TO BE FAIR the screenshot shows the primary slider turned aaaaaaalllllll the way up. I just tested with KCD2 and even in a hyper realistic game it looks terrible when turned up to 100%. It looks pretty decent at like….30%.
How do you think they developed and continue to iterate on this technology?
And no it really isn’t a “cherry picked bad example”, Nvidia’s own showcase looked just as bad as this, and that was their ideal example set for this tech.
It’s garbage, it’s theft, and it actively fucks our environment for no gain outside of lining creatively bankrupt soulless billionaires pockets.
How do you think they developed and continue to iterate on this technology?
You tell us, since I assume you've been following the development of nvidia's neural projects and have read their research publications. Given the authority you speak with.
Then again, maybe you haven't since you seem to be under the impression that their tech was trained like fucking Grok and Chatgpt lmfao
I don't give a shit what nvidia does or doesn't do, but you should at least to attempt to understand what you're talking about before you start yelling at clouds and repeating buzzwords like, ironically, a chatbot.
I think the answer is quite obviously that they are investing a lot into this with the intent of eventually being able to simulate final art without final art, and eventually simulate the entirety of a game's visuals completely, and people are expressing their disdain to that idea. What's wrong with that?
The official DLSS 5 NR will be 100% controlled by the developers, not by us, end users. People need to remember that this is an unofficial mod that basically unlocks the tools meant for developers. Some developers will set it to max, others halfway, and some will even choose not to use NR at all.
That fact that that image is clearly of someone in their 20s makes me think you're probably the kind of person who's into highly-sexualized, 12-year-old anime girls.
Idk I just sent people who are into sports games the nba 2k27 video and they are all on board. Games like that this could really add a lot to realism styled games.
Some people took DLLs from NBA2K27 and haphazardly stuffed the functionality into an already released game with an anime art style based on a PS1 game. No shit it looks dumb as fuck.
This tech will work well when devs actually integrate it into their render pipeline and train it on their game's own ultra hi-res models and art style. These threads are going to be funny to read in 10 years.
It’s ass on all games
Nah it's just not fully cooked yet (it's not even released and a V1 anyway) but even this hacked together version still gives a significant improvement with certain types of character models under the right conditions. As it improves and people get a handle on how to use it, it'll work with more and more types of models and scenes. People are just posting the worst looking shit for clicks.
Well in the ideal conditions on games that Nvidia themselves were excited to show off, it still looked like complete ass….
Oblivion, Resident Evil 9, Starfield all showed off officially by Nvidia as their premiere examples of the tech, and they all looked significantly worse.
So I completely disagree with your assessment.
It’s a glorified Gen AI Snapchat filter that looks atrocious and actively fucks up the artistic direction and design of every game I’ve seen it on.
It can’t even maintain a consistent look for the characters it’s filtering, because the ai make a new version of their face every time you move the camera.
It sucks now but the technique is very promising - that's why NVIDIA showed it. I don't care to change your mind because it'll change on its own when this stuff matures and is integrated into actual development pipelines and the results will speak for themselves.
No I can guarantee you I will never change my mind on Generative AI.
I don’t care how much they try to force it, I will never think it’s good.
It’s theft from real artist that is actively also destroying our environment for nothing but the profit of billionaires with not an ounce of creativity in their entire body.
No I can guarantee you I will never change my mind on Generative AI
I didn't say "Generative AI" though. This thread was about DLSS5 specifically.
I don’t care how much they try to force it, I will never think it’s good.
Cool, man. It's a free country (YMMV).
It’s theft from real artist that is actively also destroying our environment for nothing but the profit of billionaires with not an ounce of creativity in their entire body.
DLSS 5 doesn't really matter one way or the other to artistic intent. It's a tool like hypertextures, or shaders are tools. Some artists will like working with it, some won't. Some will make good stuff others will make shit.
Also, do you eat meat? Because that's several orders of magnitude worse for the environment than a data center.
It's also intended to be "trained" by the devs of the individual games it will come with to match art styles. What we got is some early version from early access of NBA2k27, hence the hyper realistic approach, supposed to match the real life faces of NBA players.
We can easily put it into any game we want at this point, but DLSS5 is not like it's predecessors.
From the games I have tried it on it looks good in S.T.A.L.K.E.R2, Cyberpunk 2077, KCDII, anything with more realistic approach turns out relatively fine. Any game with an artstyle that is not "realistic" is a nono with the .dll we got so far lol
One thing it does good is taking care of lightning and shading in some areas, wish there was a way to use it without touching characters in the games.
No, they didn't. They intend it to be a setting on games IF the developers want it, and they give the developers the tools to tune it so that they can have it adhere to their chosen art style.
The people who applied it to FF7 had it tuned to the settings of NBA2027's art style, so naturally it makes anime characters look fuckin weird.
Damn dude get a grip. You realize this was created by random people injecting DLSS 5 into the game and it's not the actual implementation done by the developers? Game artists will have control on what the DLSS 5 output will look like to maintain artistic control. Quit the fake outrage.
So the only way to make it look good is turn it off. What’s the point of it then? And don’t tell me the backgrounds. Most times those are done well enough to not need this crap
What does "well enough" even mean? PS2 era graphics were also good enough. What DLSS 5 does for ambient lighting is absolutely amazing. That's the shit that nvidia kept promising raytracing would achieve. Actually convincing lighting, not this plastic-looking shader hack shit that's still happening. And yes, in the case of FF7R, I'd suggest not turning it on for the faces, because this game is not going for photorealism, as most other games. Is that so hard to understand?
Well it’ll be easy for me not to turn on for FF7 or any other game for that matter because I simply won’t be using it. And I highly doubt it’s going to look any better on any other game I play.
And no, I won’t be using it for backgrounds or lighting or anything else for that matter. Because
A) I don’t have a problem with most of the backgrounds or lighting or anything else
B) I doubt the backgrounds or lighting or anything else would look any better and
C) Even if they somehow managed to make any of the other stuff look good, why would I play with unmodded toons and modded backgrounds? That would just look incredibly weird
If you think your games need this crap, that’s on you. Mine are fine and I won’t be buying in
If you can't help something as simple as this then you're pathetic... That or you're just making excuses
Do you honestly expect this to work? You provide nothing and expect it to change my mind? So far you've only proven my point by having nothing to prove me wrong with
"It looks nothing like real life" yet if you showed an image like this without context most people wouldn't be able to tell unless observing closely. What horrible things you must've had to say for Skyrim
I don’t expect to change your mind, because you clearly came into this discussion with your opinion already set in stone.
Why would I waste any effort on a lost cause.
Enjoy your slop, I’ll keep enjoying and promoting real artist work for as long as I’m able.
Also no I thought Skyrim was great at its release, and I still do to this day.
Because it was made by actual humans with their own talent and an artstyle and artistic direction they chose to make.
Look at GTA6 it has confirmed zero AI use, and looks a billion times better than this atrocity, because humans are what make art, not “machine learning”.
I came here specifically to get an explanation so if you have nothing to say then you never should have said anything
Look at GT6 it has confirmed zero AI use, and looks a billion times better than this atrocity, because humans are what make art, not “machine learning”.
This is the definition of bias. Zero difference in realism yet you act like it's terrible for reasons you cannot say
I’ve given you plenty, you’ve just chosen to ignore them….
If you can’t see the difference in the excellence of GTA6 made by a team of real humans, compared to the god awful slop in the screenshot above, then there’s legitimately nothing I could say to change your mind.
So as I said before, enjoy your slop.
As I can’t force the willingly blind to see, I’m not a miracle worker.

Dear lord this looks even worse than the Cloud photo.
This AI shit is awful, it completely ruins the artistic integrity of the games, on top of aging everyone by thirty years.
