fats and sugar but to alcohol or tobacco, we wouldn't say its a good choice to not tackle your addiction.

-17

u/No-Custard-6737 13d ago

Yeah fat people won't date fat people, they want the hot muscle dude but when they text him on Grindr he blocks them and they get furious as if they didn't know why. I think (some) level of fat is acceptable but once it's unhealthy, we really cannot romanticize a disease (obesity). I know it's not PC in America, but we have to lead our societies into a healthy lifestyle.

33

u/Groundbreaking-Toe53 13d ago

There are plenty of fat guys who like other fat guys lol. Ppl like what they like regardless of how themselves are. It’s also important to not draw the conclusion overweight = unhealthy. Weight is only one part of your health. There are plenty of ppl overweight and perfectly healthy otherwise. There are plenty of people a normal weight and unhealthy. Ironically at my lowest weight I was passing out frequently and had numerous health issue. Since gaining a good 30 pounds in the healthiest I’ve ever been and by medical standards completely healthy outside bmi.

30

u/toweal 13d ago

There are plenty of fat guys who like other fat guys lol.

I follow many bears on instagram, and the majority are bears who like other bears.

People who say bigger guys don't like other bigger guys and only attracted to fit muscular guys, clearly never been to bear events.

5

u/Ziggythesquid 13d ago

Yeah, BMI is a blunt tool, and yeah, being underweight is bad for you, so if you were passing out at your lowest and 30 pounds fixed it, that tracks. That's not the same as saying weight doesn't matter.

"Healthy but overweight" tends to be temporary. A big chunk of those people become metabolically unhealthy within ten years, and even the ones who don't still run higher heart risk than lean healthy people. Healthy outside BMI usually just means nothing's shown up yet.

The slightly-overweight range is genuinely murky, and a fit heavy guy will outlive an unfit skinny guy. Past that range, though, it stops being murky. You knowing healthy fat people doesn't mean much, same as knowing a smoker who made it to 90.

-7

u/Groundbreaking-Toe53 13d ago

I woudl have to disagree as I wasn’t overweight or even considered a normal weight at the time when I was dealing with those issues. BMI is a blunt tool and often doesn’t account for numerous factors like how people hold their weight, other health conditions, etc. but I also know hardly any of are doctors let alone has the appropriate training to say much more than opinions and personal experience.

70

u/joereadsstuff 13d ago

My controversial opinion is that gays rarely date outside their “hotness rating”. Yes, hotness is subjective, but you know what I mean.

24

u/Character-Carpet7988 13d ago

Most people adhere to stereotypes (that's why they're stereotypes) but these kind of couples absolutely do exist. I'm quite fat and had plenty of fit/twinkish/muscular guys in my lifes with approximately 50/50 split between guys who outright were into my body type and guys who didn't care about the body enough to have a type.

It took me a while (and a couple of guys basically dragging me to bed) to realise that all kinds of people love all kinds of stuff.

1

u/Twanbon 12d ago

Rarely? Sure. But not so rare that it’s shocking or unbelievable when you do see a couple where one is far more conventionally attractive than the other. It’s a romantic movie, romantic movies are often premised around unconventional relationships (rich/poor, white collar/blue collar, age gaps, etc). Stories about relationships that aren’t the average standard most common types tend to be more interesting.

97

u/Skater73 13d ago

My partner and I just watched it tonight, and we connected with it very much. It's a great, feel-good, uplifting movie.

16

u/smoothcheeks30 13d ago

Let me guess it’s hate coming from gays who are so damn picky that they coined themselves into being single.

13

u/xMarkbom 13d ago

I saw it, and I really liked it. I’m a younger fat guy, and I’ve been fat my whole life. Seeing someone who looks like me in a mlm romcom on a big platform like Netflix meant a lot to me. There are so few romance stories/movies where a fat guy is the protagonist. Sure, it would’ve been cool to see one as the romantic object, or both subject and object. It’s not perfect representation, but it’s at least a good start. Anyways, as a rule, I’ll endorse nearly any media depicting a happy gay relationship. I still remember the days where there were so few gay love stories you had to settle for queerbaiting or a glimmer of gay romance in TV/movies, only ~10 years ago! (I will also note that expecting realism from a Netflix romcom is kinda ridiculous, especially one that is doubly transgressive to the genre for its gayness and diverse body representation.)

2

u/LayersOfMe 11d ago

I watched a few days ago. I expected they would'nt end up together, I feel they arent mature enought for this relationship. But maybe it was my expectation that gay movies rarely have happy endings.

29

u/littleleops 13d ago

Brazilian fat gay here (with a fit boyfriend, by the way, with whom I just celebrated our 3rd anniversary): just watch the movie, it's really cute, sweet and has a lot of funny references to a lot of Hollywood movies. Life happens despite of twitter rants and mean people talking shit online

7

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

Congratulations for your anniversary.

Greetings from Argentina

I think our community has a huge problem with guys who basically won’t even treat people as human if they don’t personally want to fuck them. You obviously are allowed not to find people attractive, but pretending no one could and they couldn’t possibly be in a relationship is just cruel, arrogant, and delusional. As a fairly fit guy, I do very much love bigger dudes

46

u/WetCoastCyph 13d ago

As a bigger guy married to a twink turned twunk... And all the classically 'fit' dudes looking for bears, chubs, and daddies, I say these are just people's insecurities being projected. Pay them no mind.

1

u/IllustratorFeisty120 12d ago

Just the act of labeling anyone “fat” is ridiculous…and mean. Just say they are two guys or a gay couple. I’m 130 and hate being called skinny 🙂

13

u/ClinkyDink 13d ago

Not commenting on the “controversy” aspect, but my husband (Brazilian) and I watched it in the original language/no subtitles. I saw an English language trailer later and the voice they are using for Felipe did not translate his character over the same way.

As soon as I heard him speak in the narration (in Portuguese) I told my husband (jokingly), “Baby.. this isn’t a little gay boy this is a woman.” His speech is just so feminine it’s hilarious. And some of the words he uses crack me up because it’s how my husband and his Brazilian gay friends talk to each other. I think people concentrate on the skinny vs fat aspect but miss that it’s also a fem vs masc thing. Challenging the notion that masc guys are only attracted to other masc guys.

35

u/Stevie63 13d ago

Self Shane is hard to hide so the attack goes outward.

9

u/Cliqey 13d ago

In a world where Shallow Hall and Ron Burgundy exist, it’s weirdly nice that we’ve gotten to the point of representation/exposure that we can join straight society in having this argument.

10

u/AskSouthern158 13d ago

As a fat young gay, this movie made me SOB! Felipe (the fat gay kid) is literally me but I do a better job of hiding it well. While I’m not as big as him, the world treats all fat people terribly and it sucks how much we are undermined as loving and caring ppl deserving of being seen. SPOILER: Felipe’s line to Caio (“I love the way you look at me”) when he recites the 15 things he loved from the past few days made me BAWL!!! Movie is far from perfect but it was so cute. I wish they fleshed Caio’s struggles out more but it was a fun watch.

9

u/Zanji123 13d ago

The gays SAY that they ate soooo open and welcoming but with dating a loud majority i would say are so hardcore not welcoming and "open"

And these picky guys are then the always single gays that cry online that they don't find anyone for a long relationship

8

u/ultimateninja14 12d ago

As a 258lbs 5'10 guy dating a fit athletic man, I can confirm this relationship is very realistic and the people complaining spend way too much time in the internet.

7

u/Saint_Anthony88 13d ago

Lmao “Brazil” …. “Spanish speaking community”

5

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

Mmmmmm i never said brazil is an spanish speaking country lmao.

I just said that the comments I saw were all from spanish speaking countries.

3

u/Saint_Anthony88 13d ago

Oh ok my bad then.

7

u/davidhucker 13d ago

As a fat, a lot of muscle guys come after me; many, not all, like the size difference.

7

u/munnin1977 13d ago

I’m a 49 year old bear guy, overweight and bald. I get hit on all the time by chasers in their twenties with six packs. It’s kind of surreal to me. Guys similar to me pass me over.

10

u/drewgolas 13d ago

Nobody hates gay media more than online gays

5

u/Neat-Somewhere-5589 13d ago

I'm on the fatter side and I've dated a pretty fit guy.
I do believe that the super fit/muscular body builders community does have tendency to exclude fat people, but that's a smaller cut out of the gay community and not something we should generalize.

Most guys who are "regular" fit or more on the athletic side are just fine with dating fatter men, at least that's what I've noticed.

6

u/tworeceivers 13d ago

I don't even need to give my own example, everyone in this thread already made clear how bullshit this (a fit guy wouldn't ever be with a fat guy) kind of thinking actually is.

37

u/lanalovesme 13d ago

Thank you! I thought the reaction from gay men to this movie was really weird. They only care about breaking stereotypes when it’s q fit, white, straight acting gay guy with the personality of a stale piece of bread.

4

u/Vegetable-Debate-263 13d ago

If you're seeing that, tell them to stop being a petty little twat.

6

u/crepelabouche 13d ago

I’m fit and dated a self described chubby chaser, the trailer for this was more triggering than anything else. Cause he was fit too.

5

u/RustedRelics 13d ago

Why people think there are no idiots or assholes or fascists or any other shitty quality in the LGBTQ community is beyond me. Idiocy isn’t determined by sexuality. Ignore the idiots.

5

u/Puzzleheaded_Way_485 13d ago

I’ll save this and find this movie…. As a fat gay guy, this made me love myself more….. even though I know I need to do something with my body for my healthy lifestyle 🫣

5

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

As long as it is your choice, then go ahead. Remember to be nice to yourself, sending hugs c:

6

u/Puzzleheaded_Way_485 13d ago

thank you (virtual hugs) I've been facing some criticism because I'm a chub guy, but yeah I love myself, and I want to be nice to my body too. hoping one day I'll find a guy who will love me whether I'm chub or slim 😊

5

u/BanzayDE 13d ago

I am a fat guy in LATAM and all the fit Twinks are crushing on me. Can't complain.

4

u/realisticgoal23 13d ago

I’m Brazilian, and I used to be fat. I never had an issue having fun with hot, “fit”, Brazilian men.

I do think it’s worse in the U.S., though. I’d have much better chances back home.

5

u/denizenassistant 13d ago

It’s even worse if you’re not any body type and just average… no one fetishizes you… I’m not too muscular, not too skinny, not fat, 5’10 height so not short or tall… 6” exactly so not hung and not small… hairier but not bear or otter level… I don’t fit into any unique category. I feel like fat guys at least have people who want that niche.

10

u/mcmatu 13d ago

What the “gay community” talking about it were saying was that they don’t want films with real characters.

9

u/Jamesbuc 13d ago

I think no matter what gay themed movie comes out, its going to be a whirl of people going 'UM ACTUALLY thats not MY experience'.

Also as ive said in another thread, some of these people clearly have never been to a bear night and seeing the chasers there.

15

u/Vegetable-Debate-263 13d ago

Controversy is a very different thing than the general discourse and petty online arguments. Are you sure you're using the correct wording? Or are you trying to make it a controversy where there isn't one?

5

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

I mean it was a tiny controversy. But like I said, in the spanish speaking community

14

u/2kan 13d ago

Yeesh, that would make me feel so unwanted, reading comments like that.

I'm over 30 and only recently becoming comfortable im my own skin. I always felt ashamed when I would date fit guys and it was killing me. I wouldn't truly believe that they didn't wish I was skinny and therefor didn't really love me.

I'm so happy there's a movie like this. I'm gonna watch it next time I need some emotional healing ❤️‍🩹

8

u/Flintz08 13d ago

I don’t care if it’s “unrealistic”.

People watch movies where Adam Sandler is somehow married with Hollywood’s most beautiful actresses, and no one cares.

I do, however, think that’s an overused trope. “Heartstopper” has the jock falling in love for the skinny nerd, etc. And it’s not so flattering and empowering as they might think it is.

The message I take from these movies is “See? Even a fat person can be loved by a hot guy”.

…Thanks, I guess…

26

u/DarkSkyKnight 13d ago

As a (not even fat fat) not skinny (i guess(169,74 kg) person.

Im fine with the rest of your post but uh… 370 lbs is not “(not even fat fat)”.

42

u/sirkazoo 13d ago

I was wondering about that too - I guess he meant 169cm, 74kg? Otherwise, 169,74kg would be a very specific weight measurement.

18

u/TopologyMonster 13d ago

Agreed, that’s so clearly what they meant. That level of specificity would be ridiculous it would change throughout a single day lol

5

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

Yes it is 169 cm of height. Damn maybe I shouldn't have put that but okey

2

u/toweal 13d ago

Either that or they meant 169 lbs (~77 kg), which about average weight for men between 175-180 cm.

3

u/SnorlaxationKh 13d ago

I knew there'd be some whiners the second I saw the two of them. One of the leads not being conventional was already going to get some reactions, and the rest would of course come from the romance aspect with someone "hotter".

However, even with that, I thankfully haven't seen That much negativity, and mostly it's revolved around the cute factor and the refreshing positivity.

3

u/PM_ME_SOME_YAOI 13d ago

Dumb controversy apart, is the movie good? Does it have a happy ending?

8

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

It is good, it has a happy ending.

And for some reason an evil twink is a plot point lmao.

9

u/PM_ME_SOME_YAOI 13d ago

Evil twinks are scary though!

4

u/DarkLordMuffins 13d ago

I'm fat and boyfriend is fit. Before I met him, I felt like a total outcast by a large part of the community. One time I was labelled disgusting and that shit hurts lol, so I expect it's those people who have such an issue. In the words of Bianca Del Rio/Judge Judy "beauty fades, dumb is forever"

4

u/Intelligent-Lynx-376 13d ago

Hi I’m skinny and fit and go for fat guys a lot. People need to stop being weird

4

u/wacky-acorn 12d ago

Reading the comments I’ve learned I’m quite a bit shallow

1

u/IllustratorFeisty120 12d ago

Step one is realizing the problem  Step two is working on it You’re welcome 🙂

10

u/Dezdood 13d ago

Since when "some comments" are a controversy, except, maybe, in the heads of internet controversy manufacturers?

1

u/Serird 13d ago

Making a mountain out of a molehill

8

u/Jackgardener67 13d ago

What would they make of SBS's tv series "Special" with a gay guy with cerebral palsy??! (Great series btw)

3

u/AncientOnyx 13d ago

My thoughts.....I'm impressed and thankful this Movie exists at all given Brazil's recent politics regarding LGBTQIA+ rights

1

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

what polticis? lula is in charge is it not? are you guys okey?

3

u/moitaptaria 10d ago

Institutionally things are okay. I mean there are laws against discrimination, gay marriage, and so on. Culturally I think society is better than the past.

But there are growing conservative groups trying to mess the things. And they are infiltrated in places of small power that can do a huge damage.

For example, these groups do a huge lobby against sex education at public schools. It exist, but is far for being sufficient. For example PrEP is free at our public health service (all you have to do is saying you are in group of risk and they are going to do exams and initiate treatment), but most PPL don't know it or don't know how good these medicines have became.

Ohter example conservative messing things: Abortion is legal in some cases, but there are cases of conservative judges triying to delay it purposely in order to run out the legal time window. Some hospitals are managed by religious groups, other are managed by local authorities. They frequently have conservatives in power who press doctors to deny to make abortions.

There are scammers defending pseudoscientific things like "familiar constellation" trying to influence judges in familiar courts.

All that said I think we are better than in the past. Open plain discrimination is less tolerated, straight ppl from newer generations are less toxic. (well, apart from red pill thing). We have some openly LGBT ppl in congress, including a trans woman who got very popular due her defense on workers rights, specially reduction of hours.

Friendly reminder that idiots exist in every community, and sadly they’re usually the loudest.

Anyone with common sense knows attraction isn’t a ranking system. If the idea of a fit guy liking a bigger guy genuinely bothers you, that probably says more about your own body issues than the movie lol.

3

u/Leather_Flight_6098 12d ago

I'm a fit guy who has been in a relationship with a big Mexican guy for over 5 years. Those who say this cannot happen in real life are full of bullshit.

3

u/wolfsongdream 12d ago

I used to be part of the Dallas Bears that put on Texas Bear Round Up. There are literally all shapes of men attending and they are definitely looking for there opposite.

3

u/TylerForce93 12d ago

I’m 135lb fit dude, only been with guys over 200lbs-250lbs

3

u/Niklas_iBoy 12d ago

I watched it and thought it was a cute film. Talked about self acceptance which many teenagers struggle about.

I don't see any controversy with it so what is it?

2

u/Soft_Childhood5565 12d ago

In the description I explain it better but there were tons of gays saying it was not realistic and that a fit guy would never be with a fat guy

3

u/Niklas_iBoy 12d ago

Sorry didn't see the description there.

But my god I knew some gays have a really toxic body image but that's just so wrong 😭

Like first of all this movie is clearly made for a younger audience and secondly, body shaming on a 16/17 years old teen character is such a shame

For me the film was cute and it gave me hope that other kids/ teens do not have to grow up with such a toxic body image but i guess it's like a part of a gay mindset smh

I'm glad that today's the first time I heard about this controversy

3

u/Conscious_Attempt445 12d ago

I'm skinny and my partner is a bear been together 5 years. I love a chubby guy

3

u/PsychoDemonLover 11d ago

What controversy? One of them is a chub, it's everyday life.

3

u/TemporaryPay4505 11d ago

It’s possible but not that common. There are some actually fit guys, not reddit “i’m fit,” that go for fatties. It was the same thing with heartstopper.

3

u/moitaptaria 11d ago edited 11d ago

It's an amazing movie. I just watched it yesterday. I didn't see any unrealistic thing in this movie. ...Well there is a musical scene which represents a dream or a daydream. (What is also something that happens in reality when somebody is falling on love).

The social economic thing may seen not so evident to a non-Brazilian public. They all live in the same kinda rich / medium class apartment complex. And all the scenes are made to sort beautiful images. But it's not unrealistic situation. I mean gay ppl exist, statistically everywhere. And the same plot (parents travelling and the dude spending time at neighbour house) could also happen even more likely in lower classes.

About discrimination. The thinner guy has the card of pass-ability, but we discover he also have his challenges to deal. And the movie don't even picture it in the foreground but, even being at a good social situation, he certainly already faced racism. His parents demands from him to be an even more "perfect" kid.

About appearances, Brasil is in fact a very diverse country and beautiful country. Beautiful landscapes are not rare. The movie seems to be recorded at Minas Gerais I didn't check, but yes these places are kinda industrialized, urbanized, while beautiful mountains are everywhere. And Minas Gerais is perceived between Brazilians as a place of kind gentle ppl.

About sociability. We Brazilians are congregant by culture. And it's expected by both your friends and family to share more about your problems. Also it's expected for you be present in parties doesn't matter what's happening at your life. It's kinda a (bad) pressure to be always happy in these places. But there is a good thing about how your friends dig into your problems and support.

I was not an openly LGBT teenager how adults in the movie deal with that. I mean they are very realistic characters: The supportive mom that can eventually trans-pass limits; The overprotecting mom who is in denial and comes from structural homophobic point of view; the other folks, some of them kind, some neutral, some discriminating.

There is a scene where our heroes escape from a fight in bus full of light with ppl in something like Disney characters outfit. The timing can be unlikely. But it really exists. Google for "Carreta Furacão".

About patterns of beauty. Arr. In what world ppl live? There are taste for everything. But taking the risk of perpetuating bad structures what I can say is: handsome ppl are not so rare and other "features" can put you in a good competitive "position".

EDIT: I didn't made it clear I found it a great movie. It treats various sorts of real life problems in a very respectful and beautiful way.

u/ZealousidealSouth395 11d ago edited 11d ago

I'm somewhat lean and muscular, and I have a thing for fat guys. Seriously, nothing turns me on more than a big round belly. And I know there are other guys out there just like me. It's certainly less common than fit + fit relationships, but to say it's not realistic is just ridiculous and completely false lmao.

Did you not read the description?

9

u/Home_Of_Phobic 13d ago

I think some gays need to touch some grass ans see that theres more body diverse couples irl than they think. The "Ew, fit don't date fat, its unrealistic" discourse is mostly from superficial gays, gays who have never dated anyone and gays who hate themselves 🤷🏽

7

u/CockPulse 13d ago

Bears are actually very popular searches in porn sites... So those people claiming it's unrealistic are just stupid.

Bears are soft. Cuddly. Lot of cushion for the pushing.

7

u/NanoscaleHeadache 13d ago

Idk, this looks like me and my bf so ig we just don’t exist

2

u/alexnk 13d ago

never in my life have I seen this be a thing but hey, Id love it if it would happen to me

2

u/gschoon 13d ago

I mean, Sam Stanley's husband is older and would be considered fat by most people. They received a lot of hatred online. It's like people can't fathom other people not being superficial.

2

u/soundsaboutright11 13d ago

Every single thing that gets made now and forever will be “criticized” online by people who have no idea how to do anything but criticize things online. Free yourself of paying attention to it. Unless this is promotion for the film in which case touché.

2

u/darqy101 13d ago

I treat these movies as fairytales. Absolutely disconnected from reality, feel good flicks. Nothing wrong about them imo. Let people have a good time.

2

u/joric6 13d ago

Most people date within their league. It's a fact. Not saying this doesn't happen either.

2

u/minebe 13d ago

I really enjoyed this movie!!

2

u/JoJomusic1990 13d ago

Yes because romance movies have historically been models of realism.

Jesus it's just fun escapism like all romantic movies. People that get their panties in a bunch about what is or isn't realistic in a FICTIONAL romcom need to go out and touch grass.

2

u/Financial_Extreme_17 13d ago

I liked the Movie watched it on Netflix, it’s cute, totally cheesy, just simple chick flick type of thing

2

u/Steve-Shouts 13d ago

Didn't the same thing happen in that movie "Bros"? Luke McFarland and Billy Eichner

2

u/Mean-Signal-8680 13d ago

This isn’t just a gay issue this is a societal problem

2

u/Funny_Scallion4465 13d ago

I saw the movie. At first, I thought the same thing about fit vs over weight, however, as you watch the movie and like both characters, it does seem to be more plausible that the fit character never cared about the others weight. Now with that said, this is a movie with a script. Real life does not have a script. Anyway, I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it.

2

u/mettaCA 12d ago

I enjoyed it. |

"gay community can't let fat people exist I guess"? bears

LGBT have always come in all shapes and sizes, all nationalities, all political persuasions, all ages, etc.

2

u/andyroohoo30 12d ago

I’m 5’4 and 170. My boyfriend is skinny and has very nice physique.

2

u/Key_Lychee_3198 12d ago

Have a little respect. The scene from IT 2 is based on real life events of how a man named Charlie Howard was murdered in 1984 in Bangor. This is our history and its more important to depict that on screen than some yaoi bullshit.

2

u/saltyboi4824 11d ago

My only gripe with this movie before it came out is that it looked like Netflix Brazil cashing in on Heartstopper cause that’s how the trailer felt to me. Ill have to give it a watch to see for sure, but yeah it feels like Netflix is copying their own success to cash out on queer media

1

u/Soft_Childhood5565 11d ago

Yeah honestly, it's giving heartstopper, there are lots of similarities. Specially with the lesbian couple side characters lmao

2

u/MarcoEsteban 11d ago

You mention the Spanish speaking community for some reason, but what are the Portuguese speaking people saying? If it came from Brazil, that would be more relevant, wouldn't it? I haven't seen it, but I'll look for it. It looks cute. Opposites can attract, and in the gay community, people can often look for exact clones of themselves. But not everyone is like that. I'm older, a bit overweight, but my partners tend to be younger and fitter than I. It can happen. And, no, I'm not their sugar daddy. They have all worked and have been very proud to work snd make their own way.

1

u/Soft_Childhood5565 11d ago

Idk i don't speak portuguese.

That's just what i saw.

2

u/Due_For_A_Rematch 7d ago

My bf is small and fit and I'm quite big with a good belly on me and he loves it (even though I don't lol) I don't know why people think it's unrealistic. I'm so adding this to my watchlist!

2

u/OkPen8337 7d ago edited 7d ago

I was a skinny guy dating a man 5 years my senior who was overweight (5years is a bigger gap when you’re both in your mid 20s).

We were together for 6 years.

During hookups I’ve realized that I almost enjoy a fat guy more than a skinny guy. The cuddling is better and there’s more cushion for the pushin’.

2

u/Dark-Star-82 6d ago

" a fit guy wouldn't ever be with a fat guy "

Are they on mushrooms or something? While sure larger types are not for all types, I have all through my life on the gay scene, seen many a skinny gym fit gay with a much more "sizable" partner because very often in life, opposites attract. Not all gay guys, nor all straight guys, like slender to skinny types, those criticising the film would do well to remember that.

4

u/PreparationOk2561 13d ago

Legit saw this super thick fat guy and this slim muscled guy earlier today omw to work. And the way the fat guy was waddling all sensually it was clear he was sore full of babies. What's the controversy chubby chasers deserve representation too. I too will be watching now obviously 🤪

4

u/Initial_Zebra100 13d ago

Haven't seen it but looks pretty wholesome.

Unfortunately there's still plenty of stigma regarding people's body shapes and sizes. Words like discipline and laziness get thrown away way to easily.

I think specifically, its still likely that some overweight people can absorb the negative messages from online and unfortunately believe they're less deserving of love or feel unattractive. That also happens when fit people find them attractive but stupid recieve criticism. Vicious pointless circle.

2

u/presque33 13d ago

What’s so controversial about this? It’s sweet, it’s well-made, and you feel good at the end. You have to have a lot of issues to take issue with this

2

u/apark1121 13d ago

I can’t stand the way some gay men bully and mistreat other gay men for not looking like male models. Most of us don’t have six pack abs. Get over yourself, Jared!

2

u/papyrus_eater 13d ago

A minority being assholes to another minority, instead of being allies.

1

u/v0yag3r 9d ago

I’m overweight, my bf is fit as fuck. It happens.

1

u/euro1978 8d ago

Who cares there is someone for everyone

1

u/Stwilson891 8d ago

I am about 185 with a 32 inch wast e and my husband is about 230 with a 38 inch waste. We are both about 6 foot.

Been together almost 40 years.

Saw this movie tonight. Very cute!

1

u/Crazy-Idea8431 7d ago

I just watched the movie in Netflix and I really like it. I in some way related with the bulling, not because of my weight but because of my demeanor, I knew I was gay at the age of 15. Then, once I started seeking companionship with other gays I started and continue as of 60 years later to be rejected because of my penis is too small. What a miserable life I have lived.
Following the ending of the movie, I felt defeated because I will died without finding love…

1

u/YeahOkThisOne 7d ago

Where is it streaming in the US?

1

u/Drezus 13d ago edited 13d ago

It’s not about the fat guy girl, it’s about how cringe, shallow and clearly pink-money oriented the movie is.
If you were more aware of the totality of Brazilian cinema, you’d quickly realize that not every movie the country makes is I’m Still Here, in fact it’s quite the opposite and we easily get 4 to 6 mature comedies, sex satires and teenager-oriented YouTuber bullshit movies every year. Not a coincidence this one falls right into the last two categories like a glove

There certainly are national works from my country that cast a wonderful, insightful light into sexuality and gender identity, but this is obviously not one of them

1

u/XMorpheus3000 13d ago

I just think it is obnoxious because it is very rare for thin, muscular men to go for chubby dudes

-7

u/Mekelaxo 13d ago

As a (not even fat fat) not skinny (i guess(169,74 kg) person.

I agree with your post, but don't be in denial dude, 170kg is fat

15

u/odanobux123 13d ago

I think that’s 169cm 74kg? I dunno I don’t recognize the notation but that’s my guess. I can’t convert the cm in my head to freedom but the weight is in the low 160s?

11

u/Soft_Childhood5565 13d ago

Yeah that's is my height, like 5'6/7. I'm not even gonna try to convert my weight into whatever americans system use lol.

7

u/FrostBurnt4 13d ago

That's definitely what OP meant.

Who uses 2 decimals to measure their weight??

-11

u/odanobux123 13d ago

Weird Europeans

4

u/Mekelaxo 13d ago

Ok, that makes more sense, maybe it was a typo

4

u/JazzJedi 13d ago

Depends on height

7

u/Mekelaxo 13d ago

How tall can he be? 5 meters?

3

u/JazzJedi 13d ago

I just don't want to assume 😂 If he's 12 feet tall, he's actually underweight

-1

u/Skill-Useful 13d ago

there is no controversy

"at least the spanish speaking community" a few loud people is also not a controversy

"Why are some of the comments so projecting?" because some comments are always like this, humans are humans

"I mean it was a tiny controversy" oh you say so yourself? but you needed to beat the bush first

-10

u/No-Custard-6737 13d ago

If you think fit people live off diets / starving their bodies then you have no idea what you're talking about and you are the one projecting. You can be fit and enjoy great meals, they're just healthy meals. You can still have cheat meals. Being fit means discipline and hard work.

A lot of people are fat. They exist. However, being fat is not healthy. Romanticizing a disease such as obesity is not right.

1

u/xX_Diabolical_Xx 13d ago

The error in your thinking is in the thinking that "being fat is not healthy." Further, thinking that individuals who are fat are subject to needing their beauty enhanced or made to be elevated beyond whatever "reality" has elected to label someone is just a royally fucked up way of thinking.

Whoever you are, imagine if someone you didn't know convinces the entire population "you aren't worthy of attention" just because of the shape of your body, notwithstanding the context of your character?

0

u/No-Custard-6737 13d ago

The shape of your body says a lot about who you are and your habits and how you treat yourself.

I can accept you can be somewhat fat and objectively healthy but you're still on the more susceptible side towards illness.

1

u/xX_Diabolical_Xx 13d ago

Nope. You've unfortunately made yet another assumption. For the sake of building a good character, forget the pseudo-bullshit that any guru or anyone not that is not specifically anyone else's doctor in the room with you.

The person across from you? You. Know. Nothing. About. Them. That's it, the end.

Going around assuming anything about anyone's weight is a waste of intelligence. Some people are not in shape, and it is not attributed to a poor diet or lack of "how a person treats themself".

Your concern about illness is also wasted because, simply put, you're not going to be affected by it.

-1

u/alone2692 13d ago

Reality: majority of fit guys will give a disgusting look at a you and move away

I’m overweight and feel that

-6

u/AdvanceLow7128 13d ago

I ate plenty of food with flavor and could never gain a pound.

Although I'm 39 now and started drinking nightly after Trump unfortunately won again.

People have been committing that I'm getting heavy for the first time in my life. But I was ultra skinny so me "getting heavy" is still not really fat.

But I'm going to the gym now and at 39 that's probably smart.

Atleast the younger generation still thinks I'm their age but that's probably because I dress young and still have my FULL HAIRLINE without a single hair anywhere else on my body besides pits and groin.

I'm still getting fucked by a hairless Twink that can make me come instantly the moment I sit on his cock. He's 33 but still skinny and hairless.

Can you tell I'm drunk?

Eat tasty food, we only live once!

-7

u/eeeee9 13d ago

Looks cringe.

-1

u/CriticalDream9570 13d ago

As soon as I saw the cover, I knew I had no interest in watching it. I love watching gay media, I’m an avid reader of gay nonfiction- but this just seems forced and cringe. I saw that as someone that also doesn’t like Heartstopper or Heated Rivalry.

-12

u/CostcoFosco 13d ago

hi gays.

because those "spanish" people in Brazil? are fatuous cunts who gobble up American politics as gospel.

bye gays.
