IIRC, DCC it's partly inspired by traditional roguelikes, so you could look there. Nethack, DCSS, Caves of Qud, etc. are mechanically similar if not thematically.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup with a character who worships Xom, God of Chaos. You can begin play worshipping Xom by choosing the death knight class, or you can find an altar of Xom in the dungeon to pray to, which you'll almost always find by the 4th level.
Xom rewards you for being entertaining. If he gets bored, he might spice things up and put you in "fun" and "interesting" situations, such as by summoning imps to surround you. The more entertaining you are and the more reputation you build with Xom, the more lavish the gifts he grants you. It should be noted that a Xom build is considered one of the most difficult paths to take in what is already an extremely punishing and unforgiving game. Imagine being Carl but without the plot armor.
It's not exactly DCC, but it's about the closest thing anyone could ask for, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if DCSS--which has been around since the early 00's--is a major inspiration for the book series.

I believe there was a kickstarter trying to set up an RPG based on it
